Rutgers punted 16 times tonight, surpassing the 1938 University of Chicago team for the second-most by a Michigan opponent in a single game.*

The University of Chicago abolished their football program in 1939.

Win with cruelty.

*Ohio State, with 21, is the record-holder thanks to the ludicrous 1950 Snow Bowl.

Dr: "I'm afraid your husband is very sick."

Woman: "How bad are we talking? Sort of bad? Very bad?"

Dr: "Rutgers bad."

Been a long time coming for these chumps. Ash, that team, and all their fans needed to be reminded of their place in the pecking order.

Next time they start talking about becoming the LSU of the Northeast, remind them of 78-0. They're not a contender and they never will be.

Respectfully disagree.  This will teach those smart ass Rutgers students claiming they would win this game and talking all sorts of trash.  Jim channeled his inner Conan to teach all those Jersey recruits who's the boss.  Those kids Ash brought will want to be recruited and coached by a professional.

Coach, what is best in life?

It sure was nice of Ash to bring in 200 recruits to see that "game".   Maybe next year he won't try to start a rival satellite camp the same day as us and bring in a rival coach (Meyer) to speak at it...

Good question. It isn't just a question of starters vs.2nd string. It is the play calling. If Michigan had passed a lot more, to Butt, Darboh, Chesson, Perry, and maybe McDoom, the score would have been a lot worse. I know over at 11W they are crabby. It was good that Speight was pulled early. Other JH would get even more crap for the win.

Ironically, if this game were in Ann Arbor the score might have been slightly lower.  On the road, our travel team is not the full roster - the guys buried on the bench don't make the trip.  So while you can play the second string, you can't completely clear your bench like at home.

Is that going to be a thing?  David Dawson playing on the DL?  I like the idea of getting him some reps there because next year is his last year of eligibility and if he's not going to be in the line up on the OL, he can help the team as a depth player at NT.  We lose a lot of DL after this season and DT is a tough spot for true frosh to contribute.  Having a 5th year senior 300+ dude in there for depth would be a big help.

Yes, he played everyone who made the trip.  But that wasn't our full roster.

There are about 110 players on the team.  Only 70 get to travel.  If the game were played in A2, a lot of those other 40 (minus the redshirts) would have gotten in.  For example, Alex Malzone would have probably gotten a series in the 4th quarter.  So at home, this might have actually been a slightly lower-scoring game than on the road.

These are the most lopsided victories since Schembechler arrived...

1971: 63-7 over Iowa

1971: 61-7 over Indiana

1975: 69-0 over Northwestern

1976: 70-14 over Navy

1981: 70-21 over Illinois

1986: 69-13 over Illinois

1988: 62-14 over Wisconsin

1992: 61-7 over Houston

1992: 63-13 over Minnesota

2009: 63-6 over Delaware State

2012: 63-13 over UMass

2016: 63-3 over Hawaii

The second and third stringers gave up the points in the majority of those games.  Tonight's game was just...insane.
