McGuffie's new outfit looks nice. Looks like McGuffie will fit in nicely. Best of luck to him. Still wish he would of stayed but oh well. Hopefully Rice uses that 4.3 speed well.

Because someone may get offended does necessitate removing it from vocabulary. We still frequently use words like redneck, thug, moron, etc. Every I know has used the saying 'throws like a girl' - the offense is directed towards the person the comment is made of.

I'm offended when people say Ohio sucks (the state, I'm a die hard UM fan) , but does that mean we they should stop?

I'm sure some are offended by the question 'Are you deaf?'; My mother is deaf, but I understand its a saying..

Some people are offended by using the word black - get over it. Do I require someone to call me a irish scottish welsh english german American?

Grow up and get over it. PC is gone like Bush.

Usually when something is described as 'gay', its not intended to be a compliment, so saying its derogatory is actually emphasizing the use.. or even doubly.

Supposing you see nothing wrong with homosexuality, then you have even less of a case. The whole concept of being gay is merely to be against the normal and have odd (as in nonstandard), controversial, and unconventional way of being.

If you do happen to see something wrong with it, the use of the work gay serves a double purpose - to use the adjective and to reassert the appropriately negative connotation of the word.

You never responded to my hurt feelings on the constant negative comments towards my being an Ohioan, living in Ohio, etc - because you dont see anything wrong with it.

Some people see nothing wrong with using the word gay as an adjective.

The college game was too fast for him last year. He had decent statistics, but it's not normal for a kid to get two or three concussions in one year. Something obviously wasn't clicking for him.

I don't think concussions have anything to do with one's size or speed. No one's head is fully safe from a hard hit. Once you suffer one concussion, your odds of suffering a second are greatly increased. Hard as it was, I don't think the OSU hit would have concussed him if it hadn't happened to him before.

I won't go so far as to say he should quit football, but it's probably a good thing he gets to take a year off.

No, it's not. The kid had three concussions last year.

If I said, "I bet Carlos Brown will get injured again this year," I'm guessing 98% of people on this board would nod their heads in agreement.

So because it's a concussion instead of an ankle sprain or a broken finger, it's suddenly off limits? Or is it off limits because it's about our beloved Sam McGuffie and not, I dunno, Zion Babb or Justin Boren?

I don't want to see McGuffie get more concussions, either, but it's not inappropriate in any way for me to think he will.

What is inappropriate is to say that McGuffie is somehow stupid or at fault for incurring said concusssions, which is exactly what Tater did.

Saying McGuffie is getting concussions because he is stupid is ridiculous, but saying that he may be at fault is not. A person can do things to avoid getting a concussion while running with the ball. Like many, I noticed how Sam would run really high at times, and he seemed to get smoked more often than any running back I've seen in recent years. Maybe they were all beyond his control, but maybe not. It's very possible, though, that some of those hits could have been avoided.

Of course you can. I never said all concussions are avoidable. I didn't even say that most are avoidable. But to say that all concussions are out of the players control is incorrect. Some players run in such a way that they never take big hits. Some aren't as good at this. I'm not calling him a bad person, and I never even asserted that I think this was the case for Sam, just that it COULD be. It is a possibility, and it isn't a dick thing to imply it so.

Maybe I read too much of a mocking tone into what he said. Did no one else interpret it as slightly mocking?

McGuffie had concussion issues. He switched off the Revolution helmet. Now that he's got the Revolution back, he will be fine. That and the short jersey should help.

I noticed that. Like in spring practice last year he wore the revolution helmet. Then in games he wore a vented one. I didnt understand it at all. REVOLUTION Helmets are made to prevent concussions better!

The Owl defense outscored the offense, 48-44, under a scoring system that awards the defense points for big plays, before a crowd that pushed the 1,000 mark, counting the 300 high school football players who were present for the coaching staff’s second annual Junior Day.

700 fans for the spring game? In the state of Texas? Ouch.

Meh, I'm in the Houston area, the spring games aren't advertised well, nor is Rice really a football school. Its a baseball school and it probably drew 5 times that amount to most baseball games. If it isn't high school friday, UT, or A&M, no one cares.
