Marrow To Stay At UK Comment Count

Brian

A couple of Kentucky outlets are reporting that Wildcats TE coach Vince Marrow is staying with UK; this one in particular was accurate about things being up in the air when others were reporting that he was a goner:

This is a much bigger deal for Kentucky than it was ever going to be for Michigan, as Marrow was connected to about half of their recruiting class—Michigan is going to do just fine on the recruiting trail under Harbaugh either way.

This might be kind of, umm I'm not sure how to say it without sounding ridiculous. But as an African American, it would've been nice to see us get Marrow. Hopefully we retain Manning and/or bring in Wheatley to the staff. And don't get me wrong, I love the staff so far. Just think getting an African American assistant could help with some kids.
I hope that didn't sound too ridiculous

Not ridiculous at all. I am white and I completely agree with you. I think that it is important that there is diversity in the coaching staff. First off, whether green, purple or orange, has to first off be a great coach and recruiter, but it is important for these young men to have coaches that they can go to that understand some of life issues they may run into that other coaches may not have the life experiences to truly understand.

A sport dominated by African-Americans should have diversity in its coaching staffs. This does NOT mean we go out and pick minorities just b/c they're minorities.

There is an advantage when your coaching staff can relate to recruits in a sport dominated by recruiting whether it is race (cultural factors etc) or not.

Your ignorance and whitewashing is showing if you don't understand that basic logic in the post.

Here lemme help you:

"This does NOT mean we go out and pick minorities just b/c they're minorities."

Did I ever say that people of certain races should be DQed?

Last time I checked hockey is majority white, and is coached by majority white coaching staffs.

In football, you have mostly white coaching staffs coaching mostly black teams...

What are you arguing again? Your argument is a false equivalence.

Still really thought Marrow could make our recruiting staff one of the best in the entire country. Dismissing it as not a big deal is not fair in my opinion. Yes, UK needed him to stay more than we needed him to come here. I think if he came though then we could really make some major moves in the state of Ohio...the same kind Urban is doing here (insert Cass Tech kid never pan out meme).

Double rat farts. Though, I don't think M will lose a step with recruiting. And, Marrow is rather unproven as a positional coach.

There was a comment in one of the board threads that Tony Gonzalez would be announced (not sure if serious) but he has never been a coach, which makes me more than a bit suspicious.

... only because it is disappointing.  I had some pipe dreams about him accepting the job and then immediately flipping that Damien Harris guy.

I do have this feeling we gonna be a-ok, though.  It also makes sense in light of the Anderson rumors.  I was beginning to wonder how we were going to hire all of these coaches.  It was going to be some very spectacular new math.  "We do have only nine coaches, it's just a matter of how you count them."

So then how the hell do you explain the Chris Clark Twitter conversation? He clearly knows Clark ain't coming to no Kentucky unless it's to play for Calipari. Estoy confundido, hombre.
