Looks Like Uniformz For Penn State Comment Count

Brian

As caught by an alert Joshua Henschke on twitter, the latest MDen catalog strongly implies that Michigan will wear alternate uniforms for the Penn State game:

I'm not surprised, I guess. I had just forgotten about the possibility of such a thing and was disappointed to remember we do this now.

I'm sure this will be sold as a throwback to some fictional time in the past when Michigan wore stripey numbers under coach Pterodactyl The Second and won the Big Ten thanks to their velociraptor riders, because Authenticity™.

UPDATE: actually looks like an MGoUser was first to wonder.

The last time Michigan wore stripey uniforms with pattern inlays was for the original Under the LIghts game against Notre Dame in 2011 and then once again at Michigan State later that season.

Michigan didn't win the Big Ten that year, but if I recall correctly, that game against the Fighting Irish had one hell of a finish . . . . .

Is there any way to FOIA UofM jersey sales revenue?  I want to see exactly what these things do to the bottom line so we can put the "Kids love them" thing to rest.

If Dave Brandon is all about "The Brand", why does he dilute it with crappy alternate uniforms? Branding is about consistency and presenting a unified image and message.

Michigan has one of the best uniforms in college football. That's why it's so sad to see these terrible replacements.

Dumb.

And we're still marketing UTL when a regular night game with our regular look would look epic enough.

But nobody should be surprised. We went a full season last year with no alternate jerseys and you know that had to kill Brandon. It was time to cash in on his patience.

Is this REALLY the best Adidas can do??

I'm done bitching now. All that really matters is that we win.....and win a lot.

I think the numbers look stupid (a little too prison like for my taste). I prefer they keep with the classic uni and leave it at that. If we have to put up with alternate uni's, this is far better than the first three attempts in my opinion. This will be far less bumble beeish than the MSU jerseys, much more readable than the South Carolina jerseys, and I still don't know WTF the first Under the Lights jersey was (this will at least look more traditional than those).
