What's your phone number? It's free information, so you shouldn't mind posting it here.
"This is really important to be here," Lewan said. "I'm here to give back and help out my teammate."
What's your phone number? It's free information, so you shouldn't mind posting it here.
If you'd like to come to southern Rhode Island and pick up a phone book, I'm sure you'll find it in there.
So I guess you understand my point.
But I don't think you understand mine. It's out there if you're willing to do the sleuthing is my point. Same as McFarlin's. Anyone who wanted it could have it.
You were in the Play School? Do they still call it that at dear old U.Va.?
Well Brendan, formerly of Washington state, and before that, Norfolk, and before that growing up in Detroit... with email of sonar.... I'm not going to post that... There are only 51 Brendan's in New Port, RI. Judging by your past history I can probably narrow down 7 from that list due to age constraints. You don't seem like the over 50 crowd. That leaves 44 Brendan's in New Port, 3 of which have held property in either Norfolk or Washington state.
And I found all of that within 3 minutes.
Like I said. The information is out there. I'm not even remotely uncomfortable that you've figured that out. firstname.lastname@example.org - there you go, I don't mind, it only takes three clicks to get to. You could even googleize that and find other forums I've joined under that name.
Other Chris: no, nobody actually in the A-school calls it that ;) although perhaps that's the term over in the College of Arts and Crafts.
"I'll just look up "MaizeAndBlueWahoo". I'm sure I'll find it."
@ arod: As evidenced above it's not that hard.
I'm hopeful in the idea that no one is supposed to call, and that it's more of a "scare" than anything. If that is the intent, I like it.
Wait ... I thought this was the board where everyone preaches about the sanctity of teenage boys' privacy.
Only if they can run fast, huh?
Aside from the fact that its just plain wrong (is he serisouly 14 years old?), calling and e-mailing someone in order to harass them can actually be a crime.
I love the cite Brian, but this was not a smart move on your part. Please take this thread down.
Great site but in the scheme of all things it is a sports blog. Doesn't need to turn into a thread like this, ban hammer and he's gone. He came here to troll and that should be the end of the story.
Brian is a smug little man because he has "outed" McFarlin. Well, congrats little hippie man.
rest assured I'm not McFarlin, but I am a former haloscan person...
that you showed up right after McFarlin was banned and your first post was about how McFarlin was banned...
FWIW, his first post was yesterday morning. So, unless you think McFarlin was smart enough to anticipate his banning...
i'm still on edge about this whole Red Wings game
In the past, particularly with the WLA guys around, posters like McFarlin were addressed immediately. The usual outcome was these type posters were either brought in line, or they would eventually go overboard and post something worthy of being banned.
But what was so particularly offensive by McFarlin (beyond all of the others that got banned) that he warranted not only banning, but this additional treatment? If it was a "body of work" issue, than that just suggests that he should have been addressed sooner.
There are a number of other posters, several of whom have been specifically mentioned on the board topics, that people have been complained about. Although some may be quite irritating, and that perhaps something should be done to address them, I do hope that they are not destined for this treatment.
The OP and this thread is quite troublesome to me. Perhaps I do not understand; what information on "McFarlin" was available (other than given to Brian) that someone could track down his e-mail and get the phone number of the right McFarlin? Based on the information available to me, I could not have (yeah, I know, that is not saying much). What do I google, McFarlin (and that assumes his last name is McFarlin) and what?
I sympathize with Brian in his attempt to retain the integrity of the comments section (and appreciate that this blog is Brian's livelihood - no small matter), but I think the posting of McFarlin's phone number (and email address, IMO) crossed the line.
We agree on something!
I also agree, which makes it even more frightening.
But most seriously, and troublesome, is why was McFarlin's phone number posted?
In it own right, it has no informational content. What purpose, other than to provide McFarlin's MGoBlog adversaries with it, and thus use it? And this is implied in at least one of the comments above. This in the least is potentially is enabling harassment.
of your posts, but I never came out and said so.
I guess I thought if I did, I would feel, well... unclean.
McF is probably reveling in all the attention. It is not the phone number that is going to give McF problems, it is people being able to put a face to the little smart ass.
McF is not made of glass he will probably survive this intact and hopefully a little wiser.
Brian's lesson will serve the little whippersnapper well
for the most part they don't think through the consequences of their actions
For the most part, there are no consequences for the troll as long as they remain anonymous. Which is why it is so popular on the internet, creating havoc without having to face the consequences for doing the same in real life. Now Brian gave trolling his board consequences (which is exactly what he said in his original post).
Everyone that read him knows that. He was a guy that was an enthusiastic M fan and made dumb comments in support of them. Huge difference. I agree that a guy that is not a fan and comes here strictly to insult and stir up trouble deserves what he gets--McFarlin wasn't that.
You must have missed the deleted threads where McFarlin got sick of everyone calling his posts dumb and started trolling. Unless you think an enthusiastic M fan would start threads proclaiming OSU's dominance and the weakness of the Big Ten. In other words, threads strictly to insult and stir up trouble.
Me thinks you are splitting hairs. However you want to define McF, he got his comeuppance and I like it!
You can't brush out sand.
he he he that's funny, I am much to 'umble to post it myself
Brian, I fully agree with the banning. Harassing the guy at home, not so much. The guy's annoying but I think actually giving out his personal info is crossing the line.
Why wasn't Brian's title for this thread "Hey, everybody. I'm a whiny little bitch"?
I don't think anyone is saying Brian violated anything so much as we don't agree with his decision. Just because he has the right to do something doesn't make it right.
Edit: I just noticed you were specifically calling out people over "privacy". I'll let me original comment stand as a general comment on the overall situation.
That's why I said I wasn't agreeing or disagreeing. I was just pointing out something that I guarantee 99% of the people who have commented on this didn't know. If people did know they would have commented on it previously and I have never once seen someone say anything about it. That tells me they didn't know and are reacting on a feeling rather than on what's right or wrong per the rules of this forum.
General response: It was a "body of work" issue, and should have been executed earlier. That was my fault.
As far as the information: I'm not asking anyone to harass him -- in fact, please don't -- nor am I providing information he hasn't already provided on the internet. I'm just giving it a different context. If McFarlin is uncomfortable with having his information posted in this space while he doesn't have a problem with it in another space, that says something about how he's acted in this context.
As far as the privacy of kids, no football recruit has griefed this site. I have zero sympathy for his actions, which were pissing off other people for his own enjoyment. I've never been against actions having consequences, just against people way overreacting to kids picking a school they don't like.
That said: eh... yeah, bad idea. I'll edit out.
It was rather unlike you.
Or rather, unlike what I believe you to be like.
Yeah, but his general response comment is vintage Brian.
I laughed. Hard. And it's good motivation going forward to not suck, isn't it?
I see no problem with it. It seemed a bit harsh at first, but fuck 'em. People shouldn't be complete fucking assholes just for the sake of being one.
This. 100% this.
Can't Mcfarlin just make a new account? The all powerful "ban hammer" is nothing more than a 5 minute fix.
IP ban, and if absolutely necessary you can ban an IP range.
Register on a different computer! I did it ;) but you'll never guess who my past character was.. and I joined 1 day before Mcfarlin.. people thought I was friends with that loser just cause I defended 1 of his posts early on.
