LeVert Out For Season With Foot Injury Comment Count

Caris LeVert came up limping following the final play against Northwestern last night and was seen on crutches after the game. Today, Michigan confirmed our worst fears—LeVert will miss the remainder of the season with a foot injury:

Junior guard Caris LeVert of the University of Michigan men's basketball team injured his left foot during Saturday's (Jan. 17) game vs. Northwestern and is scheduled to have surgery this week. He will miss the remainder of the season following a 12-week recovery and rehabilitation period. LeVert had surgery on the same foot this past May.

"Caris has been working so hard this season, and for this to happen is very unfortunate," said U-M head coach John Beilein. "If we know anything about Caris, he will do everything it takes to not only get better but to help his teammates during this time. He is a tremendous young man who I will really miss coaching the remainder of the season. However, I am optimistic he will have a complete recovery."

"While this is obviously not what I wanted, I know this team will come together and be stronger because of it," said LeVert. "Now more than ever, it is important for all of us support this team. For me, I am familiar with the recovery process and what work lies ahead for me. I am very confident that I will return 100 percent and have already begun work to ensure that happens."

This is obviously a huge blow to Michigan's hopes of making even the NIT. LeVert leads the team in minutes, points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks; with Derrick Walton limited by injury, LeVert has often been the only Wolverine capable of creating his own shot. Freshmen Aubrey Dawkins and Kameron Chatman should see a major uptick in minutes with LeVert sidelined.

If this is the end of LeVert's Michigan career—despite a disappointing season, he's still been projected in the first round of the NBA draft by many experts—it's certainly been a good one. Here's hoping for a speedy and full recovery.

Silver linings- Caris can't leave for the NBA now, he will have to come back. And we won't be great so everyone else will have to come back too. With experience and some fresh blood, we might do well.

Has he really looked like an NBA player this year? He's very good but doesn't seem elite-great. Maybe the rest of the team drags down his potential (teams can collapse or focus on him more), and of course the NBA only drafts on Potential, but he seems like a Darius Morris-level player at best rught now. I dont want to sound selfish in saying he should come back another year but thats what Im thinking.

Plus HARBAUGH. That seems relevant somehow to Caris's NBA future.

So while this injury is brutal....it will allow for us to develop Aubrey...Kameron and MAAR a little faster. Irvin has a chance to be the man now as well as Walton. Beilein really needs to land some elite recruits in the next few cycles if we are to get back into the national picture. We've taken some fliers recently and it's hurting us pretty bad. Caris injuring his same foot again is not good at all for his draft status. I personally think he could oobviously still go...but benefit from a Senior year to become bigger and more efficient. I don't see his game translating to the NBA level yet...much like GR3 and Stauskas. If he comes back healthy....Michigan could be much better next year. We will still be short on B1gs though.

I will still be in the bleachers for every game cheering for my guys and watching them develop... It might get depressing but I'll never abandon my team (unlike other sports here) and I hope other Ragers feel the same. Let's go Rahk!

Beilein and UM have been great last few years, but looks like times to build up the young guys and take a back seat this year.

Can't complain too bad because of what they've given us lately.. and once these young guys get more experience, they'll be right back there. No doubt, with Beilein at the helm.

Get well, Caris.

disappointing. Still lots to accomplish this season in terms of getting the young guys experience. Walton needs to take ownership of this team now. Beilein's system covers up a lot of athletic deficiencies but it still requires a leader.

This title turned my stomach when I read it. I know this team isn't a contender, but this would be like losing Stauskas last year, or Burke the year before. I hate it more for the kids than from a fans perspective.

Also, people -

Stop saying the season is over.  It's not.  It likely won't be a very good season, but there are still 14 other kids on the team, plus our coaches, for whom the season is not over and who need our support, now more than ever.  Remember, the best thing about freshmen is that they become sophomores.

You never fully heal from ankle issues like this. Hopefully he can control it and work hard to limit further issues.

I feel terrible for Caris.  Great, hardworking kid who deserves the best.  Hoping for a speedy recovery.   Part of the joy of watching Beilein is watching him squeeze the talent out of every kid we have.  The pressure's off. We were a bubble team at our best.  This gives our young guys a lot of playing time and allows Beilein to throw out every trick in the book.  Let's make this a fun ride.
