With all the de-commits and negativity surrounding Coach Rodriguez and the program, I think it's worth it to take a minute to savor the Robinson commit. This is, of course, exactly the kind of player we all hoped would start coming to Michigan when Coach Rodriguez was hired...and it's nice to know that Florida was really after him. Hopefully, with the help of Robinson and others, we will start to see fast little guys break into huge swaths of open field, like WVU's offense did at its best...This is not a kid who would have committed under Coach Carr.
Let us now praise Denard Robinson
What positon is he going to play? I know hes quarterback but he won't beat out Tate. Maybe a Tate/denard offense with direct snaps?
I know hes quarterback but he won't beat out Tate.
We do not, actually, know this.
We don't know that either of those guys will beat Threet.
Or Sheridan, for that matter.
Tate and "The DR." (you heard it here first), will push each other. I see them working in The DR and Tate right away.
I still think Threet has to be the odds-on favorite to start in '09. It's just so hard for freshman to catch up, even w/ Forcier enrolling early. I even think there's a pretty good chance we'll see Sheridan take the field at some point, though I sure hope I'm wrong.
"I even think there's a pretty good chance we'll see Sheridan take the field at some point, though I sure hope I'm wrong."
You couldnt be more...
Definitely agree that Threet will likely start. I think he'll be a lot better this year! Then again, 60% of the time, I'm overly optimistic every time.
Exactly how do you know he wont beat out Tate? Tate has months of practice on his side, but we still will know nothing for a while.
Sam Webb and Tom Beaver both seemed convinced that Robinson will see playing time at QB this upcoming season when they talked about him this past Sunday on WTKA. They said that Rich Rod & Calvin Magee love the kid and think that he's the perfect compliment to Forcier & Threet.
I added DR on facebook. He says i'm his #1 fan.
Proof? I believe it is I who is his numero uno fan.
I added him at 3:13 PM ET and he accepted within 23 minutes. What about you????
Uh, please show me any evidence whatsoever that Beaver & Newsome decommitted because they were afraid of competition?
but they left Michigan, so they must be PUSSIES! amirite?!!
Beaver is definitely a pussy.
your problem is that you're putting the beaver on a pedestal
Evidence: He comitted to Tulsa which means he must have a low self-esteem and he said this in a recent article "I decommitted from Michigan because I am afraid of Tate Forcier and I knew I couldn't compete with him."
Please remember this is a joke
Beaver went to Tulsa where in their best year won't even sniff the MNC (have fun at Graceland) and Newsome practically walks into a starting roll after PSU's backup bailed.
Seems obvious IMO.
Justin Feagin said the same exact thing. It makes him a great Wolverine, but it wasn't enough to, you know, get RR to call a PASSING play when he was under center.
Not to say DR is Feagin. In his film, he's tossing the ball to deep, wide-open receivers. In fact, he's doing that even when there's a huge running lane for him, something not on Feagin's film.
So that's a great big I dunno if he's the ANSWER at QB next year or beyond. What I do know is that Michigan just doubled its chances for AN answer at QB next year, and in the process, got a guy who could slip easily into a role where we need depth. AND he came with a guy who provides depth at that same position. DR (and his sidekick, Witty) is a great pickup who helps us increase the odds of having solid play at two positions of great need.
I expect Threet to start, too. One game. He will stay in until he misses a couple of wide open recievers and stalls the offense. I think Forcier starts the second half and Threet becomes the third string QB then and there.
I can't wait to see this player on the field. Michigan finally has two quality players to run this offensive machine. Just think if Michigan didn't get this player and Tate got hurt. I truely believe it would set Michigan's Football Program back another year. Getting Denard Robinson was huge in my opinion. Atleast with Denard Robinson ready to go or Tate Forcier ready to go, Michigan Football can move ahead. Yes, I believe that Threet will start but I feel Coach Rod has to make every effort to get these two young players on the field and get them some experience as early as possible. Nice Job Coach Rod recruiting these great players-Denard Robinson welcome to our house-ah yes it's the big one. Go Blue!
To think that a true freshman (even one with spring practice under his belt) is going to be ready to replace a QB with an entire season of experience is beyond optimistic, its foolish.
And what really needs to progress on this team is the OL. Having a reliable running game to take the pressure off of the QB will improve the QB's productivity substantially (be it Threet, Tate, or Robinson).
I'd argue Threet not overthrowing every wide open receiver (granted he is throwing to the wide open receiver) would improve the QB's productivity substantially, and that his (or Sheridan's) inability to complete a pass is what led to teams loading up the box and stuffing the run game.
Threet made good decisions from the ND game on. Yes he did over throw receivers, but the guy had no running game to support him and the receivers were rather green as well, so part of it may have had something to do with WRs being out of position.
And I don't recall defenses having to stuff the box to shut down our running game. It seemed that any decent DL just blew things up on their own.
is even more damning, IMO. If he knows exactly what to do and can't execute, that's a big problem. His physical skills may simply not be there. We won't know for a while, though.
