I'd love to see us land this guy.
this week in unintentionally grim-sounding recruiting headlines
Five-star defensive end Keisean Lucier-South has a top 11 list that includes Michigan. It's 11 right now, but I believe Michigan would be on his list if it was just a top 3. Either way, Lucier-South has a public affinity for the Wolverines and his recruitment involving the maize and blue has been and still is trending in a positive direction.
As you'd expect though, a talent like Lucier-South has many suitors. His recruitment is one that will be contested until he finally makes his decision.
"Man, my recruitment is still insane," he said with a laugh. "I'm still talking to coaches everyday, I get letters everyday. Michigan, USC, Oklahoma, Florida, UCLA, Oregon, and all of the schools in my top 11 are all still very involved. It is crazy."
Lucier-South has backed off of calling UCLA his leader and now says that all of his top schools are pretty much even. He still isn't shy about his love for Michigan though, consistently calling them one of his favorites.
"I like Michigan a lot right now," he said. "The coaches direct message me everyday. I hear from Mattison, Hoke, and Ferrigno regularly. Hoke and Mattison don't DM me, but Ferrigno does. The commits are trying to get me there as well. Alex Malzone, Darrin Kirkland, and Chris Clark are all coming after me. They say like, 'Michigan is a great place and we can be really special.' I believe them too. Michigan is doing a great job in my recruitment."
The coaches and the commits aren't the only things attracting Lucier-South to Ann Arbor. For a California kid, he has a lot of love for the Wovlerines.
"I just love the history and the tradition," he explained. "I've been watching Michigan since I was little so that's why I like them so much. I honestly don't really know why I started watching them. My dad is a Michigan fan so I just always watched the games with him."
In his own words, Lucier-South says that Michigan is doing a great job recruiting him, but it won't be known if it's good enough for quite a while. Lucier-South plans to commit on National Signing Day as of right now. With so much time left in his recruitment, he has just two of his alotted five official visits scheduled, one of them being to Ann Arbor on October 11 against Penn State. He also has arranged plans to visit South Bend to watch Notre Dame against Stanford the week before that.
Lucier-South will be at The Opening in Oregon which begins this weekend and once that's over, he'll spend the rest of his summer prepping for his senior season.
I'd love to see us land this guy.
Where u put a probability on how likely it is we land this guy. Great write up though. Thanks Brandon.
mention that he thinks Michigan would be in the top three.
Hoke and Mattison don't DM me, but Ferrigno does.
Maybe Hoke and Mattison should start doing that?
I just can't wrap my head around his name, my brain always insists its Keynesian Lucifer-South.
We've been needing a real elite end for a while now. He looks like just he'd fit the role quite nicely.
By the name of Taco.
Taco is a boss.
this program to win games and best out rivals, everything else is secondary.
I resemble that remark.
Short and pointless.
Now that you say that, that's not a bad idea. I, too, want my favorite team to win. This does not go without saying, or anything,
I like this guy Brandon. Thanks for the info, keep up the good work. #nononsense
So did anyone else see the photo of KLS, catch the word "officially" in the title and think for a second that maybe he had committed to Michigan? No such luck, but it's good to hear things seem to be trending well.
KLS and Taco on both ends of the line would be devastating to opposing QBs! I think if this season turns out well he will join us!
Has he gotten bigger, because in the picture he looks bigger than before? He would be an awesome get and hopefully he chooses Michigan in the end.
No it's just the way he is leaning.... /s
What, with OSU's haul today.
I too officially love Michigan.
I think the official visit will seal the deal with this guy. If he likes Michigan as much as he does without having seen the campus yet, that bodes well for us.
is how different the relationship is between fans and their respective "favorite" school, team, etc. I do mean interesting too, I'm not judging here.
I have a friend who literally changes his favorite team every year or two in just about every sport. For me that seems crazy because I have loved the same teams since the time I was old enough to watch sports.
Through good and bad I have always loved: Michigan, the Blue Jays, Montreal Canadiens, Manchester United, Toronto Raptors (since they've been around) and Patriots. There have been some successful years in there but by and large I suffer through disappointment on a regular basis yet still cheer for my teams.
When I found this blog it didn't take long to forget that most people aren't so invested in their sports fandom. By visiting here you would think everyone lives and dies with their respective favorite teams and we forget that in many cases that just isn't true.
For me it wouldn't matter how poorly my team was playing, if I had an opportunity to play for that team I wouldn't pass it up for anything and I believe many posters here would be in the same boat. We forget though, that many fans just aren't as fanatical as we are.
It's for this reason that when I hear various recruits say UM has always been their favorite team I've stopped believing that means anything. I've stopped trying to read into what it is they say because everyone is so different where being a fan is concerned.
Again, I'm not judging KLS or DH or anyone else, I just don't put much stock into the fact that a person cheered for a certain school growing up. They could be the type of fan my friend is, the type I am or anywhere in between and you just never know how fanatical they really are.
This is in no way intended to be negative toward anyone, it's just an observation on my part.
He takes his official and loves it. He all but commits, but we all go apeshit and consider him blue and take the actual commitment as a formality. Then on signing day, he removes our respective soul dongs with one fell swoop when he commits to some shady sec "institution" where he languishes at 2nd or 3rd on the depth chart. P.s., some have called me a pessimist...
Worse than a pessimist- you're a dickimist!
If KLS does not choose M in the end it'll be to stay in the Pac12, specifically an LA school. That's what Brandon meant by "Top 3".
Your vision of KLS ultimate destination and his lack of success there may have been meant as humor, but it badly missed the mark. This young man will be a fantastic player wherever he ends up, and I personally just didn't like the implication that he'll "follow the money" a la Treadwell, etc
