Shane Morris had a solid debut as a starting quarterback.

He also led Michigan in rushing. By 29 yards. Over Devin Funchess.

The defense, meanwhile, couldn't put together a real stop until the second half. KSU receiver Tyler Lockett's three first-half touchdown receptions were more than enough to defeat the Wolverines on their own, as the offense fared no better, failing to reach 300 yards of total offense for the 11th time under Al Borges.

The 2013 season is mercifully over. Michigan finishes at 7-6, blown out by a mediocre Big 12 team. It's 1:30 in the morning. Goodnight, and here's to a better tomorrow.

Look at all the youth on the roster. Then ask yourself this - how much of it got better during the year? Kalis? James Ross? Chesson? Dymonte?

Do we have a single playmker on defense?

Why are 4 and 5 star offensive linemen incapable of beating out walk-ons?

Also, let's calm down on Shane Morris. He looked good by true freshman standards, no more, and it was only one game. He also had an entire month to prepare for it.

I'm starting to like the "let's pay a truckload of money to a generic Harbaugh" idea right now....

I'm as upset as the next person about the team being pretty poor this year but reading through all the rather pathetic whining going on is just as frustrating, if not more.  You'd think it was 2008 all over again.

Crap. The D did not look good but Borges is one-dimensional as all hell. Does he not realize that after you run a couple of reverses good or rather even competent teams will adjust? Blargh.

I'm blown away at the devotion to this guy. As an ND fan (and who saw him get UNTOLD exposure on the sideline on our game earlier), we know the shortcomings of this dude and can't fathom why he is held is such high esteem.

I've seen it mentioned in other threads and I think it's true, the complete disaster of the offense this year took most people's attention away from the defense.  The defense at best has been average.  I was expecting the offense to struggle with Morris but with a month for the coaches to prep I was hoping the defense would come out pretty strong.  Instead the defense was swiss cheese.  KSU had four possessions in the first half.  One was at the end of the half where they just killed the clock.  The other 3 possessions all went for TD's.

I don't see how people can say these aren't good coaches. They all have track records. They didn't just suddenly forget how to coach. Mattison can run the Baltimore Ravens defense but suddenly has forgotten how to "prepare" a college defense?  They're more than capable of running a big ten program. Think bigger than one season or a few games.

The thing that's strange about watching them now, is almost every player we're relying on is young. Interior line, backs, tight ends. Even the defense. We usually have some superstars and a lot of veterans on defense and these guys are not established yet. When this group are juniors and seniors they'll be really good.

Let me be Mr Simple and Mr Clear.  It is apparent from 200+ bloggers on the state of affairs that it is crystal clear what UM's problem is and how to resolve it.

We have very well paid and extremely incompetent coaching!

There is no improvement or talent development during the season or from season to season.   We never execute and that is always what we need to improve on.  We do not learn from our mistakes or from watching films of other teams.  Our defense has joined our offense as part of the problem.  Incompetence is not limited; it is now obvious and prevasive in all aspects.

Now being Mr Simple, I like to clearly detail the problem so that the solution becomes obvious.   We hired coaches who were incompetent before we paid them these very competitive salaries and paying them a lot of money did not make them 1 iota better.  What manager decides to surround himself with incompetent people?  Competent or incompetent?

Conclusion: Fire the Board of Regents, UM President, AD as they have very poor judgement and have wound up needing to fire their hires twice in a row.    Nobody should put UM fans through this much rebuilding which never happens.   I have grown old waiting and am now apathetic - aren't you?

If they can't get the team ready for this lower tier bowl. Next season will be more of the same. Losing to MSU, OSU and Nebraska.

We as fans don't have much invested in the day to day preparation, but watching the final result is devistating. 7-6 record reminds me of teams like San Diego St, Ball State, but not Michigan.

You may believe this record is just a phenomenom, but it's getting worse and worse in the last three years. Michigan's football team embarrassed themselves on Dec 28,2013. NO PRIDE AT ALL!

I have heard for the last several years and even when RR was at UM that we have had good recruiting classes every year - far better than let's say Michigan State who we know well.

Michigan State started out this year not being able to score a touchdown and got better with each game and now they are playing Stanford in the Rose Bowl.  UM lost to Kansas State in the Buffalo Wild Wings bowl.  Who is Kansas State?  Where did they come from?

Let's take a look at our young stars development.   How did we do with the pure raw talent of Denard Robinson?  Did we figure out how to develop and use him so he could help UM win games and get a first round ticket to the NFL?  No!  He finally got a job with the worst NFL team in football - the Jacksonville Jaguars.  I felt badly for Denard.  He was a wonderful talent with great charisma and he came to Michigan to get his promise sucked out of him by coaches who had no clue how to develop and use raw talent.

So there is the answer to the question.   You say things will get better.  You better pray for a miracle because we have been given the talent and look what we have done with it.
