... has de-committed. Unclear if he is going to still consider Michigan. Sigh.
needs moar usage
I talked to him when he said he wanted to take other visits, and figured this was going to happen. The way he was talking, it just sounded like he was interested elsewhere. I'm not sure what's going to happen.

It appears that he's strongly considering Purdue. Looks like ol' Tiller has some snake oil of his own to use before he retires.... You can't take it with you, might as well use it.
I once witnessed Crable choke a girl at Bell's....
wow. our LB core is weak and he could come in and get early PT.
i only respect other superfans
Not shocked about this one, Alabama is interested in him.
"I'm Leslie E. Miles and I approve of this message."
He says that Purdue is the team to beat right now, which is awkward. I know he has ties there, but I don't understand it if he ends up there.

Hey Tom,
I've believed for a while now that our recruiting would suffer to some extent from the horrific season that we had and all of the negativity surrounding the entire program right now. With that being said, I am a bit shocked that a recruit would be looking to choose Purdue over UM, especially a LB recruit who could come in here and immediately compete for a starting job. It would be one thing if Alabama were the team that he's looking at, but, Purdue is pretty much in the same situation as we are. If I remember correctly, I thought that Brian had some concerns about Scott Schafer's ability to recruit before. I'm thinking that is something to be concerned about.
"I'm Leslie E. Miles and I approve of this message."
Um, Barnes wasn't going to compete for a starting job right away.
Anyway, maybe this will make the staff focus more on Dan Mason (still hoping against hope). That would be a plus.
His Dad played football at Purdue, and he lives in Indiana.....
I'm not sure what your saying here, or the correlation between this and Schafer? Can you explain what you mean. We have a top 10 recruiting class, and we (hopefully), most likely will add a 5 star to that in Will Campbell. I'm not sure how much suffering we've had.

I have information from a reliable source close to Barnes that says he's done considering M. No matter what.
This sucks.
This really doesn't bother me that much to be honest.

It's less about Barnes and more about the entire class.. Newsome, McNeal, Barnes, Campbell (Temporarily), Fera, as well as others.. it's just not a great trend.
Yea, believe me I think that's annoying. But, the goal right now needs to be recruiting kids that 100% want to be at Michigan, and 100% will buy in early. It's too hard for a coach to turn things around with recruits that aren't sure if that's where they want to be. Nobody has really mentioned that last year's class might still have been learning about Rich Rod during the season. They weren't all recruited by him from the get go. The kids that I have talked to that want to be there 100% all say, they can't wait to get there and turn it around. They are excited to play for RR, and want to make plays to bring Michigan back.
So, with McNeal, Newsome, and Fera, I know that they were recruited a little differently. More so out of urgency, rather than relationship building, on both sides. They committed, and shouldn't have. I talked to all of them after they committed, and I knew it wasn't going to last. I don't think this says anything about the coaches, just our situation and those kids.
Maybe I'm just sick of all of this, and wish Rich Rod would talk to all of them and tell them if they don't want to be here then leave now. Sorry, this might not make any sense, but I'm annoyed. (not with you, the situation)

That's kind of what I was getting at, too. I don't remember this happening as frequently to Michigan as it seems to now. I could be wrong about that. Maybe it only seems like it.
"I'm Leslie E. Miles and I approve of this message."
These recent ones are annoying, but I understand the earlier ones.
Let me just put it this way. Put yourself in RR's shoes. You inherit the team you do, and you know that you need playmakers and big names NOW. So, you go out under pressure, and maybe say or do some things you wouldn't normally say, because you have less time. You have a sense of urgency to get cetain kids signed, so you put that sense of urgency on them. Sometimes that will work, but in the end they are going to realize they made a decision too soon.
So my point is, it's more of our situation, than our coaches. After this year, I doubt we will see this as much, and it will go back to normal amounts.

when we start losing our southern recruits, then I'll get worried...this one right here, man we'll be alright.
-Newsome isn't that much different from Beaver
-McNeal...I mean we're getting sick WR recruits regardless
-Barnes...and
-Campbell...now THAT would be a huge blow and cause for some concern, but we don't know what's good with that situation just yet.
De-commits...we're going after a different breed of guys under RR. Get used to the de-commits, but also get used to faster play on the field and UNPARALLELED PAHOKEE TENACITY...and Cass Tech...technicality.
Here's a quote from Barnes himself on why he decommitted. It looks to be from a Scout or Rivals article. I got it from a post on the recruiting section of www.umgoblue.com/aspplay/.
“I think it was kind of a relationship thing,” he said. “I had a great relationship with my recruiting coach, Coach Tall, but I really didn’t have that strong of a relationship with my position coach… which is a really important thing for me. It’s nothing against Coach Hopson. It just that it was just getting too close to signing day to feel like I didn’t know where I stand in the whole situation

what is going on??
I removed my avatar so that I'm not confused with this psychopath. Just one question for this stalker. You're life is so empty and pathetic that you felt the need to register an account here simply to stalk me?
"I'm Leslie E. Miles and I approve of this message."
It was funny the first time I saw it, but after the 20th time I got kinda sad and slightly terrified.
No question, Jim.
I've said from the beginning that I'm not a big fan of Barnes. I think he's a John Thompson clone. I'd prefer to put more athletic guys in the middle and turn safeties into outside linebackers. Perhaps this is a blessing in disguise, since I don't think there's a single one of us who wants John Thompson to get another 4 years of eligibility.
Yea I agree, that's why I said it doesn't really bother me. I don't really care either way with him.

lol then why the hell were you giving me shit on my postings if you think Barnes isnt good?
Because it's one think to think he's not an elite player, and another to call a kid who did something you don't like (who you don't know and have never met) a "bum" or a "girl". One is being critical, the other is being an asshole.
I think most people think you're a douchebag more for calling him a bum than for saying that he sucks.
haha whatever. Same thing. stop gettin so picky for words.
So to you "bum" "girl" and "not very good at football" are synonymous?
dude.. do you take everything literally? a girl cause he switched his mind, a bum cause i dont think hes that good.
Barnes has the right to change his mind. Calling him a girl for that makes you an asshat. Also, you say that you trust and like RRod, but then shouldn't you trust his talent evaluation skills? If the coaching staff offered the guy a scholarship, then they think he's good.
John Thompson did score against Wisconsin...never mind he still sucks.
I am starting to see double in this thread.
we have guys like Bell and MIKE JONES who will probably grow into LBs. One less three star probably isn't going to make or break us.
I want guys like Mouton - not thompson.
Fast, good cover skills (I know Mouton needs some improvement there, but it should come) and bid hitters once they can play downhill.
Paging Jelani Jenkins...please follow the homing beacon to Ann Arbor.
Also - all these guys obviously didn't feel it. That's fine. Chemistry will be big this offseason and next season. I actually love Gibbons and was questionable on Fera (this is for no logical reason). Would much rather have Tate and the Beav than Newsome. McNeal - Ego we don't need.
Really hope we get Will back in the fold! - I'm hoping he was on some super double secret spy missions and has really been silently committed the whole time...now that would be awesome.
'Murica & Footbaw: That's what Michigan Does
Bring your services to A2. I would gladly lose Barnes for him any day of the week.
Look's like Purdue's new coach isn't a gentleman like Tiller>
I've been around awhile and I think this stuff happens every year. Indeed, if memory serves, the alleged reason that Carr allegedly hated Miles was that he stole some defensive back from him. Kids change their mind -- for hundreds of reasons. As Tom notes, even without Barnes, the class is rated 7th and is likely to get better, rather than worse.
Decommitments do happen, but there has been a rare number of them this year. Fera, McNeal, Newsome, now Barnes... We've replaced Fera with Gibbons and Newsome with Forcier, so the decommits haven't affected us a great deal.
But there's no getting around it - this class has been in flux more than other recent classes.
to the 18-20 range quite a bit faster than we usually do? It seems like most years we get to 10-12 right about August or start of the season and then start to fill in the last 10-12 here and there between then and signing day. This year it seems like we got into the 15-20 range really fast (with all the teammates we were recruiting) and as a result have had to hold our verbals longer than normal.
Yeah...for a while there, it seemed like we'd get to 25 by Halloween.
Is this the first recorded ban in mgoblog history? Maybe I missed it or this is just the first announced, but awesome. I feel like we are all part of history.
Damn
