Jim Harbaugh GIF Tournament 2016: Final Four Comment Count

Ace

I expected the grin-off to be close. In one corner, there was Harbaugh at the spring game, soaking in the emotions from his return home and smiling at the prospect of a bright future. In the other corner, there was Harbaugh after the bowl victory, unable to contain his joy after his team fulfilled the potential he saw in the spring.

I did not anticipate it would be this close.

I refreshed the poll more times than I care to admit over the last few days; I don't believe either GIF had more than a 20-vote lead at any point. A mini-surge in the final minutes before this afternoon's cutoff produced a winner. The full Elite Eight results:

THE GOOD TIMES

#1 Harbaugh As Grinch: 2,096 (50%)
#2 Spring Game Grin: 2, 110 (50%)

THE BAD TIMES

#1 Rage Stripping: 1,696 (47%)
#3 WELL OKAY: 1,892 (53%)

HARBAUGH IN ACTION

#1 Dr. Harbaugh: 1,055 (30%)
#2 Punt Demo: 2,434 (70%)

MISCELLANEOUS HARBAUGH

#1 Good Shit, Jedd: 1,113 (33%)
#3 Pffffffhahahaha: 2,245 (67%)

Just like that, not a single one-seed remains.

THE FINAL FOUR

(2) Spring Game Grin vs. (3) Pffffffhahahaha

This has to be the odds-on favorite after emerging victorious from the grin-off.

Then again, this is the first time the Spring Game Grin has come up against a GIF of Harbaugh sideline antics.

(3) WELL OKAY vs. (2) Punt Demo

If there's going to be a Cinderella run of sorts, it's going to come from this GIF, which knocked off Bad Times region favorites Rage Stripping and Slow-Motion Meltdown to earn its spot here. WELL OKAY has had, without a doubt, the toughest path to the Final Four.

That path isn't exactly getting any easier. Punt Demo demolished Dr. Harbaugh by a margin that caught me completely off guard. Either GIF in this matchup would be a worthy champion.

Ugh voters are the worst.

The championship round should be Grinch Smile vs. Good Shit Jedd.

Oh well...this is why democracy will never work...I need to be GIF dictator.

I can't believe it but I'm actually a tiny bit upset about this.

Harbaugh at spring practice is going to win and it's lame. Real lame. The reason Spring Practices GIF is going to win is because of the sentimentality of that moment rather than the merit of the GIF.

If Good Shit Jedd GIF and Grinch GIF played for Jim Harbaugh, they would be in the finals because Harbaugh's teams are meritocracies.

What are the merits of Good Shit Jed? I don't get what is fascinating about it.

The one I liked best was Harbaugh's Huddle, which is the most visually striking gif, IMO.  Punt Demo is my next favorite.

Harbaugh's Huddle and his Jake Ruddddock pump up GIFs are also some of my other favorites.

My post was intended to be tongue-in-cheek so I think we're on the same page about one GIF having more 'merit' than another GIF. It's an offseason bracket of GIFs, so beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder.

If I were to attempt to argue the betterness of Grinch Gif over Spring Game using a more technical or objective scale, I would say the Spring Game GIF is boring. Like, it could be a picture boring. The Grinch GIF cannot be shown with a picture and therefore is inherently better as a GIF because it offers more from a moving picture perspective. I also like that it shows the exact opposite of Media Jim Harbaugh - that he can work amicably with and give credit to his coaching staff.*

But, like I said...we're arguing about the merits of GIFs so I'm not super serial/cereal.

*I will also admit I am sentimental to that GIF because I LOVED the setup and play call that preceeded it.

Punt Demo is losing?  Wow.

WELL OKAY is not that remarkable to me - yeah, he's mad, but there are a lot of gifs of that.  Watching him demonstrate a punt, OTOH, is pretty awesome.

As with all tournaments, the seeding is at fault. The two grins are the alpha and omega to JH season 1. They should have been seeded such that they could only meet in the final.

Yes, the seeding seems... off?

And... if people are voting up the GIFs for something other than the merit of the GIF in & of themselves, then the whole thing will seemed skewed.  Like it does.

For instance, I like THIS gif because it happened at THIS game or when the score was THIS.  Rather than THAT gif (Harbaugh Huddle, for example) is sheer badassery in Stand On Its Own merit.

WELL OKAY has been done by a million coaches and will be done a million times more.

PUNT DEMO is in a league of its own. Can't believe it's losing to a nondescript sideline flare-up!

We need voter IDs here...

"WELL, OKAY!" is made by Jabrill's arm.  He is trying, and failing, to get Harbaugh to notice that a flag was thrown.  I love that even Jabrill Freakin' Peppers seems a little hesitant to actually confront Harbaugh in full rage.

Do not sleep on this Gif.

Edit - didn't see Jasper's post until after I posted.  I appreciate his (or her'?) POV, but still respectfully disagree.  I hope my post helps explain my view.

I stand by my vote for punt demo though WELL OKAY is receiving a lot of backlash for some reason that I don't think is fair. I think that gif has great merit to it as it demonstrates that Harbaugh lives his life in one way and one way only, as shown in this gif when yelling at the refs or acknowledging them. I don't think it's a stretch to imagine a similar Harbaugh ordering doughnuts at Washtenaw Dairy while discovering that they're out of sprinkles.

WELL OKAY also has a funny kid toward the end in a blue hat that can't seem to stop mouth breathing.

It isn't solely the sentimentality of SGG that makes it a winner, thought that is a compelling aspect of it. It is the latent potential that it holds for everything that would eventually come after it.

All the other gifs exist there. It is the spring event from which the river of entertaining moments flow.

I really thought Rage Stripping would go the distance, it's just classic Harbaugh (not to mention being the cover gif for the whole contest), so I'm a bit disappointed.  But my second was WELL OK, so I'm still in the mix for that one.

Good shit Jedd is by far my favorite.  I'm going to go crawl under a rock until September.

Please don't hold me to my word, I really won't be crawling under any rocks.

We begin in Act I, where JH is doing his job with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind. In this case, he is fielding questions.

In Act II, JH has already experienced a plot twist, which causes him to snap to attention.

Act III, is the comedic relief. JH grins widely and is filled with satisfaction.

Act IV, my personal favorite, sees JH slowly revert back to sleepover savant and super weirdo, lest he leave his guard down too long.

Dr. Harbaugh was the best gif hands down for a multitude of reasons.  No, it wans'the funniest, the cutest, the most iconic . . . but it was 100% pure Harbaugh on every level.  I thought that was the point of this whole thing.

Can we just crown the spring game grin? We all know that was a defining moment, we knew when it first happened. We were all watching live. The moment speaks to so much. HARBAUGH

I'm demoralized by the narrow defeat of Grinch. I think it captures the essence of Harbaugh: utterly confident and possibly insane.

I expect to hear reports of recruiting violations by Spring Game Grin any day now.  Buying votes with cash, putting cream cheese (or was it jam?) on bagels, that sort of thing.

Not that MGoBlog will do anything about it because they're as crooked as sin.

It's the moment when everyone saw harbaugh was home. It was spontaneous joy that he was finally at the big house coaching Michigan football, fulfilling a life goal. For us it's the moment we knew (if we didn't already, it was confirmation) he is here to stay and to bring us back.
