Jim Harbaugh GIF Tournament 2016: The Bad Times Region Comment Count

Ace

Brian is out for the day, so I've moved the next region of the tournament up a day, in part because one more day of voting isn't going to change the results from the Good Times region. Those results:

#1 Harbaugh As Grinch: 5,190 (93%)

#8 Harbaugh Clapping: 375 (7%)

#4 Harbaugh/Drevno Awkward Celebration: 2,374 (56%)

#5 Harbaugh/Drevno Successful Fist Bump: 1,902 (44%)

#3 "You're Really Good": 2,236 (57%)

#6 Rudock Hug-Like Substance: 1,696 (43%)

#2 Spring Game Grin: 3,249 (76%)

#7 Fist Pump: 1,046 (24%)

Those were relatively easy selections; even the dueling Harbaugh/Drevno celebrations had a gap of nearly 500 votes between them. This region should be more competitive; I've seeded (and reseeded, and reseeded) Harbaugh's various sideline blowups for the Bad Times region, and it should come as no surprise that this is the strongest group.

As always, click the stills to open each GIF in a lightbox. Righteous anger, ahoy.

THE BAD TIMES REGION

(1) Rage Stripping vs. (8) Hat Antics

It's great enough that Harbaugh gets so hot under the collar he has to start stripping. I'd like to also draw attention to Kori the Cord Guy, who has to be in the running for most skilled student equipment manager in the country.

It speaks to the brutality of this region that this is only an eight-seed. The GIF begins with Harbaugh already incensed enough that he's removed his hat; I'm pretty sure he momentarily forgot this, as that weird head-rub thing—as you'll see in a few GIFs—is how he angrily takes it off. Otherwise this is a pretty standard Harbaugh-ref interaction until he snaps his hat back onto his head, which takes this from entertaining to mesmerizing. Again, this is the eight-seed.

(2) Slow-Motion Meltdown vs. (7) Intent To Deceive

Magnificent. Every TV outlet needs a dedicated Harbaugh super-slow-mo camera.

To top off Harbaugh's dismissive-turned-rageful reaction to the infamous "intent to deceive" penalty, we catch a glimpse of a very amused Jay Harbaugh in the background right at the end. Yeah, he's seen this before.

(3) WELL OKAY vs. (6) Plea To The Football Gods

After a Florida defender committed an obvious facemask on Amara Darboh, Harbaugh sprinted down the sideline screaming for a call, gesticulating the whole way.

You may note a brave player—by the arm sleeve, I believe it's Jabrill Peppers—tried to get Harbaugh's attention when he reached the offical. Harbaugh, too deep into rage mode to notice, proceeded to scream "HEY, THEN CALL IT. YOU CALLED IT? YOU CALLED IT? WELL, OKAY."

The best moment from a spectacular Harbaugh performance in the Citrus Bowl. There's a little more context provided in the comments of that post; the reason Harbaugh was so upset is the official closest to the play missed the obvious facemask call and had to be bailed out by another official who was standing well clear of the play. In the GIF itself, though, all we see is Harbaugh screaming for a flag that's already been thrown, and that's peak Harbaugh.

Jim Harbaugh is a living reaction GIF. This is one of the finer examples.

(4) Sheet Throw vs. (5) Rage On The Run

Harbaugh showing off his Maravichian arsenal of rage moves.

If there's a GIF I underseeded, it's probably this one. The technique stands out here. With one deft movement, he removes his headset; with another—the aforementioned back-to-front motion—his hat is in his hand. The rest of the sideline stands back to watch the show. Did I mention Harbaugh had a magnificent Citrus Bowl performance? I did? It's worth saying again.

rage stripping and slow motion meltdown are my two favorites out of all them (both this region and the other).

I think people might be voting for the gifs based on seeding rather than their actual opinion. there is some psycological theory that claims this.

It's either that or I'm just salty that one of the gifs that I voted for in the last section didn't make it.

Interesting theory, but here's a counterpoint: the sheet throw is currently losing the 4-5 matchup, which is a travesty and everyone who voted for the 5 seed should be ashamed. Harbaugh injured himself throwing those papers. It's the only example on the list where Harbaugh's rage actually caused someone physical harm, and that someone was him!*

*Unlike, say, Woody Hayes's rage, or Bob Knight's.

I love Hat Antics and wish it had a shot to advance, he clearly tried taking off his hat twice, amazing. Also, Well Okay should advance to the final four in my opinion, the entire sequence is just fantastic.

I had to pick the 5-4 upset only because of the players' reaction. You can see one guy push through at the end to make sure he doesn't miss any of the show. By this point in the season they know when fireworks are coming. How do you not want to run through a wall for a coach who cares that much?

the NBA Western Conference playoffs of this tournament. Strong from 1-8, but the top 2 seeds are really, really good.

The way the sheet arcs around behind him, it's like his rage has developed a gravitational pull that sucked the folder into orbit.

Slow-mo meltdown is my number 1 seed. I could watch that for way longer than I'd like to admit.

Also, seriously, create a new tab when I vote. This shouldn't be that difficult (I will still vote on this entire tournament if it doesn't happen though...).

by auctioning off the "cord guy" job for each home game.  They could wear a GoPro and instanity would follow.  Each winner would only need an hour or so of training ( getting the hell out of JH's way ) but the gifs/audio/stories would be priceless.  Would also need a disclaimer that M is not responsible for accidental strangulation.

Would hate to be one of the guys with an earpiece in listening in every time the Harbaugh volacano erupts.  Though come to think of it it might be sort of cathartic...

that I absolutely love about "Hat Antics" is the 3 guys in the back standing there watching.  Crossed arms guy, folded hands guy, hands at side guy -

I remember there was a much better sheet throw. Maybe it wasn't out of rage though and just out of annoyance that something didn't work? But it was beautiful to behold. Hopefully it has been gifd.

The Peppers arm coming in absolutely does make that gif

I missed the comments in the last round, but the Harbaugh/Drevno exchange doesn't seem that awkward to me.  Harbaugh unfairly changes at the last minute (he even fucks with people he's celebrating with) and Drevno actually sort of pulls off the switch.  There's no uncomfortable eye contact or accidental penis brush.  This is a middle aged white guy moment that could have very much gone off the rails, but they both still turn toward the field and grin satisfactorily.  I'll be disappointed if that keeps moving on.

Is that Baxter in the background who can do nothing but stare, stunned and motionless, at what's going on in front of him? That look might put that gif even more over the top for me.

Some of my satan worshiping ohio state fans spent nearly all of last season telling me why they hate coaches that yell on the sidelines all the time, and compared him to Brian Kelly and his angry purple face.

There is a fundamental difference between Harbaugh, and Kelly. Kelly yells at, and gets irate at his players like every other shitty coach does. Harbaugh yells at, and gets irate at the refs like every great coach should.

My favorites are always going to be Coach pulling the hat down as far as it will go. One day we will see that brim come clean off. I love the passion- he's fighting for his team. How can you not love that?

Had aught doesn't say "well, okay." He ends the rant with "where's the flag?" because there wasn't one. The linesman had thrown a flag for offsides and had to drop his hat for the facemask. In fairness to Harbaugh, the ref he WAS yelling at missed the call.
All that being said, that gif is the winner of this bracket, hands down.

After rewatching these over and over again, I've come to the conclusion that Intent to Deceive is grossly underseeded due to the screaming of BULLSHIT. A shame it was put up against the slow-mo meltdown.
