according to Scout, Jeremy Gallon put on a show in the early practice today. He is going to be a real good slot receiver and returner.
Jeremy Gallon's future
hope he doesnt decommit.
What BJ said.
w/ him, martavious and t-rob we're set at slot for a while. add in the 2010 WR's we got and we're solid at WR for another 4 years.
on these sites you can't be a good player if you're 5'9 and Gallon is 5'8!!!
I really wish he was at least 6'0 and then maybe we could get excited about this? He is just a smurf and will not help out at all even though he is standing out like a sore thumb right now among his peers.
Fortunately, Darius Reynaud didn't read those sites. He is 5'9". Bob Sanders is 5'8" and he somehow manages to do just fine against receivers with 6 inches of height on him.
The most important reason wide receivers need height is for jump balls. Gallon would likely be used primarily for screens and short passes, making that height less important. Size is important, but it's not everything.
I'm very excited about Gallon and believe he will be a big play guy with regards to reverses, trick plays, kick returns, and in the slot. Just taking a stab at the "smurf haters".
From here on out I will put "I'm being sarcastic" at the bottom of post cause I don't know how to make it anymore obvious. Ugh.......
Man, everything i hear about this kid is always good. This kid is going to be a monster. I can't wait to watch this kid play.
I love "waterbugs" because they aren't just wide receivers. If you watched WVU play the other day Jock Sanders and Darrell Jalloh were used as slot/running backs, so they can be used in a lot of variations.
Options, pitches, reverses, swing passes, the game opens up with versatility. This year, we had a lot of big, slow boys (or just big in some cases). Next year, the offense will be much more versatile.
Hopefully his speed will off set his size. I just hope he doesn't get knocked around a lot like McGruffie did
McGuffie's vision was surprisingly lacking on kick returns. He got rocked a couple times. But playing slot receiver is going to be less physically demanding than playing running back. I'm not too worried about Gallon's durability.
I think Jeremy Gallon won MVP honors for todays practice.
Tomorrow's GBW headline: "Gallon wavering?"
Haha would not surprise me at this point
They already did it to some degree in tonight's blog. I think the exact wording was: And we ask Gallon about his sudden fame - will it make him take another look around?
What a joke. Just another example of how recruiting has become a circus.
....is just despicable. I just read it at GBW.
And then clicked off the site.
I read on umgoblue.com that he was the only player on the east that scored...which was 4 times. Also that he burned OSU commit Jamie Wood all day. FWIW
yea and that Kevin Newsome needs the most work out of all the QB's
Ya I read that but it didn't matter to me.
apparently Justin Turner had a great day too. any updates on brandon gibbons trucking anyone?
I wish lol
Pats fans not concerned with his height.
I played offense I was a rb in high school and I ran over some big dudes and I was only like 5'8 also. I just got lower and kept my legs going. I grew about 3 inches after I graduated.
Although height doesn't concern me, who is to say Gallon wont grow a few inches over a couple years?
If he were an outside receiver, I'd be concerned about his height. At 5'8", I'm not worried about his height at all. It improves his change of direction ability and it gives him a split second advantage to get down before he takes a big hit. And like somebody else said above, they're not going to be throwing jump balls to him - he's going to catch hitches and screens and maybe an occasional downfield route. Nobody's going to be tossing fade patterns to Jeremy Gallon or Terrence Robinson or Martavious Odoms.
So Ya I know he's only 5'8 but if his speed is as good as people say it is we could really use that since we really don't have a deep threat anymore besides maybe Tav Odoms, and if TF can come in and win the starting job and be as accurate as he was in HS we could throw the ball down the field this year wouldn't that be something lol
Stonum and Hemingway are deep threats. Mathews has shown the ability to go get deep balls, too. None of them is Braylon Edwards or Mario Manningham, but they're fast enough and have the size to catch some balls over the top.
I'm not worried about our receivers. We have the depth and the talent to make things happen on the outside. We just have to have a quarterback who's going to take advantage of the open receivers.
the QB situation stressed me out all year, missing wide open backs and WR's, as a former QB (HS) not every throw is perfect and some balls are over/under thrown, but what I seen last year from our boys was just down right stressful lol, I hope Threet improved on everything really or Tater fights and wins for the starting stop and can hit his throws. only time will tell tho
P.S. I don't know why anyone likes Lil' Wayne and his Hip Pop.
One thing that stands out is the fact that he follows his blocking. When I go to HS games nowadays all I see is run to the sideline and try to escape.
I do think he could be used on fly routes and other deep routes but I think he is unbelievable on screens. From the direct snaps he breaks tackles and gets out of scrums.
By the way this is his junior film. AND WE NEED SOMEONE WHO WON'T FUMBLE ON RETURNS!
You don't like Lil' Wayne? His genius comes in his mixtapes man, the mixtapes. Dedication 2. Check it out.
Watching his videos on youtube, he's got great feet, good balance and good burst, from the video he looks really FAST, and can make people miss and he don't need much room to do that which is a great sign which is what we need, I'm thinking he could come in and be a impact player right away.
Man, Gallon can run FAST. Looks good in that winged helmet too.
Monday Morning Practice:
Justin Turner had a real solid day playing corner instead of safety. Darius Winston is playing the other corner. He made a few impressive open field tackles and won a defensive MVP award in a 5-5 box drill where the offensive player tries to make the defensive player miss. He did receive a stinger but wasn't out long. He also was one of the best in the "scoop and score" drill
Big Will showed good hands for a DT and beat double teams consistently.
Most impressive was Jeremy Gallon. Aaron Murry and him connected on a 37 yd td where he apparently "torched" his defender. It was stated that safeties are having a hard time keeping up with Gallon. Sounds like he had multiple tds and was burning defenders left and right.
Monday Afternoon practice:
Big Will played some QB while the offensive line was getting work. He said he could do it all, run the option and throw..ha. Coaches said Justin Turner really impressed again. Gallon and Bryce Brown appear to be the no. 1 & 2 in kick return while Je'Ron Stokes, Kendrick Hardy and Donte Moss are also getting time.
Sounds like Odoms better watch his back, Gallon looks like Darren Sproles ;)
Here is the evening update:
The East Team analyst: "Gallon was the best wide receiver there for the East team. He and (Georgia quarterback commit Aaron) Murray connected on a couple touchdown passes and he was a matchup problem for the secondary. He was in the slot and I guess that's what Michigan is going to use him for. That's what he did here today and he looked really good. He's obviously not the biggest guy, but he doesn't need to be. He's going to be able to get open, get the ball in his hands and do a lot of things with it. he had good hands today and every time the ball was thrown his way, he caught it. He looked like one of the best guys here."
"(Turner's) physical at the line. He's not the biggest kid, but he's a taller kid. He and (Arkansas commit) Darius Winston were the first team cornerbacks and thy both looked like they belonged on the field. He's another guy they probably won't pick on this week because he's so talented. He'd either knock the pass away or hit the wide receiver and the wide receiver would drop the ball"
Here is more from Rivals.
OO they have video in that link...
Cutting and pasting is a violation of your terms of service I believe.
And as for the headline, it's called SALES geniuses. It's a business. If you were concerned enough about it to pony up the money and pay $9.95 or less a month you wouldn't have to stress.
