Jeremy Gallon Makes The Grade

By Brian — July 7th, 2009 at 6:45 PM — 102 comments

Per one Jeremy Gallon's myspace page a kid named Jeremy Gallon has made his ACT score and will be on campus this fall. One w00t for the slot receiving. With Fitzgerald Toussaint good to go, the only player Michigan is waiting on is Justin Turner.

Turner still has to pass one section of the goofy Ohio exit exam, which should be formality now that he gives a crap. At least, I'd hope so. I took an equivalent back in the day and it's tough for anyone with opposable thumbs to fail those things. (Except my buddy who went to Harvard after getting a 1600 on the SAT; the state of Michigan said his writing skills were at a "novice" level.)

This is why that is schwing-worthy news:

For more, check Gallon's recruiting profile, now thankfully not wasted effort.

UPDATE: Tom flags down Gallon for a quick interview:

TOM: So, you qualified?
JEREMY: Yup.

TOM: What was the deciding factor?
JEREMY: I had to get a couple points on my ACT, and I had to boost my GPA. That was it mainly.

TOM: So that's all you needed to qualify?
JEREMY: Yup, Coach [Rod] Smith called me and said he had some good news. I checked the internet to see for myself, and I'm really happy.

TOM: So when are you going up to Ann Arbor?
JEREMY: Coach Smith is going to give me a call, and let me know. I just want to go up there and show everybody what I'm capable of.

As much as I am a Michigan Traditionalist,

those blue-on-blue uni's with the winged helmet look sweet.

What the hell, might as well defile all our traditions in one shot. I could see them in a night game, against OSU.

Holy shit that kid is fast.

Holy shit that kid is fast. I'm excited to see what happens when he gets the ball in his hands.

I particularly love watching Devin Gardner's highlights. He moves so fast and so smooth. I just love watching him move across the field. He is like Shakira on the football field (minus the looks, of course).

Some recent players I like to watch on the field are Terrelle Pryor and Percy Harvin. TP runs really fast but looks like he's walking. Percy Harvin is one of the fastest players, if not the fastest player, I have ever seen.

So we can finally fly off into NASA

Wow, some good news from the football camp. Let's hope Turner makes it and then we'll be 3 for 3. Then people will get on RichRod for snake-oil'n some grades..

Jeremy Gallon

should ride into Ann Arbor on a chariot! Go through the palm leave tunnel, one lap inside the stadium, and then park it next to his virgin filled dorm room. Well...at least that's how I started college...

Great News

This is awesome news. I remember the coverage of the AA game back in January and everybody kept saying this kid was tearing it up at practices. He is going to be a great slot reciever for us. Hopefully Justin Turner gets in soon as well.

Thing I like the most

Despite the fact he can dance around other players, he does it efficiently and heads north and south asap. Some players with his cutting ability dance so much, defenders can recover and converge but Gallon uses a cut to move a player from his path and then gets yardage. Very little wasted motion. He is going to be great.

two thoughts

1) The uni makes it too easy to imagine him on the field. Excuse me while I mop up my drool.....

2) I really should have had one of these recruiting videos made when I applied to grad school.

I've redeemed MGoPoints for valuable and exciting merchandise!

Everyone really needs to

Everyone really needs to watch the triple cut back at the 7:00 minute mark in that video. It is insaaane.

Stonum, Stokes, Gallon, Odoms, Roundtree. That is a good mix of different abilities and experience. We are going to be pretty strong at WR for the next few years I think.

Absolutely. With several

Absolutely. With several great receivers coming in next year besides, it looks like RR's going to make it a priority to keep the WR corp stocked.

I'm hoping it's a long time before we have to go through another "bare cupboards" kind of season.

Emergency qb?

I was impressed with the accuracy of JG's passes. If things get tight this year at qb maybe he could be an option? Just thinking of ways to make sure the qb of Death never sees the field.

Clearinghouse Rules

"JEREMY: I had to get a couple points on my ACT, and I had to boost my GPA. That was it mainly."

In case anybody wants to know what that means here is what the NCAA has to say.
https://web1.ncaa.org/eligibilitycenter/hs/d1_standards.pdf

Division 1 is a sliding scale.
Students must graduate from High School and have a grade point average {GPA} of 2.00 in a core curriculum of thirteen academic subjects.

You must also achieve a minimum score on your ACT and SAT This is between 37 and 86 on the ACT. and between 820 and 1010 on the SAT.

Presumably that's a

Presumably that's a cumulative score adding all four (?) sections together and not an average as the ACT is typically reported? I mean, I'm allegedly around genius level intelligence and my offical ACT score was 35, and 36 was a perfect.

I wonder which it was,

I wonder which it was, because according to the sliding scale if he boosts his GPA, the required score he needs on his ACT goes down. If he was scraping by with a 2.0, getting a sum of 86 on the ACT is certainly doable, but no cakewalk if you don't apply yourself.

That's the sliding scale part. The higher his GPA the lower his ACT score can be and vice versa.

Yea, but the score the NCAA

Yea, but the score the NCAA is referring to is a sum score of all 4 sections. You get a score between like 14-36 for each section, they add all those.

If he had a 2.0 GPA, he'd need a sum score of 86 to be cleared. So basically he'd have to average 21.5 in each section.

I remember being so pumped about JG after the AA game. He supposedly was very electrifying that week in practices before getting slightly injured. Very excited to see what he can do. Hopefully catch some punt/kick returns.

If he's not, just create him. We already have to create T. Lewan and Q. Washington, as they didn't include any frosh linemen. So Schofield isn't in it either.

Gallon is the real deal. His speed, elusiveness, and ability to hit top end speed after 2-3 steps says it all. The Big 3 Florida schools passed on Gallon because of his poor academic situation; Michigan took a chance on Gallon and will be rewarded very greatly. This guy is the ultimate slot receiver.

Thank you, Facebook/Brian, for notifying me of this awesomeness on an otherwise nondescript Tuesday nite.

One of the best things I've

One of the best things I've done this summer is take my girlfriend (Michigander) to Seaside Heights. We walked the boardwalk for an hour and a half taking in all the passing marvels. Midwesterners, guidos are very real and more numerous than you can imagine.

Cover your balls, cause we swing kung fu

I can smell the axe body spray from here.
