The nutty Michigan coverage isn't so much about Harbaugh as it is a signal to the Big Ten that Fox wants to party.
Son of a bee-sting! He would have been a good pick-up. Hopefully we can still pick up Barkevious Mingo for the sheer joy of hearing that name for 4-5 years.
he's like 6'5 playing LB, dude's a freak
So Michigan should really be focusing on Tana Patrick, Barkevious, and Dan Mason at this point. If he was as into academics as previously stated I think Michigan would've got a harder look.
Dang. On scout it said a soid committ has gone soft. Who is that???
I thought everyone knew he wasn't picking Michigan. I've heard rumors for both Penn State and Florida, so we'll see. This one has been a mystery. The DeQuinta Jones thing is old too. I don't like the fact that he's sneaking around, and not telling the coaches he's taking visits though. I'm not that high on him anyway, as long as we can keep Pearlie and get Will back we're fine.
Still think UM's best shot at a solid LB is with Dan Mason. I think it's going to be next to impossible to get Mingo away from LSU and Patrick away from Alabama. Mason is more local, and we're not going up against superpowers for him. Rumor is he currently favors Pitt, but if he visits and gets offered (like I think he should and will), I think we'd have a much better shot at Mason than any other linebackers still out there.
O, Jelani, where art thou?
Suddenly Gholston seems like a prime target for 2010.
Gholston already was a prime target for 2010...not sure what Jenkins dropping Michigan has to do with that.
Jelani was my favorite recruiting target this year. Wherever he goes I'll follow the kid's career- he looks like the kind of stud we need to start recruiting at LB. I just hope he doesn't pick PSU.
Now I gotta pull for Barkevious, just for the shot at saying "Maybe the Mingo took your baby" in a horrific Australian accent for the next 4 years.
I think we need to forget about any recruits that care about academics...this is the 2nd guy I thought we were in great shape for because of the academics angle and got stoned. The 1st was Myron Rolle....I thought the guy was full of shit when he picked FSU over us......I guess I was slightly off with that whole Rhodes Scholar thing he won...:-)
It's a completely bogus excuse when football players talk about academics. If that was the case and it was so important these kids would be going to Standford and other elite academic schools. THe only thing 97% care about in regards to academics when they state academics is important is how flexible the school is in allowing them to get help when in class and how lenient a school is in letting a kid stay academically eligible to play football with the least possible effort in the classroom. Sure a kid has to put in some effort but not like the effort non athletes like ourselves had to put in to make it in college. Besides, a kid can get a great education at any uni if they put in the effort. Jelani wants the best school for him football wise. Academics is secondary to him. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Thanks for the info Chitown.
even though I wept openly when I read this. Sackcloth and ashes for my Christmas Eve outfit I guess, oh well.
"Jelani was my favorite recruiting target this year. Wherever he goes I'll follow the kid's career- he looks like the kind of stud we need to start recruiting at LB."
True. Fucking. Dat.
I might get lambasted for this, but I think the whole "academics" thing is overblown. Kids can get a tremendous education almost anywhere IF they take their studies seriously. Obviously, there are differences between schools and there's a reason some schools have better reputations than others.
But when it comes down to it, if you're interested in learning about Greek history, you'll do the reading and ask the right questions and go to the right lectures and spend the time and effort to be successful.
Don't get me wrong - I don't think the idea of "education" is overblown. I just think you get out of it what you put into it, whether you're at Yale or Central Michigan.
Agree completely with you, Magnus.
right with you
i agree that you can learn the same, and you can come out with the same education. tell the employer you're applying for that it's the same though. that your degree from CMU is just as good as the one from Yale, because you studied hard. Don't tell me either though that you're not going to get better professors at say Yale, as compared to CMU.
Yeah, you're absolutely right. A Yale degree looks better than a CMU degree. But as far as the actual education (i.e. what's in a student's brain, not on a piece of paper) goes, it can be pretty equal. I'm sure there are very intelligent, productive CMU grads...and there are probably some Yale grads who skated by without learning a whole lot.
Having that Yale degree helps you get your foot in the door, no question. It does nothing for you if you don't perform well on the job, however. Once you're hired, its all about performance.
is still not visiting. Would not be shocked if Jelani selected PSU as many Maryland fans have season tickets to PS games(stadium is not that far from Maryland State line). Joe Pa does say "linebacker U" without spitting out His dentures, which is impressive.
It makes sense. Ron Vanderlinden is one of the best linebackers coaches in CFB.
