it could happen?

We normally don't do minute-by-minute updates on specific recruits, but when it's crunch time for a guy who might be the #1 player in the country that's an exception worth making. So: UCLA sources are reporting that Brown has dropped the Bruins and Scout's Evan Daniels says that his list of eight is now five:

The other teams cut are the two Georgia schools that seemed like courtesy listings for the locals.

In the wake of that news and Austin Hatch going on medical scholarship, Michigan has scored a bunch of Crystal Ball predictions. I wouldn't put too much stock into that, as Brown's recruitment has been extraordinarily tight-lipped, but it's better than the alternative. A staffer on 247's Kansas site thinks Kansas is all but out as well and that the three schools with a real shot are Cal, Michigan, and Kentucky.

I've been scouring the relevant message boards and Kentucky guys have not been particularly optimistic despite their recruiting proficiency… but again, nobody seems to have a feel for how this recruitment will go. After all, many thought UCLA was the leader.

Good times for a change. See, the luck I've had can make a good man turn bad. So please, please, please, let me, let me, let me... let me... get what I want this time.

It's very difficult to predict at this stage...

For a JB coached team, there are basically 3 position groups:

Guards: Levert, Walton, Albrecht, MAAR

Wings: Irvin, Brown, Dawkins, Robinson, Wagner, Chatman

Centers: Doyle, Wilson, Donnal

*8 man rotaton in bold

I think Beilein will play 9 (one of Robinson, Wagner or Chatman will emerge) and the 3rd center usually gets minutes due to foul trouble.  The battle for minutes will be alive all season.  If spike is anything less than 100% I think he should redshirt, although I'm sure he would want to be a part of this team.

Due to his year in the program?  Practice hype?  What we've seen from Chatman?

I really like Chatman's potential.  He struggled mightily last year, but you can just see his potential oozing due to his length and handle.  If he gets stronger and adds a little quickness and explosion, I can envision a scenario where his confidence swells and he becomes a major asset.

I'm worried about Robinson not being able to guard guys in the Big Ten.

Wagner looks like the ideal Beilein 4, but I could also see him having problems playing on the wing and therefore being converted to a pick and pop 5.

If he only does one hip he will be ready - Max had same surgery and was fine and had the surgery later than Spike.  If Spike does both hips it could be an issue with timing as each is a 4-5 month recovery.  If he heals fast and its 8 months from 1st surgery he should be ok, if its a full 10 months yes a RS seems in order.

presumed starters are Walton, Levert, Irvin and Doyle.  I think JB would likely get the last spot, but he'd have to actually beat out Dawkins, MAAR, Robinson, Chatman, Donnal, Wagner and DJ Wilson for that spot.  Yikes, that's crazy competition.  Subs crazy.

That starting five should be very good no matter if JB wins the spot or not.

Since the CB trending predictions for Washington coming here were so on the money, it's wrapped up that Brown's a Wolverine.

I think Brown would pick Michigan.   Like most one and done kids Brown will probably pick a school with a little more talent and to try winning a NC before bolting for the NBA.

Without him, I'd say Michigan is a contender for the B1G title and maybe a Sweet 16 / Elite 8 team. With him, I'd say we might be a prohibitive favorite for the B1G and a sudden contender for the national championship

That can't be too good for us, can it?  Couple that with Brandon Ingram committing to Duke yesterday.  I think Jaylen was waiting to see what Ingram would do.  I think Kentucky is definitely our biggest threat.
