Don't see what the big deal is. If it's a confirmed ACL tear, then there's not much one can do at this point. It's not like a different doctor is going to come along and say, "Hey, I magically fixed it!".
My guess is a doctor confirmed an ACL tear, so yeah, a meltdown is order.

Hopefully he gets better sooner rather than later.
