Press release.

University of Michigan Football Injury Report

For the Delaware State Game (Saturday, Oct. 17)

Out

Zac Johnson (shoulder)

David Molk (foot)

Probable (75 percent chance of playing)

Carlos Brown (concussion)

Tate Forcier (concussion)

In addition, head coach Rich Rodriguez announced the game captains for the game against Delaware State: defensive end Brandon Graham, kicker Jason Olesnavage, linebacker Ohene Opong-Owusu and left tackle Mark Ortmann.

[/press release]

Interesting that Brown's on this one but wasn't last week, eh? Gamesmanship? (Rosenberg: read LIES LIES LIES)

Same...

I was wondering the same thing. With a name like that you should be on the field.

Rosenberg would have to

Rosenberg would have to research what the report said last week. Too much effort.

Rosenberg does about as much

Rosenberg does about as much 'research' as Bill "Huge" Simonson. For any of you who have heard his 3 hour daily infomercial, this should make you laugh.

So long as were winning against Del State

So long as were winning (convincingly) against Del State, does it make sence to keep Forcier in the game?

Denard could surely use the extra snaps and passing attempts and we need Forcier to be 100% for PSU.

From past personal experiance, if a concussion is not fully healed and you play it makes it easier to get re-concussed to a worser degree. That would create worst case situation for next month. SO AS LONG AS WERE WINNING IS IT WORTH IT?

we could tell them we'll run...

every play and still get 5 yards per carry. Lets be honest... I wouldn't really play Tate... I can't imagine he'll play more than a drive or two if they march down the field... I can't see how they can possibly hang with our speed. I think it will be like the EMU game..except worse. Michigan will probably put up close to 400 on the ground. I see Carlos breaking some long ones. And Denard probably breaks one or two for 50 or so. A poor 1AA team won't be able to handle their speed.

There is NO way that Tate

should see the field in this game. Anyone in his right mind would keep him rested until PS. Period. If he goes in there and is hurt consider the consequences of that decision.

DR needs to lead this team until there is a comfortable lead. Then put in someone else.

I completely agree.

I completely agree. I think we need to save Tate for the Penn State game. I would be so mad if he got hurt playing against Delaware State.

I can see Denard leading the team and Sheridan getting some snaps in.

We are going to run all over them

but I sure hope Denard gets to throw it around some. But I foresee lots of rushing yards on Saturday.

Other players

I'd like to Heininger spell Graham on the d-line as much as possible to avoid any injuries there, and frankly feel like we might as well get Campbell some more playing time.

On the offense, lets give Cox and Smith some carries.

I wasn't a fan of seeing

I wasn't a fan of seeing "Concussion" on injury reports last year with McGuffie. I'm not a fan now.

In a finesse-based offense with small-ish players, they've gotta be more careful against physical teams like Iowa (OSU and PSU as well). I love the effort, but McGuffie got just flattened a bunch of times last year, and Tate's running around like Ferris Beuller trying to beat his parents home.

Maybe it's a freshman thing - they don't realize that they can't run around with abandon in a more physical game - or something. The problem is, once you suffer a concussion, you're more susceptible to later ones.

I don't doubt that Tate will adjust and is gonna try to bulk up a little in the offseason (sort of like a 19-year-old Drew Brees). But he shouldn't play against a cupcake when he had a concussion last week, no matter how "minor."

Big Fish Small Pond Syndrome

For the record I treasured Sam McGuffie last year as the only thing Michigan could hang its offensive hat on last year. And he definitely sacrificed his body to get us yards and points.

I think he and Forcier were too used to being amazing untouchable gods in high school games (exhibit 1: mcguffie hurdling that kid in the famous youtube clip).

In college everyone is fast enough and big enough to hurt them, when only maybe 1 player per year in their high school schedule was that good. They must adjust to the new level.

Reggie Bush and Vince Young are falling victim to it in the NFL.

I agree, only I would think he shouldn't play regardless of the opponent. His long-term welfare is at stake.
The National Athletic Trainers Association position statement (2004) suggests waiting at least 7 days before return to play (contact). And I think that's 7 days after cessation of symptoms, such as headache. I'm sure Michigan's AT and medical staff is totally on top of this.
I hope Forcier, Brown, and for that matter Tebow, all have a speedy and complete recovery (it seems Tebow IS recovered!).

Anyone know if there are any more Opong-Owusus in the queue? It would be a bummer not to have that awesome jersey-filling name on the sideline anymore.
