I didn't see the call, but it is expected that the player being tripped will attempt to continue playing as normal. If the player is tripped but also embellishes the fall, you're going to wind up with even up minor penalties.
It's actually somewhat rare that a player completely fabricates illegal contact, which would result in just a diving call.

I'm not even mad anymore, it's just looking like it's not meant to be. Goalie playing out of his mind against us (which is the main thing -- in one-and-done, a hot goalie is all you need), terrible luck, it's all coming together.

Yep, like Brian said, this is what can happen in a one-and-done format. Hit a hot goalie, get stymied by the refs and your season's over. But congrats to UM on a great season, especially after that rough start. It's disappointing to be out of the tourney in the first round, but it was still a great season, if not a bit disappointing considering last year's surprise Frozen Four run. Just watch this young team bulldoze its way to Ford Field next year...
