Two reviewed goals. One is ruled a goal (questionable) and one is ruled a no-goal (complete BS). Net result: a 3-2 loss for the Michigan hockey team.
BTW, I'm not talking about Notre Dame.
Totally agree. OSU sucks at hockey and the announcers kept saying it was such a great rivalry. Umm ya right. I bet the all time record is not even close. That was a goal for us and probably a good goal for them. So, a 3-3 overtime game is what it should have been, even though we played like shit and looked like we laid down after our 2nd goal.
Saying OSU "sucks" is a bit of a stretch. Okay, so they're not a traditional power like us but they have spent a lot of time building that program up and they've produced some great talent (Ryan Kessler leaps to mind)
Also, it's a rivalry because it's Michigan and Ohio State. I'm not one of those people who says that rivalry only exists in football... it's school wide.
I actually completely disagree with you. M vs OSU in hockey is much different than M vs OSU in football. The hockey team does not respect OSU in hockey because they are not very good, and have not ever been very good. They are a program that will at best get to the top 4 of CCHA once every 4 years, they do not rival M in hockey at all. Sure, M "hates" OSU but until they get on the same level as M it will not be a rivalry.
The talent they have produced is also not even close to what M produces or brings in every year. Pretty much every year M sends a guy to the NHL who becomes a decent to above average player. So for every Kesler there are 4 Paciorettys, Comries, Morrisons, Turcos, Komisareks, and Johnsons.
Also, if you are a young top hockey prospect you are not going to choose OSU for school, that place is for older USHL kids looking for a place to go, or below average prospects. The great young players are traditionally going to choose M, Minny, BC, ND, Sconnie (Wisc), MSU, or CHL (Canadian Hockey League, Major Juniors).
I never asserted they were on our level, just that outright dismissal of them is a bit harsh. And if Michigan only respects schools on their level like, do they only respect State, WCHA and Hockey East?
We outshot them 16-5 in the third. That is not laying down. Carlson stood on his head. I was actually very impressed that the team didn't lay down after Louie's goal was disallowed, because after that I knew there was no way we were going to win the game.
Is anyone surprised? A B10/CCHA officiating crew showing utter incompetence...NO FUCKING WAY!!!!!!
It's really pathetic how terrible B10/CCHA referees are at their job. As maddening as it is, there is no foreseeable change in sight. This is how it is going to be, indefinitely.
And that is truly unfortunate.
All those bad calls did was show where the $ in tO$U came from. I don't know the rules about kicking in the puck so I can't say that was a good call or a bad call but it looked like to me that the suckeye kicked it in. About the no-goal call it is another case of inadequate cameras to do the job. Red said during the ND game the reason they can only use the overhead cameras is that other teams may not have as many cameras as we do so in order to keep eveything fair they have to use only what everyone can afford. So I guess my question is why can't they (these universities that cannot afford extra cameras) get 2 kids from the audio video dept. to come in and volunteer their time. I am sure that they could afford the cameras and the kids who do it can put it on their resume. It can't be that difficult.
