Hemingway "Questionable" Comment Count

Brian

No this isn't about a Farewell To Arms. Michigan's first official injury report ever (EVER!):

MICHIGAN INJURY REPORT

For the Notre Dame game on Saturday, Sept. 12:

Out:

Nader Furrha (shoulder)

Tim McAvoy (knee)

Fitzgerald Toussaint (shoulder)

Questionable (50 % chance of playing):

Junior Hemingway (ankle)

Probable (75% chance of playing):

Brandon Minor (ankle)

In addition, head coach Rich Rodriguez announced the game captains for the 3:30 p.m. game against Irish: linebacker Stevie Brown, superback Kevin Grady, right guard David Moosman and defensive end Tim North.

-------------------

But on Rodriguez's radio show they used a different, worse word:

Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez said on his radio show Thursday that receiver Junior Hemingway is "doubtful" for Saturday's showdown with No 18 because of a sprained ankle. …

"He's a big big-play guy for us, so we're hoping he can come back," Rodriguez said. "I don't know if he'll be ready this game. If not, hopefully the next game."

Bler! Stupid Angry Michigan Receiver-Hating Czarist Nobles. Minor, at least, seems likely to go.

We really need somebody to step up if Hemmingway isn't going to be playing. I really hope Hemmingway plays, though. He showed some playmaking skills last week and I think we may need him to be able to sneak past Notre Dame. Having Brandon Minor back will be big, though. I really don't know who to pick for this game. I'm going to have to think we will lose this one, but it's definitely not a guarantee for ND. I wouldn't be surprised if we won, but I don't expect it.

Can Grady break out and play like a previous 5 star should? I would love him to get a few carries and then show some skills that have been dormant since high school. Either way can't wait to go back to the Big House on Saturday. Captain FUPA/GUNT is going to get his front butt smashed in.

No news on Cissoko has to be a good thing. The Hemingway injury really hurts our air attack, obviously, but hopefully someone will step up. I'd love to see Stonum make an impact, and I hope that him seeing Hemingway injured this week made him realize that he could be the guy and practice really hard this entire week knowing he'd have a chance.

Well this ain't going to help Michigan out very much as he was the main target last week and I thought he looks like the best receiver this year. Hopefully Stonum steps up this week and Minor runs really good even though Carlos Brown looked pretty good last week.

Hemingway is doubtful which means some else has to step up. Maybe Kelvin Grady will do it this week. Minor will play for sure. That's cool! What is up with Stonum? UM is so young still. Too many questions marks on this team.

is bawling his eyes out.

So somebody has to step up this weekend:

Greg Mathews

Darryl Stonum

Roy Roundtree

Martavious Odoms

It's not like Michigan is devoid of talent and experience after Hemingway's injury.

I don't think RR plays psych games about these injuries. He's not pulling "a Hayden Fry" where 8 guys are on the "injured list" for Thursday night, and then miraculously make a full recovery by kickoff.

UM has plenty of backs and receivers to work with. Tate can get the ball to any of them.

But Michigan doesn't have proper backups for the cornerbacks Warren and Cissoko, which is pretty damn scary.

I would think that based on the relative strength of ND's secondary compared with their D-line, our gameplan will probably be to run it down their throats all day. Obviously having Hemingway out would be bad, but I think that having Minor healthy(ish) is going to be more important.

...during the halftime show of Clemson-GA Tech.

The "frontbutt" is in full bloom.

More like "A Farewell to Feet."

--or--

"For Whom the (Taco) Bell Tolls."

--or--

"The Old Man and the Sea (Bass, with melted butter and tater tots)."

--or--

"A Moveable Feast." (some things are best unchanged).

Get well (fast), Junior!

I guess the first half of the book (which, IMHO, was quite good) was fully edited by Hemingway and the second half was all edited by other folks after his death.

/my apologies for having a book club discussion on a college FB blog

According to Gertrude Stein, everything he wrote is questionable. However, I'd be willing to bet that after even another fifty years a lot more people would be able to name one of his books before one of hers.

Oh, wait. Has the footballer season started? Are the Michigan Wolves playing? I admire the fortitude and upstanding values of their coach, Mr. Richard Rodriguez.

Now, if you'll pardon me, I must go shoot a water buffalo. Boy, bring up the Weatherby . . .

On what play was Hemingway injured? Or was it a practice injury? Can't believe I missed this... working in The Worst State Ever this past couple of weeks is starting to take its toll on me... at least it's Friday and I get to come back to A2 tonight!

Good news is that WR is one of the few positions where we can afford to lose a starter. Stonum, Matthews, Odoms, Grady, Roundtree, Gallon, Stokes (somebody step up dammit!). Plus, we have what appears to be a great tight end and we got really good results last weekend with the I-formation.

Other than Hemingway, we do not have an established #1 receiver. In 2008 and last Saturday, I recall two touchdowns where our receiver had a step on the CB, caught the ball and got into the endzone: both Hemingway, Utah after the blocked punt and last week. Mathews does an amazing job catching passese with no separation. He is not a #1 right now. Stonum hasn't actually shown us anything. We are stocked in the slot. Any word on Stokes and his ability to step in on the outside? When Stonum was in the doghouse this summer, who was on the outside after Hemingway and Mathews? I am deeply concerned about our ability to have a varied offense like last week without Hemingway, and I cannot maintain my prediction of a UM victory unless we get a surprise from somebody who steps up to a #1.

ND has a boat load of talent and they've always had it. The problem with them is that Coach Weiss does not know how to develop his players. He won his first two years because he won with someone elses players who were already developed. When he brought in his own players he couldn't develop them. The only reason ND is competitive now is because of their pure talent which has played together for a few seasons.

ND has not beaten a good BCS team in the past two years, that's bad coaching. He has a good offensive mind but he can't coach. If Michigan had not turned the ball over six times last year, a bad Michigan team would have won that game. Their fans know it. ND has won only a few opening day road games over the past several years I believe? Bad coaching!

Yes, ND is a dangerous team because of their talent, but it would take another bad Michigan performance for them to win this game. Coach RR is an excellent preparation and game day coach. He will have this Michigan team ready to play up to their current potential, his track record reflects that. He's has this team going in the right direction in a shorter period of time than Weiss.

The experts say ND should win this game because they are suppose to be "back" this year. They give Michigan "one more year" so this years Michigan team is playing with house money. However, I still think Michigan will win this game. If I'm wrong ...so what, ND still sucks.

The fact that we outplayed ND last year is a good sign. With both teams improved from then, and the game at home, perhaps we have the upper hand. But what is your analysis of the offense without a true #1. Will we see similar production to last week? Granted, I don't think Hemingway played against ND last year either, and we moved the ball with Mr. Threet.
