Football Display Case
i find this extremely interesting
i may have altered the title
i thought this was america
like I said on twitter: that was almost as intense as Iowa NIT games
...talks about how UConn hasn't been in contact and how they're out. (HT: UMHoops)
Jalen, Burke, and Simmons.

just what the Pistons need: a third string center. Joe Dumars was replaced by a mean ol' alien a few years back you guys.
this would be a close approximation of hypothetical graduation speech
no you guys they're just super pumped about COLLLLLLLLLLLLEGE
not a surprise
premature congrats. One thing we can be sure of: he'll take fewer asinine penalties than Abdelkader
Thanks to ugly transitions between Fulmer/Kiffin/Dooley/Davis, Tennessee is on the edge of APR penalties for football.
i approve of this message
GBW is reporting Michigan has commit #3, and per Jim Stefani's Twitter feed, it's instate sleeper WR Shawn Conway.
Informative update coming later. Discuss amongst yourselves in the meantime, while you take a look at his highlight.
I think that we can all agree that any prospect's reported 40 time is fake in an absolute sense. What I mean is, no Conway doesn't run the 40 in 4.5 seconds. But, 40 times are still somewhat useful to try to figure out what prospects are faster than other prospects.
If we can assume (and it's a big assumption) that in general, all 40 times are approximately as fake as any other 40 time, then we can say that a prospect with a 4.5 40 is faster than one with a 4.6 40.
Thus, I think that 40 times can be useful not to tell us absolute speed but relative speed.
As for your earlier posts, yes, you're right that as a DI prospect he should be getting better separation and that does worry me somewhat. Hopefully he can improve on that in the 1.5 years that he has left in high school.
but 4.5 on this guy looks a little too faked. not necessarily "faked" but mistakes made due to human error(hand time, etc.) make it seem so. and ur assuming a little too much if ur gonna say their 40 times are faked the same way. say one coach stops time generally too early. another coach stops time generally too late. u can have the same kid run a 4.4 and a 4.6 compared to his actual 4.5. a 4.4 is a hell of a lot different than 4.6.
Hook 'em Horns
I didn't see anyone add units in there...Maybe it's 4.5 sec, 40 3.8yd dash.
It's all John Navarre's fault.
this is a Michigan blog damn it
my names "burntorange wit a lil maize." but really, -1 me because u dont like my name or my spelling. exactly the point of a forum based on sports. worry about names, ignore arguments. rather elitist dont u think? not letting/wanting a longhorn fan with a some love for michigan on ur forum. really good representation of UM fans? i dont think so and i hope u arent.
But after this comment, I'm pretty sure you're Em0.
No caps, tons of comments on a recruiting topic and the occasional personal insult thrown in for good measure.
This fits EmO's M.O. to a tee.
Flush twice - it's a long way to Columbus.
why would i capitalize shit...its a football blog not english homework. naw one of my friends told me to come post on here, and i love the recruiting process. plus there are some people who i disagree with and i love arguing. apparently they dont like my spelling cuz i went from like 30 points to 3 in about 15 minutes.
For the record, I really don't care if you're EmO or not, just keep it civil.
And just so you know, MGoBlog isn't your average football blog. People come here to get away from the mindless, text message type garbage that's on MLive, CBS and other football blogs.
Plus, this blog covers everything Michigan, not just football. (Thanks Brian, FA, Tim and others.)
um....ok? -1 for the un-Michigan related name. This is a Michigan blog damn it.
by "bo" do u mean bo schembechler or did u mean "boo" if u meant "boo" then screw u too. i highly doubt thats a bo quote. seriously can u get past my name(which is burntorange wit a lil MAIZE) and read my points instead?
This guy should be banned.

I'm pretty sure it's because Scout and Rivals are slowly trying to rank kids all the way down to 5th grade. So, since he hasn't cracked the Top 300 yet it means that he just wasn't showing the football dedication necessary while also learning how to do long division. The kids obviously need to get their priorities straight.
Is this to help USC and Kiffin out?
These people must have watched a different video. Did anyone watch the kick return at the end?
I think people just need something to complain about after the basketball game.
but the kid certainly looks on the slow side for a D1 receiver. The breakaway speed just isn't there.
What do you mean that the kid "catches everything"? That he had some nice grabs in his HIGHLIGHT video?
I thought that they weren't going to accept that many early commits due to a smaller class. Oh well, if they think he's good, than he probably is, although I wonder if we will take another wide receiver for 2011, we have 5 coming in this year and so much depth that Gallon can barely play.
He has the measurables of a DB... so linebacker?
I know from experience dude. If you know what I mean.
The earlier they commit, the more likely it is that they pan out.
Why? Because such an early offer suggests that they are a priority for the staff, whereas the ones that suddenly commit late in the game are probably more of a desperate fill.
another knock on a kid i know nothing about based on 2 difficult football seasons that have hurt me emotionally because i'm an insecure person and i base a lot of my pride on the michigan football team.
Michigan has 3 commits for 2011, one of which was just named to the first-team at the Army All-American combine. Our last recruiting class was around 12th nationally and 2nd best in the Big Ten. It included top talent like Devin Gardner, Demar Dorsey, Cullen Christian, Marvin Robinson, Austin White, and Jibreel Black. We have three top-100 receivers on the roster currently in Stonum, Stokes, and Gallon, two of which were recruited by Rich Rodriguez.
In summary, you don't know what you're talking about
"I think you are my favorite poster. The polar bear avatar definitely helps." - ShockFX
something about how i know more about recruiting then the staff of people that get paid to do so and have been doing so for many many years. basically talking out of my ass.
safety to be honest. true ball hawker. cant tell from the film how good he is on defense with his tackling. if u didnt have such a good recruiting class of safeties coming in i would have pinned him as a safety at once. he plays CB in highschool but i dont think hes fast enuf to play CB at a d1 level.
possibly... he could just end up a "utility" guy too, if never ends up being a starter-type guy. If he can be used in several areas (likely...special teams) he'll at worst be a decent WR backup and a defensive-convertible guy. I'd want to see some defense out of him first, though.
You have the right to your opinion, but come on, "this program is so stagnant we only get sleepers" is not opinion, it is pure stupidity. You cannot claim that as an opinion because it absolutely is not true.
If you have a problem with this commitment, that's fine. But look at all of the posts you've made in this thread. Almost every one is just yelling at others for having faith in our head coach. Be a little more civil, and maybe then others will be more accepting of your opinion
Conelius was offered early and commited early. He rose throughout his recruitment.
This kid was a Cass Tech body. He is not an unknown to the coaching staff.
Yes Michigan is not Texas, and we didn't go to a bowl game...again. The recruit needs a good firm look post signing and in context to the entire class.
take a sleeper now and see how he pans out in his senior year. obviously this kid has some great upside with the big frame, hands, and leaping ability. his intangibles: toughness, winning every jump ball possible are huge upside.ur not gonna find a guy late in the recruiting process who is a sleeper who still can pan out nicely.
Some of you worry way too much about stars on a HS junior. He is big athletic, and the coaches think highly of him, what's not too like. I don't give a rats ass what rivals and scout think.
I see some jump balls and fades in this kids future. Looks like he could be a good red zone reciever and he has a little bit of shiftyness. Its way too early to be beating the coaches up for sleepers lets wait this out.

No radio. Nothing of value.
ive given up trying to figure out what this staff is doing. all it does is leads to headaches and gives bouje the chance to neg me.
and will be happy if he is truly in the fold and the coaches want him, but how do we know this isn't Travis Williams 2.0? Or Holmes Owunkaife? I suppose if that is the case we will find out in a few days.
There is no confusion over whether he has committed.
Yeastbound and Down

Is he going to be a 1st round pick? Probably not. But with his height, jumping ability, toughness, and outstanding hands, he could play day one on 3rd downs and in the red zone even with his average wheels.
And there's no way one of the top recievers (i.e. Arnett) will shy away because of this commitment, he's not an obvious threat. You need at least two WR's in each class, this is a nice solid signing and we still have room for the five star.
I can understand where everyone on this board is coming from and I can't decide which side I'm on yet
Side A: The coaches are the Pros at recruiting and obviously they know what's best for the future of Michigan football. They spend countless hours trying to find the best talent in the nation to come and play for the Wolverines. If they offered this kid and accepted his commitment, well obviously he must be good. From looking at the film he has great hands and is pretty good with the jump ball. He's still young and may have his coming out party during his Sr. year and we will see everyone offer him.
Side B: The University of Michigan is one of the most historic college football programs of all time. We should only be accepting commitments from the best recruits in the nation. We have a very limited number of spots this year and they should be reserved for the very best athletes in the nation. The coaches can't afford to be filling up valuable spaces so early in the game. Michigan shouldn't have a ton of 3 star talent and a few 4 star men.
Again, I'm torn between the two camps. I guess I just have to have faith in coach Rod.
Side B assumes that they know this kid is a 3-star talent (at best), which they don't, Especially from a 4 minute highlight video.
The coaches thought this kid was worthy of a committable offer (more rare than it seems at this point in the year, with the number of "offers" out there), so they obviously think he's good enough to play.
slightly racist comment to further denigrate a 17 year old i know nothing about
Yeah, white kids are slow and unathletic
I routinely +1 myself in memory of em0, may he RIP

i will make fun of you for not being clever by being not so clever myself. strange tactic, but that's what i do.
**slowly walking away from MichMike before lightning strikes him**
What's your deal tonight, man?
something about lent or something. who cares.
your family has given you up for lent.
Just eat it.
That is what Michigan desperately needs
"Relax you panic monger" -Megatron
Looking forward to seeing him in person - I live about 1/4 mile from Seaholm. As Stephani mentions, the team has not been that good lately, but they play in the second division of OAA, which is a pretty good football conference. Conway had 11 catches for 217 yards and 3 touchdowns in 5 games last year.
11 catches + 217 yards + 3 TD's + 5 games = They need to throw him the damn ball more often.
