the just released schedules were a flat-out statement that the B10 doesn't believe SOS will matter in playoff selection
Hello: Shawn Conway
GBW is reporting Michigan has commit #3, and per Jim Stefani's Twitter feed, it's instate sleeper WR Shawn Conway.
Informative update coming later. Discuss amongst yourselves in the meantime, while you take a look at his highlight.
This isn't necessarily true, 16 players out of Scout's top 100 are already committed. In the 2006 class I think Graham was our first commit, for the 2009 class it was Campbell.
Galileo was also chastised.
and besides how many of those guys are committed to texas? 3 or 4?majority of texas guys commit early(13 this year a week ago). so 12 or 13/100 are committed. obviously there are some guys who commit early to schools they grow up loving but the vast majority of guys dont commit til later in the year.

already knows that it's going to be a small class(probably 18) and they don't offer kids this early unless they know that they're really, really good. In this case, this kid is really, really good.
Michigan has more than one JR day. This is the first JR day of the year and there will be more in the future.
this was actually the 2nd (and last) junior day for michigan. They have a handful of other events that attract recruits but no other junior day.
What the fuck are you talking about? Michigan has 2 or 3 more junior days this spring.
If you think I'm wrong...give me the dates. I can give you the dates and names of the other events that are NOT Junior days, rather football events if you want?
There is a junior day the night before the start of spring practice (either the 12th or the 13th), and there's a BBQ at the Big House, for which I don't think the date is set yet.
the thing before the spring practice is the night of the champions. some recruits are invited yea but its not a junior day. the bbq at the big house is in may and again its a recruiting event but not a junior day. junior days are specifically designated for juniors only. theres also 7on7 tournies and camps, but kids from any grade can come. not trying to beef w/ you here...just defending my original point
Sorry, your original point is wrong.
hahaha alright man, don't let facts get in the way of your convictions. keep it real
Sorry? I don't know what I'm supposed to say here, you're just not right.
No insult intended, but you're just not right.
When we got DJ Williamson's commitment at about this time last year we seemed to be the only one's who thought he's "really, really good". A year later I still don't know anyone outside our coaching staff who shares that opinion.
Galileo was also chastised.
our class size is normal, if not bigger than your typical class(27).
Our '11 class is going to be really, really small so Michigan coaches are more selective with who they offer and how they'll recruit certain players(slowplay them until they land their desire target or recruit them hard).
Looks like we'll have more in-state recruits than normal. Zettel and Beyer are the next likely commits to go along with Greg Brown, Delonte Hollowell and now Sean Conway. That's about 4 in-state players(!!!!) out of 5 committed recruits.
You just criticized Tim for mentioning player successes when "it's too early to cite examples of failure." Then what, exactly, are you trying to say about DJ, a player with 4 more years of eligibility?
I agree that it is too early to designate most of RR's players as as hidden gems or busts, but let's not be hypocritical when trying to bolster your argument.
There's no hypocrisy. I'm saying because he's a 2 star to scout and a low 3 star to Rivals and has no other reported offers, our coaching staff is alone in their opinion of him. I'm not labeling him a failure at all, he may light the world on fire when he gets here for all I know.
Galileo was also chastised.
You can't make the argument that because Williamson didn't receive other offers after he committed that other programs didn't want him. Unless you're some uber super recruit, other schools don't seem to officially offer scholarships to committed players. They may talk to them and try to get them to change their minds but it doesn't seem like it is common to extend a scholarship to them publicly. I may be wrong but I can't think of many articles i've read on Rivals that talk about committed players who receive official scholarships from other schools.

A year later he has yet to play a down of football at Michigan, either. The coaches saw something in him they liked, and who knows what they'll do with that talent?
Stop making stupid arguments.
Okay, how about "5 and 4 star (not start) blue chippers" are determined by third party services looking to make a buck.
Good indicators? Sure.
End all be all? No.
Or try this one.
Its only February. Signing day is almost a year away. This class may look drastically different next winter.
And take note, 2011 rankings arent even out yet, so lets wait on passing judgment via the internet.
This comment sucked. Pretend it was awesome
I like it a lot. This kid is pretty fucking good. He isn't fast, but he has the size/hands/athleticism we are looking for. He will have a Cameron Gordon type situation, with potential to work at multiple positions. My guess is that he begins at safety, but could easily be an Eric Decker type WR.
The way people were bitching about small WR's in the 2010 class, everyone should be walking around with an erection over this kid.
Another player from the Cass Tech pipeline(via Seaholm).
Uh what? Dileo was the only WR in the last class who's under 6'1" according to Rivals. And he's a slot.
Galileo was also chastised.
i decided to insult this person for an unknown reason. it wasn't funny at all, just me being me
No, I based my conclusion on the fact that Decker is a tall wide receiver who uses leaping ability and good hands to compensate for lack of speed. It's obviously not a perfect comparison, but Decker is also considered more of a possession receiver.
Belittling a fellow fan on the internet? You are either 10 years old, or have a very small penis.
My guess is both.
He doesn't look all that fast but he still has some nice moves, especially on the last clip. And his hands are fantastic.
Touchdown Michigan!
I guess I don't really get it either. He does seem to have good hands, but he's pretty slow, and not particularly agile. If it wasn't such a small class I'd understand, but that's what coaches get paid for I guess.

Great ball skills. Goes and gets the ball, uses his body well to shield defenders. Natural talent that clearly hasn't been groomed yet. I see nothing wrong with this offer for an WR or if they bulk him up to 220-225, a smallish TE that could cause some match up problems.
Besides, Michigan has a great track record with tall, big, with below-average speed WR. I believe David Terrell, Marquise Walker, among others, did fairly well. Greg Matthews was never fully utilized last year but it could have been a product of the O-line and protection. Perhaps RR wants another receiver with similar skill sets (but consistantly uses his hands)
Was he at junior day? I guess the other question if this is like the kid last year who committed... oh wait no he didn't.
Either way, welcome to the family!
I know from experience dude. If you know what I mean.
Shawn Conway looks like a young man with a lot of upside; you can't teach size and good hands.
Shawn, welcome to the Michigan family.

I read the comments below before I watched the video. And well, I guess I was expecting to see the world's slowest, average WR. Anyway, perhaps I saw a different video? This kid doesn't seem that slow and he catches everything. I like this commit.
edit: How can a guy be classified as a "super sleeper" in the month of February before his senior year?
i only respect other superfans
and on the punt returns he got caught from behind on each play. he didnt show a lot of wiggle either. on top of this, im sure the competition hes playing against on special teams isnt top end talent. d2 prospects at best. saw issues with that. he doesnt look like hes got a blazing burst coming off the ball.
Hook 'em Horns
Okay, then we definitely saw a different video. I just watched it again to make sure that I wasn't seeing things. But, on almost every single one of his catches he is playing jump ball with a DB right on him (additionally I love, LOVE, the fact that we're getting a tall receiver who isn't fazed by making catches up the middle). I'd think it would be pretty tough to breakaway from a DB when you're in midair. Also, his listed 40 time is 4.5, which is typical for most D1 receivers.
i only respect other superfans
the DB shouldnt be RIGHT on him. plus i dont think that any of the DBs he was going against were d1 talents so he should be running circles around them if he was fast. dont be so enamored with his go-up-and-get-it ability. do u honestly think his 40 time is legit? i doubt a junior in a public highschool has had his 40 electronically timed. do u honestly think 40 time translates to football speed? knoshon moreno ran a 4.62 at the NFL combine. the kids fast as hell on the field. i agree that he can make a catch in traffic and he has a great jumping ability. fact of the matter is that he is slow. and u spelled "fazed" wrong.
Hook 'em Horns
but whatever lol. just a name; main point was he ran a 4.62 40 time.
Hook 'em Horns
No, I'm sure his 40 time has a few fakes in there. I'm not new to this. Also, here's this:
faze (fz)
tr.v. fazed, faz·ing, faz·es
To disrupt the composure of; disconcert.
fazed [feɪzd]
adj
disconcerted; worried; disturbed
So, thanks? And reread your last sentence where you corrected my spelling...C'MON SON!
i only respect other superfans
atak mai speeling becuasee u cnt handel mai arguements. counter arguments are much more fun compared to talking about grammar. ur new to this if u think that hes fast. u said that he runs a 4.5 40 so obviously u gave that some credit.ill throw my own cute little phrase in there at the end: child please
Hook 'em Horns
Alright, this is my last response to you because your posts are dumb. But, dude, you were the one who initially attacked any spelling between our posts. So, don't claim that I attacked your spelling because I cannot handle your arguments.
i only respect other superfans
before i "attacked" ur spelling. shouldnt have done that. sorry. please tho, convince me i enjoy arguing :)
Hook 'em Horns
I can see where you're coming from but at the same time....if spelling wasn't made into such a big fucking deal on this board (we're M fans right? we're TOO GOOD to make that kind of mistake!) then it would be easier to have a legitimate argument about football... it gets old when half of the posts here veer off into...spelling. this isn't class, this is a football forum.
Yeah, I agree. More than anything though I was highlighting the hypocrisy of his posts.
i only respect other superfans
his football arguments don't seem too hypocritical... in theory the idea of all 40 times being relatively fake (and about just as much as fake as each other) is great, but I'm just not seeing it. I doubt 40 times are uniformly faked to each other.
thank you

its just that they arent committing this early. obviously the coaching staff knows wat theyre doing with sleepers - someone else already listed some names - so dont worry about it too much. the kid has fantastic hands, he goes up and plucks the ball out of the air(which u cant teach), and he seems to be able to take a shot.
i hate whoever made his recruiting video. it shows him run the same route over and over again and make a play on the ball. repetition < variety. difficult to evaluate so far but im confident with my assessments on the points i mentioned
