Hello: Freddy Canteen and Brandon Watson
(via Rivals)
Per multiple sources, commitments once again come in pairs. Michigan has picked up pledges from Eastern Christian Academy (Elkton, MD) teammates WR Freddy Canteen and CB Brandon Watson.
Informative post coming once Ace finds electricity. Someone get that man a kite and a key.
I don't know what Stribling's final senior season stats were, but he was pretty darn good as a junior. He didn't exactly come out of nowhere. It's just that he had some really good senior players on the team when he was a junior, so he was overshadowed. His junior stats included 37 tackles, 14 pass breakups, and 6 interceptions. He also had 37 catches for 636 yards and 8 touchdowns.
This isn't conclusive by any means, but from the newspaper articles I found throughout the season, Stribling had 6 receiving touchdowns, 6 interceptions, and a couple return touchdowns as a senior. Overall, he probably had a better statistical season as a senior, but he wasn't too shabby before that, either.
I wasn't saying he was bad before Michigan offered him. I'm saying he didn't have ALL THE STARS when he got offered, showing that we should give the coaches the benefit of the doubt when they offer a guy that the recruting services missed.
He never did get "all the stars." He's been a 3-star ever since the sites initially rated him. According to the recruiting gurus, he's a generic cornerback. It doesn't prove or reinforce anything about the coaches' evaluation abilities.
I get the impression these coaches are really good at (1) spotting talent in the raw and (2) developing raw talent. That's what I think is going on here.
