Hello: Christian Pace

The BBQ has borne its first meaty fruits with the commitment of OH OL Christian Pace. This was going into Tuesday Recruitin' tomorrow but I might as well put it here:

--------

Less definitive but still promising rumors are also swirling around OH OL Christian Pace, a four-star interior lineman who made it up for the BBQ and got the "decision imminent?!?!" question-that-contains-its-own-answer premium article. This from before the BBQ looks like a hint about Pace's interest:

While Pace has yet to name a favorite, it is safe to say he is very interested in Michigan.

A Florida State visit may happen before his commitment; if it doesn't dollars to donuts he picks M.

---------

Think David Molk here: Pace is a solid, mobile interior lineman. He's in the ESPN 150 watch list, is Rivals' #5 center (and a three star), and had good offers: Florida State, Iowa, Illinois, Michigan State, Pitt, South Carolina, and Stanford amongst others. A full google-stalk will have to wait until tomorrow.

Christian Pace at center,

Christian Pace at center, Torrian Wilson at guard, and either Seantrel Henderson or Andrew Donnal at tackle and we're set for '10 OL recruiting. Very pleased at OL recruiting under Rich Rod. It's going to be exciting watching all of these OL recruits develop under Frey and Barwis.

Agreed, completely. For all

Agreed, completely. For all the shit people talk about "spread offense bad for linemen," we've done a great job of picking up very good OL recruits. The three we got last year were all good, and the two that RR himself recruited from the class before appear to be the two best from that class (Omameh and Barnum).

With how important the OL is to winning football games, especially when you are a team so focused on the offense, this bodes very very well for the future at UM. Me likey.

I am not too sure about how

I am not too sure about how these OL recruits are doing under the barwis training. There might be another OL leaving the team pretty soon (won't say who).

On a serious note, I would

On a serious note, I would not be totally shocked if Dann O'Neill decided to transfer after the season if he feels like he is buried on the depth chart.

O'Neill came in as someone

O'Neill came in as someone who was good in pass pro but needed to work on running blocking. Considering our offense runs more than passing, I'm not shocked that he has been trying to move on up through the depth charts.

RR recruiting philosophy:

recruit players that will run an offense with 7 OLs and 4 5'-8" WRs. maybe a QB. if he can run as fast as the 5'-8" WRs. or eat as much as the OLs.

Who has him as a four-start?

Who has him as a four-start? Rivals has him as a three and Scout has him unrated, I think.

Explain

why was Lloyed a bad recruiter? He always got a ton of solid players, just some didn't pan out.

I don't know how you can say RR is a great recruiter when we haven't even seen one of his classes play for 4 years, I'm couting 08' as Lloyds class since he chose most of those players.

Lloyd

was not bad at recruiting. Maybe slipped a little at the end, but he pulled in some great classes.

Kinda agree

I think for certain position groups Carr did a real good job of recruiting - QB, WR and corners in particular. (Although UM never seemed to have two really good corners, they always seemed to have one that was really good).

Other areas I'm not sure how good of job Carr did - safety and LB's mainly. Other then David Harris, the latter half of Carr's tenure didn't exactly have that many great LB's.

I think part of the problem wasn't so much the recruiting, but the development of the players when they got here - oline especially during the latter half of Carr's tenure.

Getting great recruiting classes always helps, but developing and making sure players get better in college is just as important, imo.

Yeah, I would disagree with

Yeah, I would disagree with the "lack of safety and LB recruiting." Brandon Harrison, Steve Brown, Michael Williams, Jamar Adams, Prescott Burgess, and Shawn Crable were all pretty highly recruited. Some of them just didn't/haven't panned out yet...

i will

give you that on player development. Something, somewhere was missing...whether you want to place the blame at the feet of Carr or DeBord and English, there were certainly issues there. My problem with Carr was the acceptance of mediocrity. Michigan became a mediocre football team under Carr. period.
