Hello Again: David Dawson; Hello: Delano Hill Comment Count

Ace

Per Sam Webb, Michigan has picked up two commitments today in Cass Tech teammates David Dawson and Delano Hill. Dawson is a consensus four-star lineman whose commitment to and decommitment from Michigan have been well-covered. Hill is a four-star safety to all but ESPN (three stars) and had previously been committed to Iowa; the Wolverines offered him within the last week.

Informative updates forthcoming.

Just read the decommitment thread. Those of you who talk negative about that kinda stuff really feel dumb now. Kids are 17 years old and deal with pressures most of you haven't. I hope you all learn to shush next time. Feels great to have both of these young men be apart of the Michigan family. GO BLUE! Lets take care of business on the hardwood tonight.

But without naming names, say we fill out the class with 4 or 5 4* (including these 2), even without landing a 5*, what oes that do for our national ranking? I don't care that much, but after the decommits, some jumped off a cliff afraid we'd fill all remaining spots with walk ons when we dropped in the rankings.

Personally I think some people ended up a little too high on the star things.  Hill comes in as a 4* who can play multiple types of DB and Jones comes in as a 3* with a 4.4 that is has the physical tools for WR or DB.  There's nothing wrong with this kind of depth.

For example if we get a pair of lights out safeties from Hill, Clark, Wilson, and Gant, while having a depth issue at RB, that opens the door for Thomas to move to RB where he is damn near a 5* prospect as well.

The other thing to consider is that even if we do get a 5*, injuries happen.  I like how we're bringing in a couple 3*/4* guys who can kind of flow to where the injury strikes and replace depth there.  That's extremely valuable (remember the pain when Avery went down and thus height issues at corner began).

I'm extremely happy about Dawson. Before he decommitted, he was one of the people I thought was going to be great from this class. I was extremely sad when he left, but am not extremely happy that he has recommitted.

The Hill commit is really exciting.  Obvious 40 times vary from camp to camp and service to service, but overall it seems he has elite straightline speed.  Treiu lists his hips flexibility as an issue, but also cites him for having excellent jamming ability.  So being a big old physical corner with lots of speed seems to be in the cards.  I'm excited with how we've brought in some solid talent to cover our bases while we wait to see where a few key five stars drop.

I have a sneaky suspicion that J Lewis and DThomas may end up on offense and we add another DB or two to replace this spots. Just my instincts telling me that since we are not doing so well with Treadwell and not to sure about what LM3 is gonna do. Coaches may have this as a backup plan.

I have a hard time thinking Dymonten goes to offense. If I recall, someone asked Ace who of the 2013 class will have the best YMRMASP. He said Dymonte would get close to a Mark Barron comparison. I think he is going to be a great replacement for Kovacs.

Congratulations to Dawson on the commitment-  for figuring out where he really belonged and being big enough to admit a mistake. And good job to Coach Hoke, even though we were told, "That ship has sailed," he let that ship dock once it returned back to port.
