alternate headline: man does job
There's a press conference scheduled. It's over:
Jim Harbaugh agreed to a five-year, $25 million contract to become the San Francisco 49ers' head coach Friday, according to team and league sources.
The 49ers announced a news conference scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET, but did not indicate the reason.
Commence the wailing and gnashing of teeth.
When I woke up this morning I didn't think I was Bill Murray. Where's Phil? GROUNDHOG DAY circa 2007. Why is this happening again... Commence sobbing in hands...oh and nashing of teeth.
So I'm guessing Kirk will announce in an hour that Les is coming here?
What was all that one in a million talk?
"I haz a sad" kitten here...
I had hope that after the Dolphins meeting that he would come here, but I guess he wanted the NFL all along. $5M a year is ridiculous for an unproven pro coach.
If we do end up with Hoke, it better be for free and not a top of the pack salary.
Oh the dramatic irony that apple autocorrects hoke to joke...
Yeah I've been having the same "problem"...but maybe I should let autocorrect do its thing.
So on South Carolina radio they r convinced that Loeffler is the next in line. Then again they say that RR failed for not being a Michigan Man. Guy seriously said that UM fans would be happy if we went 3-9 with wins over msu, OSU, and ND. Sports radio fail
Haha, "posted from rotary phone"....nice
I'm so over it by now.
Well this sucks. Michigan could have totally matched that offer. Are the 49ers going to take a dive next season to get Andrew Luck?
"... except we don't have an NFL team in Ann arbor."
I for one am glad that it's over, and the Michigan community can move on. He would have been great here, but would have bolted for the NFL eventually.
As much as everyone wants a big name, I for one think Brady Hoke is the man. I have not heard anyone (except the people on this board) say anything bad about him. All I've heard is how great of a coach he is from people who know a lot more about football than I even pretend to know. I live in Columbus and I know that OSU fans were NOT excited when JT was hired. That has worked out pretty well.
I have a family member who was on the Michigan football team from '06 through '01 and has nothing but great things to say about coach Hoke. I for one believe this team does not need some genius crazy football mind as coach. A coach who can inspire and motivate players to excel on the field and in the real world is so important. Hoke will be that guy who cares about young men leaving Michigan and being better members of society. That in turn will lead to wins. That is my opinion.
The major difference between BH and JT is that JT won national championships at other levels, and turned down opportunists at major colleges until a huge job like tOSU came available.
So would Stanford be going after the same guys we would? I confess total ignorance about what kind of guy they'd be trying to hire. To be honest after all I've read here it's not that much clearer to me who WE would be going for.
Contrary to popular belief, and contrary to Lynn Henning's column of 11-26, Michigan was not ever Jim Harbaugh's "Dream Job." Those who continued to assert it, like Henning, never were able to offer a shred of concrete proof in the form of Harbaugh's public statements in support of that notion. They just "knew" Harbaugh felt that way because he was a "Michigan Man," whatever that means.
It was the triumph of hope over reality.
