97.1 brought up Greg Robinson's name as DC. How serious should we take this name? Also, how good of a hire would that be if we got him?
His name is actually "Gerg".
bunch of good info in earlier post about DC movement.
1. at least 20 names have been thrown around for the DC job. right now anyone can get it and i wouldn't put too much stock into it all. my advice is just wait til RR actually hires someone.
2. if we do get greg robinson he wouldn't be a bad coordinator. some guys make great coordinators but horrible HC's (i.e., cam cameron).
Greg Robinson's resume as a DC is really good. He is also aggressive which are defense needs.
How is his resume as a DC "good"? Here it is:
1 Year with the Jets. Defense ranked 14th in PPG.
6 Years in Denver w/ defenses ranked 17th, 7th, 6th, 10th, 11th, 23rd
3 Years in Kansas City, when their defense was the laughing stock of the NFL - ranked 23rd, 28th, 28th, and he was fired.
1 Year at University of Texas, where he posted decent numbers (28th ranked defense nationally) against a weak schedule (they played 2 teams that finished the season ranked).
He has demonstrated NO ability to recruit (witness Syracuse, a perrenially solid team start losing 2-stars to FCS schools), and hasn't coached an "elite" defense in his life, despite being a coordinator for 11 years.
I wouldn't be upset w/ him as DC.
Seriously. His resume speaks for itself.
Also he apparently doesn't drink or swear, which WTF dude you're a defensive coordinator. If you aren't taking slugs of bourbon on third and three and calling your charges everything in the book, GTFO.
and select Casteel. Probably who he really wants anyhow.
Casteel isn't coming.
Why don't people realize this?
Jeff Casteel was offered and turned the job down according to Rivals about a month ago.
Irrelevant, Jay. Obviously, he should go to Morgantown, kill Casteel's wife and children, shove him into the back of a rental car, and bring him back to Ann Arbor. It's that easy.
It has been widely reported (or at least unverified voracity has been stated to the effect) that Casteel was offered D coordinator when RR left WVU and probably again this year but that he does not want to leave Morgantown for family reasons.
