Boom, roasted. GS just got fisked by this guy.
Genuinely Sarcastic: OWNED
God, now Sparty is jumping on the "understands the rivalry" bandwagon? WHAT THE FUCK IS THERE TO UNDERSTAND? IT'S TWO SCHOOLS IN THE SAME STATE. THERE I EXPLAINED IT. I know WVU is a shithole, but if RichRod can't understand that, he's functionally retarded. Which I doubt.
EDIT: Just for shits and giggles, I decided to see how far Dantonio grew up from the Michigan border compared with RR. Only about 100 miles difference. Dantonio grew up pretty close to the West Virginia border, FWIW.
Because your name shows no bias.
He didn't think anyone would figure it out.
Credit where credit is due, they were huge in the mid 60's.
So was Charlie Weis
They had two Rose Bowl wins, and they weren't eligible for the Rose Bowl until the 1953 season. From 1950-52, just prior to that, they had two undefeated seasons and a one-loss season.
The perfect example of sparty...Plaxico Burress, superstar, oops i shot myself, unemployed. I feel like he sums up sparty. They haven't won the big ten since i'v been alive(22). They have moments, then they fade and fall off. I hold them at the same regard as Northworstern, actually I take that back, worstern has won a few BTT since I was born. Sparty fans should never speak unless spoken to, and even then should be very humble about the asperations. You haven't beat us back to back in half a century, haven't won any titles in the last couple decades, your at the indiana, purdue leval historically. If you weren't instate you couldn't give me one way we are rivals,Adopted little sisters.
what a disaster
The Other Brian knows enough that he could argue against every point that guy made. That guy's an idiot.
Other Brian, I say you get him in a Cover it Live showdown.
Get Brian to do it.
The cycle continues...
I think my favorite line is "We cling to results." Actually I think Sparty clings to my asscheek every time I sit down over a toilet, but I digress. Since when has getting their ass kicked year after year ever caused Sparty to care about results?
I'm from the same town as Dantonio; Zanesville, Ohio. It is four and a half hours to Ann Arbor. It is one hour west of wheeling WV, and north of Parkersburg WV. It is an hour and a half from Marion county WV, which is where my RR, and coincidently my grandma grew up, and is the general vicinity of Morgantown/ WVU. There is no difference in the way Dantonio and Rodrigues percieve the rivarly because they're both from appa mother fuckin lachia. Dantonio grew up knowing more about the buckeyes and wolverines rivalry than RR, but it is not like the dude has an inherent advantage, or some secret michigan coaching know how, because he grew up an hour closer to the state than RR. That entire post was bullshit, and the guy really did absolutely nothing but defend Dantonio for being a smug prick.
BUT HE WAS AN ASSISTANT UNDER NICK SABAN... who was from West Virginia.
How is this "owned"?
Almost all of his "roasting" was opinionated vile.
that old redcedar87 posts then doesn't dare back up his claim with another post so that he won't be subject to a negbang (I think that was accepted term). Come on redcedar. Come take your medicine.
Notice the subtle difference here...I didn't go to the RCMB and post my GS piece...didn't go to any MSU blog or site...I didn't even go out of my way to promote it here or at any other UM sites...and yet a Spartan feels the need to come to a Michigan blog and puff up his chest. Hmmm.
Oh, and if you really think the point of my piece was to point out that MSU fans are obsessed with Michigan (as you implied in the first paragraph)...then wow, did it go over your head.
... you posted this, here:
"On the overall scope of instate recruiting, I covered basically everything mghorm talked about in the hit piece I've been composing at GS...I'm just hesitant to put it out there, because it doesn't pull any punches and I don't feel like waking up with a wolverine's head in my bed. Still debating it."
Bad lie. Also, someone posted the link to your article here. I thought I'd do the same for this guy's response.
Testing the waters to see if there was any interest =/= promoting one's work. If I had wanted to do that, I would've come over here and started a topic with a witty title like, "Spartan Nation: OWNED".
And yet he didn't feel the need to go to the RCMB and post it. I don't know what made you decide to go to Michigan fan site and declare Michigan fans pwned with a linked article, but it's a loser move.
"And yet he didn't feel the need to go to the RCMB and post it. I don't know what made you decide to go to Michigan fan site and declare Michigan fans pwned with a linked article, but it's a loser move."
I didn't "go to Michigan fan site" and address all Michigan fans; I addressed it to the guy who self-promoted his own blog here. (http://mgoblog.com/diaries/state-recruiting-0) Don't take it so personally.
I didn't "go to Michigan fan site" and address all Michigan fans; I addressed it to the guy who self-promoted his own blog here.
Saying you didn't address your post to "all Michigan fans" when you started a new board topic about it (as opposed to say, simply responding to post that allegedly prompted your entry) is not just disingenuous, it's stupid.
I didn't "go to Michigan fan site" and address all Michigan fans; I addressed it to the guy who self-promoted his own blog here.
You are on a Michigan fan site and you referred to GS in the third person. So neither of your assertions is true. If you wanted to address him without bringing the rest of us into it, why didn't you email him the link instead?
Not only that, but he subtlely editted his original post to add the "GS just got fisked by this guy" part. He wasn't "addressing" this to anybody, he was just trolling.
This was the image that was supposed to be linked.
I hate to even give this any pageviews, but after the first paragraph, where Brian tells US, as Michigan fans, that we're just as obsessed with them as they are with us, does the MSU author interpret it as completely the reverse, or is that just me?
Also, a few hilarious. . .nevermind. I'm reading more into it and none of it makes much coherent sense. It's just. . .awful. All the talk about "spin". . .
I don't know. He makes some good points. I mean, after a number of the original poster's claims, he responds with, "You don't know that." It's pure gold, really. That, and Spell Check.
Nah, the best parts are (and this is kind of mean to pick on, but it was just so amusing) when Brian says things like "Devin Gardner was Michigan's number one target. Gardner is from Inkster, which is in Michigan." and the other author says, "You don't know that." He says the same thing after something about Cullen Christian, and it sounds like he's just an agnostic, geographically speaking.
I'm glad the M-MSU game is early in the season this year, if for no other reason than we can stop listening to all of this BS coming from East Lansing. This will be especially true after we beat them.
It's a simple, really: we are going to dominate them in the trenches on both sides of the ball. Everything else will fall into place.
n. pl. ri·val·ries
1. The act of competing or emulating
The entire series record is 67-28-5 in Michigan's favor.
Where is the act of competing?
Yeah, but 99 of those games happened before 2008! You want to cling to ancient history?!
"Rodriguez’s track record has been impressive. But what is a track record when applying it to a new environment? Pittsburgh and Rutgers don’t exactly compare to Penn State and Ohio State.
As for the head-to-head matchups, Mark Dantonio will never again be on such an uneven playing field in terms of the talent between West Virginia and Cincinnati
As for the head-to-head matchups, Mark Dantonio will never again be on such an uneven playing field in terms of the talent between West Virginia and Cincinnati."
What?? Did he not recruit those players to crappy Morgantown? Plus, doesn't Ohio have better players?
This article has a lot of "spin".
Anyone read the coments? They are funny.
I was absolutely dumbfounded by the same comment.
WVU was a complete joke when Rich Rod took over. He went head to head with Dantonio, got better players (this is where we compare gardner and boisture or nick hill/austin white), and he crushed him on the field.
This idiot spends half of his post talking about recruiting and how Dantonio is a great recruiter, then says that dantonio only lost because of the difference in talent between WVU and Cinci. Are you truly that oblivious to WHY there was a difference in talent at the 2 schools? (HINT: RECRUITING)
That blog post honestly looked like something I would expect one of my spartan friends to post on my facebook page. "You don't know that"
WVU was NOT terrible when Rich Rod took over. Don Nehlen transformed the Mountaineers into a respectable football program and had a career record of 202-128-8 in his twenty-one seasons as head coach. I don't know where you got the idea that WVU was a "complete joke" before RR got there, but, it's simply not true.
A complete joke? In the interest of fairness, that's untrue. They had gone 7-5 and were only a few years removed from title contention under Don Nehlen. Let's not degrade one of Bo's best assistants for the glorification of RichRod.
Actually did not know that, but I still stand by what I said otherwise. It's not like RR had access to some recruiting hot bed @ WVU. He just out recruited and outcoached dantonio.
The difference in resources in WVU/Cinci, IMO, are nothing compared to the difference in resources that Dantonio now faces in the MSU/UM match. So for him to say that Dantonio will never be on that much of an unlevel playing field again is baseless and probably untrue.
RR had already won a Big East title at WVU before Dantonio even coached a game for Cinci. You can also add in that Cincinnati had just recently joined the Big East and that WVU is historically more successful than UC.
I'm not saying that Rodriguez didn't outcoach or outrecruit Dantonio (I wouldn't know; I didn't watch the games, and beating =/= outcoaching), but I do think that it should be obvious that the two men were on a fairly uneven playing field.
WVU has had quite a knack for finding good coaches. Bowden, Nehlen and Rodriguez in football, Beilein and Huggins in basketball. And with the exception of Huggins, none of these guys was a proven commodity when they hired him.
I couldn't bring myself to check out your link. It would be like going to the shitter at Popcopy© just to read the bathroom walls.
While that blog post was poorly written and not very informative, I also thought The Other Brian's post was a bit homer-ish.
It's difficult to get unbiased opinions about Michigan football from people who actually know what they're talking about. That's why I'm hoping the Adam Rittenberg/Big Ten blog on ESPN.com works out.
This constant sniping back and forth with MSU is getting old. Some of us are making a bigger deal about it than there should be. We won a bunch of games in a row. They won one. It's difficult to argue with facts.
Now...can we please see fewer posts about MSU in the forum? Frankly, I don't give a shit about them.
Your just like RR. You just don't understand the rivalry.
Thank you, Magnus.
Other Brian is smart. This guy is stoopid.
It must be still painful to Cedar boy that he got rejected by Michigan and HAD to goto State. Unlike the rest of us who still get to root for the same team we did growing up!
There are no requirements beyond a pulse for rooting for a team. I didn't go to Michigan but I have remained a life-long Michigan fan.
The OP also "clings to results." Because 2008 is the only year in recent history in which results were put forth. Dantonio is 1-0 vs U of M
Rich Rod did not show good results with Lloyd Carr's Pro Set offensive players, therefore he will never show good results. I mean all we can really cling to is the past results, not indications of how the offense will be with his own players.
Furthermore, OP claims we can blame the games we "should have won" (toledo, purdue, NW) on Rich Rod. Because you know it was RR, not Threet, who threw a 105 yd pick 6 that accounted for over half of Toledo's points the entire game. And it is also RR's fault that Carr did not provide him with a kicker that was capable of hitting a 30 yd field goal to send it to OT. He should have went for the TD! DUH!
And against Purdue, RR cost us that game because Schafer put in a new defensive scheme 20 seconds before the game that gave up 48 points. It's not like RR fired Schafer or something, RR totally agreed with Schafer and therefore we shall blame him!
Compare this Sparty post to the type of quality blog post's you get from the 2 Brian's and it tells you all you need to know about MSU vs. Michigan.
I didn't write the article. I just linked it.
Actually, it was Rich Rod himself who went into the Monday afternoon meetings the week of the Purdue game and TOLD Shafer that they would be implementing the 3-3-5 "Stack" defense against Purdue. It was not Shafer's choice to do so. He was following the orders of the head coach.
I don't know where you got that information, I assumed Schafer was responsible for the defense given he was the Defensive Coordinator. But the bottom line is that if RR felt Schafer wasn't to blame for the defensive struggles then he wouldn't have fired him.
When your head coach orders you to switch your defensive scheme, you do so. That's exactly what Shafer did.
You have a lot of learning to do.
A defensive coordinator does not put in a brand new defense unless the head coach suggests/approves it. And considering the fact that Shafer had never run a 3-3-5 stack before that game, whose idea do you think it was - Shafer's or the guys who had just come from WVU where they ran the 3-3-5 stack?
are you the guy who writes for that blog? I guess this will get you some Google Ad money then.
That has had a record of 30-9 in favor of the Wolverines since 1970, it becomes a little harder for Sparty fans to pretend the rivalry is as competitive as Michigan's rivalries with ND and OSU without being accused of "living in the past."
Irony: isn't that what *we're* accused of?
Let's go to Cedar Point
Redcedar87 somehow accumulated enough points to post a forum topic. We have gotten lazy, and must hone our senses in order to identify trolls much sooner.
Remember 8/9/09, the day we let the Michigan nation down. Never again.
As a Spartan, even he was glad The ES was cut from the BlogPoll, which gave him like 25 points, and might I add fully justified.
Clearly he was careful to gain our trust before turning on us.
Til, October 3, this is all silly Reindeer Games.....Talk is cheap.......
I trust everything in the world will be righted on October 4,
we will hear the usual from Lansing..
"WAIT UNTIL BASKETBALL SEASON....."
However, Coach B and the boys will have something to say about that....
I was doing yard work, and just realized the symbolism of Red Cedar Mulch....
Step up to the Cypress, you'll never go back.
Jabberwock, loud and clear.....still love the avatar, makes me smile every time.
Hm, I just noticed that there are a couple pages discussing this over at the RCMB. And at SpartanMag, there is a thread (on their premium board) titled "UM Fan to the Spartan Nation: 'We will bury you' (Link)". That's reached multiple pages too.
I'm going to go out on a limb and assume they aren't nominating me for a Pulitzer.
Poor effort. He never once said that Other Brian needs a haircut. Lame.
No, redcedar, you WISH he was fisked. JollyGreenGiant wrote a reaction if anything, not a counterargument refuting GS's statement. Besides, he largely agreed with a bunch of GS's points (mainly the ones about the Michigan fanbase--go figure). JGG didn't really say anything that really blew GS's argument out of the water. And it certainly wasn't a roast--do you even know what a roast is??
Judging by what was called the roast of Joan Rivers last night, there were far too few references GS being the offspring of andy dick and a horse. But the drunken Tom Arnold making no sense style was spot on.
that this "fisker" made no mention of what I thought was the real meat of the GS piece - the systematic dismantling of the "Rodriguezized" thread.
For example, I'm still waiting for an explanation as to how Will Campbell has been "Rodriguezized" when he's ON THE TEAM!
Is that a Mobb Deep reference, sir?
I stole it from an episode of Cheap Seats where they were making fun of the National Spelling Bee and they gave the nickname to a particularly tiny Indian boy.
Maybe I should've just said yes - getting it from Mobb Deep sounds cooler. Oh well.
