Final Elite 11 Rankings

Barry Every of Rivals just released his final rankings of the Elite 11 and Devin Gardner was ranked number 1. It's behind a paywall so I won't write everything but he says that Gardner will eventually have the ability to take over a game like Jason Campbell, Vince Young and Pryor.

Other rankings of note: #3 Robert Bolden, #12 Joe Boisture

You also haven't seen Gardner exhibit that ability at the college level. Comparing Gardner to Pryor physically or athletically makes sense to me. Saying someone has that physical ability is one thing. Saying they will do it is another matter entirely. Pryor has the physical tools and talent available to take over a game. This is what scouts are referring to when they say Gardner resembles Pryor.

I still believe he would be hyped IMO. Guys saying he's over-rated sound dangerously like homers to me. The kid was a true freshman and as such, played quite well. I also think it's pretty obvious that he has a high level of talent, and the Vince Young comparisons are not far-fetched in any way. If he can progress strongly as a passer, as Young did (who was terrible passing his freshman year) he will be freaking dangerous.

Pryor proved he can take over a game ... or at least lead a game winning drive on the road (Wisconsin). He just hasn't proven he can do it consistently ... or even throw the ball straight consistently. I think he meant he has the ability to take over a game or maybe has the same freakish athleticism.

There is little I can stand less at the moment than when OSUsters talk about how great TP is, when he hasnt proven shit. He has a lot of athletic ability. They have to be going off of the hype machine and the HS #1 rating he got to think he's that great but yet when you say, as a wolverine said on bucknuts, that Gardner is better than Taylor Graham they say "How do you figure that he is better? Graham is light years ahead of Gardner in passing ability."

I will say one thing for Campbell, though - he has handled the qb debacle in Washington with class and dignity, something Cutler cannot claim. When the Redskins went after Cutler and then Sanchez, Campbell remained loyal to the team and showed up at offseason workouts all the time. When his teammates asked him why he was still showing up, he said that he's still the quarterback of the team and until someone tells him different, he's going to continue to work hard and not let his teammates down. If Gardner's character is like that, then I am damn glad to have him compared to Jason Campbell.

Also something to note - when he was in college, he had a different offensive coordinator every year and he still put out decent numbers and even led Auburn to an undefeated season. Again, I would be very, VERY happy if Garnder does this for us as well.

Either way - I'm damn excited for this kid.

Sounds like we might have 3 good QB's fighting for playing time after 2010. Tate showed his stuff in the Spring Game. Denard has "really nice zing on the ball - that, coupled with his athleticism, should make him pretty scary." Now DG blows up the Elite 11 camp. After having zero quality QBs in 2008, this will be a welcome change. Now I'm really fired up for the future of UM football.

This is great. I knew DG was a good player, but after following his recruitment and camp appearances, count me in as being very excited to see him on campus.

That being said, I hope he redshirts a year to work on learning the entire offense and his mechanics. This kid could be very dangerous under center for us. I hope he turns into an Armenti Edwards/Dennis Dixon/Juice Williams type player (I'm sick of the Vince Young comparisions so I figured I'd offer something different).

I'm liking the Dennis Dixon comparison.

Tall, fast, big arm, more lengthy than stocky, around same body size

comparison is that Dixon only had one good year at Oregon - his senior yr. Dixon was the starting QB his junior year and halfway through the year got demoted to second string.

but every time I see him throw with his weird side-arm mechanics is brings back memories of Navarre pegging O-linemen in the back of the head. I hope he is really able to finesse his throwing abilities this season.

I know I have seen this posted here before, but event though he is 'committed,' DG cannot work out with any trainers until he officially arrives on campus, right?

I'm assuming you mean Michigan trainers not just trainers in general. I don't think he would be able to work out with them but I can guarantee that he at least can get his hands on the workout or some sort of beginners course to the workouts to get a head start. I'd be mildly surprised if all the recruits didn't actually.

so looking past the DG praise, does this mean boisture might be taking a fall in the rankings sometime? i mean i know he was the 12th best out of 12 great QBs but isn't he supposed to be a top 5 pocket passer who's at a camp that seems to cater to pocket passers? seems to not bode well for his ranking

that he's a pretty damn fine QB. Say, I just started following recruiting when RR got hired. When's the last time we had an Elite 11 QB? What's our history there.
