Fan Day Tomorrow
As I'm sure most Michigan fans know by now, tomorrow is the team's annual fan day. Fans will have the opportunity to meet the players, get autographs (one per trip through the line, mind you), and this year, see the inside of the Al Glick Fieldhouse as they wait in line for an autograph from fearless leader. Anyway, MGoBlue drops the details:
The event is free and open to the public. Fans will be allowed to enter the autograph area starting at 12:30 p.m. Parking will be available in the Blue Lot surrounding Crisler Arena. Fans can enter the area through the southwest entrance (just over the railroad tracks) or through the northeast entrance (main softball entrance)...
Michigan players will be signing autographs inside Al Glick Field House and Oosterbaan Fieldhouse. Coach Rodriguez will be signing autographs inside Glick Field House, near the entrance to Schembechler Hall. There will be inflatable items and games for kids on the outdoor practice field.
Sounds like much more of an event than in past years (and if you followed my writings at Varsity Blue, you know I'm very much in favor of this), and should be a fun time for fans who can make it out. It's also the first chance to purchase the "All-in for Michigan" towel, pictured above:
Towels purchased at Fan Day are $5. Towels will be sold for $6.99 after Fan Day at the M Go Blue Shop, The M-Den, Moe Sport Shops, Dunham’s Sporting Goods, Dicks Sporting Goods, area Meijer stores, and The Pizza House on U-M’s campus. A portion of the proceeds from each towel will benefit the campaign to build a new University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital and Women’s Hospital.
I encourage any Michigan fans who have the opportunity to attend this event tomorrow afternoon.
For anyone that has ever attended one of these before...
Do they provide you with anything on which you can get autographs (i.e., a program or a poster) or do you have to bring your own materials?
TIA

I may just make the roadie for this one. Just need to find a few people willing to split the ride from GR.
Fan Day is an awesome idea. It's like church, only better!

Good lord, another instance of Rodriguez having a tin ear for PR. Thanks to Jim Carty for pointing that out for all of us, otherwise we might come to the mistaken conclusion that there hasn't been a more PR-friendly Michigan head coach since Fielding Yost.
I wished I lived in Ann Arbor again. For those of you that do, please do not take it for granted. So many exciting changes are happening. I'm sure there are some of you that have complaints about what is happening in A2. Look at it this way, you could be a badger, boilermaker or a hoosier. I'm ordering a towel and hanging it in my room dedicated to The Michigan Wolverines and Michigan sports.
It is great to be a Michigan Wolverine!!!

That sounds pretty awesome, hopefully I can be able to make it.
So those towels are $6? I thought Rita was all over giving those out for free at the games? Maybe she's working on some cheetah print ones that are bedazzled.
BOOM RITA'D
No question, Jim.

I don't like the towels? Why are we doing this gimmicky shit?
I don't see it as a gimmick. It is a fundraiser for the Children's Hospital. You get something for your donation.
For games, sometimes you have try new stuff and see if it works. It could be the start of a tradition of 112,000 plus fans waving them at games. Then you'll see something that has not been seen at Michigan. If it is stupid the fans won't do anything with them.
When the students started wearing maize t-shirts who thought it could lead to Maize Outs? A gimmick now a great tradition. Even though Michigan was not the first team to have towels (The 1970's Steeler's Terrible Towels), who says UM fan can't reinvigorate the idea? Who cares if other schools are doing it. Michigan fans will do it better.

I guess I can live with the towel, however unoriginal it is.
My chief complaint is that is does not match the color of the maize-out shirts. It is more of an Iowa yellow-gold.
If they are going to do it, do it right.

I agree. I'll just give an extra 5 bucks to Dance Marathon this year and rock the more-useful, less-lame Go Blue for Mott's scarf.

Fan day seems like it gets 1000 times better every year. I remember the first time I went I got 2 signatures, I think 5 years ago when it was on the field and you had to wait in lines for individual players. I'm glad to see the program opening up for the fans more each year.
