Looks like the event will go from 1-3 PM.
Fan Day is August 23rd
Has anyone here ever been? Are there a lot of people?
Supposedly the best strategy is to get the autographs of the new guys every year after getting in line early for one of the big older guys that you never got earlier (Minor, Warren, Graham, etc).
But that was in the LC era and also not after a 3-9 season so it might not be as bad (but the spring game was also the biggest ever... so??)
Yeah, there are a lot of people. The longest lines will obviously be for RR, the QB's (everybody will be after Forcier and Denard autographs), and the RB's. Unless you get there early as hell, you're probably not gonna be able to make it through more than one of those lines.
My plan will be to try to get through one of those and then maybe go through one or two of the Defensive groups (I'm wondering how long the line will be for the D-Line b/c of Campbell).
I hope they give Barwis a table this year -- his autograph was the one I wanted most last year but they didn't have him set up anywhere.
It was lower-key and you could get a whole bunch of guys' autographs (maybe even the majority of the team).
Now you've got to pick your line early and hope you're happy with the 2-3 guys at the table you get.
Its great that it is a party for the fans and a generally great experience, but the massive increases in attendance in the last 5 or so years have really changed things.
In my experience, you can rack up a lot of contact with the freshmen / relative unknowns that people don't recognize if you take the long view - they used to just sort of float around and you could talk to them / whatever. Of course, as recruiting attention has picked up, no one is an unknown anymore, really...
Favorite moments from media days past:
- My buddy asked LaMarr Woodley if he played the NCAA video games and his response was "Yeah, I dominate that all the time."
- Realizing that Gabe Watson's bicep was bigger than my leg, and he was only a freshman at the time.
Great! Thanks for the update.
I might try to get there this year
