Michigan is in the market for a new offensive assistant. FoxSports's Bruce Feldman reports that passing game coordinator and QB/WR coach Jedd Fisch will be UCLA's next offensive coordinator.

It was only a matter of time before Fisch climbed the ladder. He joined Jim Harbaugh's first Michigan staff after a two-year stint as offensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Due in part to circumstances beyond his control, he's never spent more than two years at the same job since 2007, when he finished off a three-year assistant stint with Baltimore before working his way up the coaching ranks with the Denver Broncos, Minnesota (B1G), Seattle Seahawks, Miami (YTM), and Jacksonville.

Harbaugh will have some flexibility with his next hire because of his ability to handle the quarterbacks himself if need be. He could look for someone from his coaching tree; Greg Roman, Harbaugh's offensive coordinator for the 49ers who's looking for a new gig after an abbreviated stint in Buffalo, is already being put out there as a potential candidate, though his specialties (OL and TE) overlap with Tim Drevno's. If Harbaugh desires a more passing-oriented coach, he could go for a coach without a previous connection to him; that worked out rather well when he took Fisch two years ago.

Fisch played a big role in Jake Rudock's remarkable in-season development in 2015 and had plenty of input as a playcaller the last two seasons. We'll always have "good shit, Jedd":

Fisch will now get to work with a potential #1 draft pick in UCLA QB Josh Rosen. Best of luck to him.

good for fisch - as much as i respect drevno, i wouldve rather seen fisch retained and bumped to OC and lost drevno if that were a choice.  fisch is a sharp coach (not that drevno isnt).  not to mention i dont really like jim mora

I don't fully understand this move.  Is it really "climbing the ladder" to go from what he is doing to offensive coordinator at UCLA?  He was partially an OC at Michigan and he has already been an OC at Jacksonville, was he not?  And to to go UCLA right now?  Under Mora?  I just don't understand this.

Unlike Harbaugh, Mora Jr is a Defensive Specialist who gives his OC almost total control of the offense.  Josh Rosen + a NFL-ready playbook = magic.  Plus, recruiting trips don't involve overnight stays in LA, and if Rosen likes Fisch, he may bring Fisch with him to his first NFL gig, similar to what Andrew Luck did with Pep Hamilton, his OC at Stanford.

I'm the world's worst lip reader.

"Good shit, Jed"?

Love it!

Sorry to lose his talents - another byproduct of the Harbaugh machine.  NFL pipeline, and coaching tree.  Happiest problems to have.

If the Don Brown hire is any indication, I have no doubt that Harbaugh will actually IMPROVE the coaching at this position. I liked Jeff Fisch, but Harbaugh knows 17 other guys in the NFL just like him. In Harbaugh we trust! GO BLUE!!!

Why do so many people comment about how much they will miss him/are glad he's gone but spell his name "Jeff" or "Jed" instead of correctly (Jedd)? A) I don't believe that you care that much and B) read.

Am I the only one who thought the passing game sort of under-performed this year?  I thought it was better last year but maybe thats the difference between Rudock and Speight.  I thought Darboh came along well but wasn't too effective at the end of the year and the other night.  It didn't help that Butt got hurt.  And to me it seemed liek Chesson disappeared this year.  I thought he was phenomenal last year and would be one of the best players in the country in 2016.

Also would've liked to see Peppers line up as a receiver and/or throw a pass out of the wildcat from time to time.
