Today in worst-kept secrets:

A source with knowledge of the situation has confirmed to CFT that Green received a release from his UM scholarship earlier this week and will transfer out of the Wolverines football program.

Green split time early in his career, alternating frustrating cuts with promising footwork and power as he attempted to slim back down from 250-260 pounds. He did that but the vision never came and when Harbaugh came in he fell out of the rotation in favor of De'Veon Smith, Drake Johnson, Ty Isaac, Karan Higdon, and Sione Houma. A fullback in front of you on the depth chart is never good. Green was left home from the bowl with an "internal matter," and that seemed to be that.

He's got one year left and also graduated in 3.5 years, so he can play immediately. Michigan now has 20 officially open slots; Green's departure was certainly part of the existing reckoning for Michigan's class size and won't increase how many scholarships Michigan has to play with. We currently figure that is 28-30.

It's quite refreshing/awesome to see that while we're losing players and it sucks in general, those who are leaving have graduated. Even if they didn't pan out on the football field, they're still going to have that Michigan Degree, which should be motivation #1 or 2 for choosing to play football at Michigan. Here's hoping that he Thomas Rawls-s himself and ends up in the NFL

I was so pumped when he committed. And he is fun to snap. But on the field he never lived up to my high hopes. It's not over for him yet though. Good luck DG !

...we were getting Green after having to see V Smith get blown up over and over. I thought to myself, those days are over once we get Green. I thought we may be able to manball our rivals a little more. Well, obviously that didn't quite happen. In retrospect he was likely was overrated due to his size mismatch in high school. Still hope the young man sees success somewhere else.

In the admittedly short time I've closely followed Michigan recruiting (late Rich Rod Era to the present), I can't remember a recruit I was more excited about landing, other than of course Peppers. Feel bad it didn't work out for him here but hope he can land someplace where he is able to shine.

this is the kind of sentence that makes me very, very happy.  he didn't turn out to be the football stud i hoped he would, but being an academic stud at u of m is a fantastic second alternative.

congrats to him on his michigan degree, and i wish him the best.

To me he was a guy who looked the part but who struggled doing running back things, for lack of a better way to put it. He didn't make people miss or run through people or, as noted, see the field well. He and Mike Hart make an interesting comparison as far as what does and does not equal a successful running back. That said, I hope a lightbulb goes off for him and that he does well. Having a Michigan degree is a pretty good consolation prize even if he doesn't.

My buddy is a Florida guy.  He told me last night that Green started following all of the Florida coaches on Twitter. I don't have twitter. Can't confirm.  Seems like an odd landing place

  1. Workhorse senior Kelvin Taylor graduating
  2. Nuss
  3. FL RS SO RB transferred out
  4. Only 2 RBs on roster

Makes sense

From Aug 2015....

Florida lacks depth at running back: The Gators were already entering the season with only four scholarship players at the position. With Lane now gone, Florida is down to three -- Taylor and a pair of four-star freshmen in Jordan Scarlett (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and Jordan Cronkrite (Miami, Fla). Early returns from fall practice have Scarlett and Cronkrite both flashing; one will now have to push forward and lock up the No. 2 job behind Taylor. McElwain said he plans to use three running backs in every game, which is now exactly as many as Florida has on scholarship this season.

I can't believe he's been around long enough to graduate already.  Seems like he just got here.  Sorry it didn't work out, hope he tears it up wherever his next stop is.

if he graduates in the spring, it will be 3 years not 3.5 years as stated in Brian's piece. Green did not enroll early..if you recall his first appearance was when he showed up for fall camp out of shape.
