rundown of Michigan's riser
Exit Chris Rock (Not That Chris Rock)
You will be surprised to find out which of these men is Chris Rock, or at least you would if you didn't know already.
Redshirt-freshman-to-be Chris Rock, he of the name that looks almost exactly like former Wisconsin basketball player Kammron Taylor, has left the program.
Rock hadn't played yet (obviously) and didn't make much impact in spring, so the departure shouldn't affect Michigan's projected performance in 2012 unless things get ugly at the three-tech spot. And since there are a couple of large incoming freshmen who may have beaten Rock out, this could be a writing on the wall type of scenario. Rock's star fell precipitously after his commitment to Michigan, something his recruiting profile acknowledged. He was a developmental guy, and if he wasn't developing meaningful wink wink ellipsis goes here…
The previous assumption of 20 open spots given fifth year non-renewals now moves to 21. Michigan was probably going to take two SDE/3tech guys unless they pulled a star secondary recruit out of nowhere, so priorities don't really shift. Expect 1 RB, 1 WR, 2-3 DL, and maybe that secondary guy with Michigan's six-ish remaining spots.
At the beach people yell "Shark Shark" but it's just Chris Rock doing the backstroke.

or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.
That is an uncanny resemblance.
Here's hoping for a bright future. This team does try hard and I will continue to support them.
Best of luck to Chris on his academic and athletic future (unless and until the latter is against us, of course) .
Rock will be the first shoe to drop during the summer semester of 2012. there will be more, including, if history holds, incoming freshmen. it happens every year and it's why people like Brian project a class 5-6 larger than the available scholarships extant.
All the gnashing about recruiting class rankings is hot air before we see the roster in the middle of August. Remember Chris Barnett just last year? Austin White? Antonio Kinard and Conelius Jones? Witherspoon and Hill in 2008?
Shit happens. This is not to bait a discussion of which players are on the outs, just to say they're there and we won't know who they are until the fall. And there will be more.
since 2008 (when I started following recruiting), but I have to work in the morning and don't wanna be up typing all night.

How many people would have killed for the chance. It might not have worked out quite the way he envisioned it, but he was still here. Good luck!
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift
Do you think his name is short for Christian?

Has the whole world gone CRAZY!?!
Wish him the best - I know everyone says this is empty, but most people mean it. I'm sure he'll land somewhere where he'll feel better opportunities exist.
Excuse my ignorance on the subject, but does this effect APR?

Screw Lance.
If I had to a chance to play on the Michigan team, I would work as hard as possible for playing time but if some of my more talented team mates pushed ahead of me, I would be happy playing hard on the practice team. I do understand his desire to get more playing time and I hope he finds the right team.
expect the best
Agreed. If I had the chance to be a little minnow in the big BLUE Ocean that is Michigan, or a big fish in some brackish marsh, I’d be a minnow.
From the home of the Tournament of Roses
Like most of these cases, we don't really know all the reasons the guy is leaving. It could have to with playing time, but there are a lot of other possibilities as well.
I wish him the best of luck.
When I was in school there were days that I wished I were somewhere...anywhere else. Why? Finals. Girls. The dump I may have been living in. Whatever. But you wake up in the morning and the semester is paid for and the lease is signed and you gotta finish school and U of M is your best option and you're already there. So you stick it out and lo...things get better. These kids are different in that they have the option of another schollie that may come with actual playing time somewhere else. So that temporary desperation to escape for whatever reason also comes with a path to get out
Or maybe he just saw he wasn't gonna get to play.
Good luck to him.
We're gonna play with toughness, we're gonna be responsible and we're gonna play with toughness. This is Michigan.
this story isn't freaking people out like it's freaking me out. This is our THINNEST position on the entire team, and one of our projected starters is busy eating fifty pizzas a day to bulk up into a three technique! I realize we have frosh coming in to save the day, but they are frosh. That's scary to me, and Chris looked decent holding up the line in the spring game. He was one of three interior DL who stood out to me when I was in the stands that day (Campbell was not one of them). Now maybe I don't know anything, and maybe he wouldn't have played - but I see a spot where we need all the help we can get and losing a big body inside is bad bad bad news. Please talk me off the ledge. thanks.
Not a "sky is falling" type of guy but this is one of many reasons why I think we actually struggle to 8 wins this year. I truly think we could be a better team in regard to talent (due to our class) but so inexperienced and/or thin in areas that it could be a struggle with our schedule. Starting 2-2 is not an insane possibility (or GFB, get upset in one of the others due to injuries or something) and then the B10 is not an easy walk.
If Denard stays healthy and becomes an actual QB who can make good decisions, be fairly accurate and know when to just take off for free gimme yards (instead of triple coverage jump balls) he alone could get us to a major bowl game. Yet, I think he is who he is and we'll see more of the same this year. Our defense WILL be weaker. Cannot replace MM and RVB with a guy still needing to get bigger/stronger and Freshman. Cant.
OL will be an iffy as well. All said, Rock would have played this year.......just not much. Not a huge loss and opens a spot but I agree that a loss at that position is just another stress on a team with a ton of them this year.
I just hope the fellow UM faithful dont jump ship if/when we are fighting for 8 wins. Heck, we may have a 2 year 8ish win years lull but then I see us really taking off again. National stage, top 10 consistently level good.
I wish him the best, choosing where to go to school and being away from home, it isn't easy for these kids. I don't blame him for anything, I won't 'dog' him for wanting to go somewhere else. I hope he finds a place that fits him and gives him what he wants.

his schnoz departed a bit before he did.
