Exit Andrew David Comment Count

Per Jon Runyan's instagram:

That's Andrew David in the picture. David came in as a scholarship kicker but wasn't in the conversation last year despite the open job and was then recruited over when Michigan brought in Quinn Nordin, the #1 K in the country to three of the four services. He was used as a pooch punter this spring; apparently that didn't take.

With Kenny Allen likely to have both specialist jobs this year and Nordin set to take over at one or both in 2017, David's departure shouldn't impact Michigan much on the field. They might look for a scholarship punter now, but with so many high-end guys on the hook and no obvious candidates they could pass.

David's departure brings the 2017 class up to 22 scholarships right now, with 30 or so signees likely.

I assume he will be eligible to play in 2017 with three years left? Tough development for the guy, but it sounds like he has a good place to go, and I wish him the best.

Is it? How do you know that? Those guys are still young. I know everyone loves Brandon Peters, but Shane was looking pretty awesome to this board a few years ago as well. You never know how guys will turn out. And maybe the guy wants a degree from Michigan. Maybe he doesn't see the NFL in his future and doesn't wanna transfer to Indiana Basin Silt College for playing time.

Rooting for, yes. Simply speculating based off depth isn't a problem. Brian did it on today's podcast, in fact. There's a huge difference between "I hope Malzone leaves so we can use that scholarship on someone else" and "Malzone is already behind Speight and O'Korn, if he's likely behind Peters after this season, I wouldn't be surprised if he transferred."

Is it bad that my first reaction was, "Who is Andrew David??  Oh, yeah."  I remember I was excited when he first came here and then he fell totaly off the radar.

I actually met his grandmother recently (she saw my Michigan shirt and introduced herself,) and she said that he loved it at Michigan and was having the time of his life.  So it is kind of sad if he was liking it that much that it didn't work out depth chart wise.

Yes, this is as close as I get to insider info.  I also met Jake Butt's grandpa under similar circumstances.
