Does this mean that Michigan won't be on ESPN out of market (like in the northeast)?

If so, I'm canceling cable.

Just because you get a contract with another conference you can't void the one you've already got with another conference. And Mandel, just an FYI, but the Big Ten still has better TV options solely because of the BTN which is available with basic packages on every satellite in the country as well as UVerse, FIOS and dozens of cable companies. I'll take the BTN over some regional ESPN crap presentation.

Something else of curiosity - will those crap SEC games be in HD? Yeah, I doubt it...

EDIT: Also, if you follow the link on SI to the conference breakdown he has the SEC first because, well, I don't know other than excessive man-love because when you break it down the Big Ten gets 214 million a year from TV deals and the SEC gets 205 million. Advantage (even if slight) Big Ten :)

WTF? The BTN is not on basic satellite packages; from what I've seen you have to get a sports tier package to get the channel. And yeah, zero cable providers in Texas offer the BTN. For last 2 years I've had to go to a bar and fight with all the red raider, aggie, and longhorn fans to put one TV on BTN to watch a Michigan game. I preferred when I could get all Michigan games through espn gameplan, abc or espn.

ESPN Deal: 150 million a year
CBS Deal: 55 million a year

Big Ten
BTN Deal: 112 million a year
ABC/ESPN Deal: 100 million a year

Seems to me like their CBS deal isn't even remotely close to being the richest and combined they are still behind in $ - wth?

We're going to need to see a few SEC teams get embarrassed by either big10, pac10, or big12 teams before the SEC hype dies down and reporters start claiming they knew it would happen because it goes in cycles. Maybe it can start this season with Texas or USC, and continue in 2010 with us clobbering LSU.

Last night on Espn classic they were showing ND vs Little Brother (2006). I had trouble figuring out who to cheer for. Normally my hatred for ND comes before that for State, but after the whole FYS incident, Im not sure who truly deserves to be #2 on my axis of evil after OSU.
Thoughts?

That sucks for the obvious reason that we will now be unwittingly subjected to more SEC games, but it also sucks because now SEC stuff won't be on the extra-ghetto RaycomSports. Boo.

What's everyone's issue with SEC football? I can understand how the coverage thereof is wearing thin, but you can't argue with the product itself.

Would you rather watch a game between two middling SEC teams or two from the Pac-10? Big East? Hell, save for the implications for Michigan, I'd rather watch a typical SEC game than a typical Big Ten game.

It goes along with the hate for Tebow. Its nothing about the actual product but rather the coverage of it. Tebow is a great person and great college quarterback, but after listening to the coverage team suck him off for the 4.5 hours of any Florida pregame, game and postgame coverage you want to vomit. Its the same with listening to all the talking heads praise SEC football and their fans who repeat it and cheer for their conference.

What the hell is happening to college football? With the ESPN becoming the new SEC Channel and the awful BCS we will never have fair coverage of CFB. When I watch the CFB show on ESPN it's the Tim Tebow show most the time. It's unwatchable. CFB is more about money now then ever....ugh.. O and by the way, ESPN is not a sports reporting network anymore. It's entertainment(or lack of). The old ESPN died years ago.

I think this TV deal will worsen the bad image the South already has. When people all across the country see Ole Miss fans waving Confederate flags, every time they score a touchdown, it will only confirm people's ideas that Southerners are ignorant.

This whole thing only magnifies the problem that the media covering college football is trying to make it the Saturday version of the NFL. College football needs to stop trying to be something it's not. College football has become too much a media circus when its supposed to be a celebration of school spirit, tradition, etc. Give college football back to the students and alumni.
