ESPN Is The Last Guy On Earth To Find Out About Miami

UPDATE: Fear The Hat adds SI and USA Today and deliciously points out that the Miami story isn't even on the front page of their college football section. Despite the name, FTH does not appear to be Les Miles fan blog.

It's about 2 AM after Charles Robinson reduced the already fairly smouldering ruins of Miami football to a radioactive field of glass. Let's check national sports websites to see what they think is important!

Sporting News:

CBS Sports:

Fox Sports:

Yahoo Sports won't be a surprise but here it is:

NBC Sports:

SB Nation:

What does ESPN think is important at this moment? Do you think it's something other than an earth-shaking, NCAA-threatening, death-penalty-warranting annihilation of a major college football program? Surely. Surely they have passed it over in favor of someone who plays baseball in the Northeast, because they suck that hard, you say?

WRONG, SUCKERS!

image

That guy totally plays regular season baseball… in Atlanta.

Goddammit, ESPN. Sometimes you do suck just as hard as everyone says you do. #freebruce #dontcallitashapiroback

GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT BRIAN

Delgado is just playing regular season baseball in Atlanta for tonight. Tomorrow the team calls up Jurrjens and he goes back to playing minor league baseball in Gwinett(well at least for a couple days)

Seriously. My northeastern

Seriously. My northeastern baseball team clearly doesn't get enough attention! What is up with them front paging the Braves? Get a clue, ESPN! Looking at the bar of links on the right, I don't even see my team up there! There is something wrong with the worldwide leader tonight.

Edit: Shit I lied - The Sox are up there.

Early Morning MGoBloggers Unite!

Thank you Brian for early reports from the media-watchdog niche you have effectively carved out for yourself and all those who call the Greater MGoWorld home.  I too am enjoying the warm fuzzies in the dawn's early hours, watching movies with friends.  Stay classy MGoBlog.

As of 3:44 AM EST 8-17-2011 ESPN is still in modo de beisbol.  Hilarious.

Good ole ESPN

If they're not shoving the Yankees or Red Sox or Jets or Patriots down our throats, gee(not that guy Gee), I wouldn't know what to do with myself.

In their defense, they did have plenty on it on "College Football Live". But still, it makes me wonder what their angle is all the time. They are mentioning the Lions a lot more, so there is that as Brian likes to say.

Oh yeah, Go Blue!!!

The only reason I can

The only reason I can think of why it's not their top story is because they didn't break it, they must really have something against Yahoo when every other sports website is all over this. Welcome to the ESPN sucks hard club Brian.

That and ESPN having the ACC contract

Complain about the ultimate penalties (so far) for Ohio State, but ESPN gave ample coverage to the BTN associated Buckeye scandal.

ESPN is not capable anymore of objectively reporting on those properties in which they have large monetary stakes. And their stake in college football is larger - and most importantly more sensitive to negative coverage - than any other sport they cover.

^^^Bingo^^^

This ^^^ You nailed it SDW.

Their website still has the same front page at 5:00AM and their first six stories on Sports Center are all baseball.  It took 10 minutes of baseball highlights before getting to the biggest story day, week, month etc...

"The U" is story number seven.  Could they be any worse?

This was funnier at 2 AM.

If Miami isn't their lead story at 5, that's shameful.  They're distorting the news to hawk one of their own flagship newsmagazine programs.  It's corporate muscle-flexing.

And did you see

SVP actually read the U story on Sportscenter? It was like he was reading a script in Soviet Russia on Pravda TV that if he said anything hat wasn't on the teleprompter he was going to be shot, sent to Siberia (i.e. ESPNNews), or mauled by a rapid ferret. Or all three.

Definitely has something to

Definitely has something to do with ESPN's relationship with its partners, even if it is not "intentionally" missing stories.  When it comes to sports they are not as connected to (like hockey), the stories seem to break all the time.  But when it comes to a big-name program in what is probably their flagship show (CFB), they have been slow to respond.  Heck, even when UM was nicked for those dumb stretching exercises, they seemed a little slow to report.  But fully expect once the story has a day, ESPN will lay into them with all the hypocritical gusto and ratings-grabbing dribble all of their half-brained "analysts" can muster.

Honestly, I think it's irrelevant.

Kudos to Yahoo for breaking the Miami scandal, but I don't see what difference it makes for ESPN to delay their coverage a little. They didn't break the OSU story either, but they covered it well with OTL reports and have kept the story going. Indeed, the main complaint from OSU fans is that ESPN won't let go of their story. If thet do the same with Miami I'll be pleased. Does anyone remember or care how quickly ESPN reacted to the initial Tat 5 news or to Dohrmann's story?

For you conspiratorial types a quick question, who broadcasts most of the B1G games?

You are right. It is a big conspiracy by espn. They had a hidden agenda to make the braves 11 inning game the top story. Even though now it is on the front page. It all fell perfectly into place for them.

It's not really a conspiracy

It's not really a conspiracy in the slightest. They just place less emphasis on stories when they don't break them. Ohio is different in that Joe Schad claimed to be reporting things, so they ran with it (despite those tidbits already being reported elsewhere).

They're glazing over it now, not as much as the cooler poopers but it's early. Does this mean we get to hear OSU fans bitch about injustice all day?

The "U" just needs to the OSU defense and deny...."You can't trust Ed Rife/Nevin Shapiro...they're criminals." Or "Ted Sarniak/Nevin Shapiro are not boosters their mentors."

There's certainly ample material for OSU conspiracy theorists when the top 3 headlines on the right side are Miami, something about Tressel and something about Pryor.

I'll play

9:20 am, and it's still Braves.  But the headlines on the side says "No Miami suspensions yet". Uhm, yeah.

Ok man, we get it.  You

Ok man, we get it.  You dislike ESPN and think there's a massive KONSPIRACY.

They did lead with it last night on their 11PM EST Sportscenter and Scott Van Pelt did actually have a conversation with Charles Robinson for a good 5+ minutes on the scandal.  However, they are not obligated to devote every second of airtime to the scandal, because I assume there are many Red Sox fans who don't care about college football and just wanted to see Ellsbury hit some home runs.

Do I think they are downplaying this?  Yes.  However I'm sure they will recap it during every Sportscenter and probably talk about it on every single show they do today, whether SC, PTI, etc.  So give it a rest, unless you want to be known for both being in Bolivian and ESPN's Section 1.

Have you heard

Have you read up on any of the articles surrounding the allegations? Not only is ESPN downplaying this coverage by not having it be a main headline, but the article ESPN draws up is nothing vs what Yahoo! and other sports sites are listing. This guy is throwing Miami under the bus, for what looks to be the biggest case in NCAA history! Censorship at its best!

If a tree fell and nobody heard...

If a 2011 football game were scheduled in Miami pitting Buckeyes against Hurricanes, and no football players were eligible; would there be a game if no one were around to witness it?

As if you couldn't have

As if you couldn't have already guessed, 11W is having some fun with this. Pot meet kettle.

*I* am actually the last guy on earth to find out about this

Apparently I can't turn my back on the college football world for a few hours without something happening.

Mike and Mike

Mike and Mike were all over this during their morning radio show.  They even had a good segment interviewing Emmert.  Greenie continues to be clueless about college football.

hilarious

As of 12:43 pm, Wednesday, the front page story on the NCAA FOOTBALL site is "Notre Dame is Back" and the two Miami links read:  "No Miami Suspensions Yet" and "Gifts to Players?".

In the second article, they have a poll asking "How Big a Deal" the story is...2/3 of their readers have voted "Very Big Deal."  11% say "not a big deal."  I guess ESPN is with the 11%?

Just because Randall Delgado

Just because Randall Delgado is only the 3rd best pitching prospect in the Braves organization doesn't mean he doesn't deserve top spot on ESPN. I guess they could have done a split screen with Delgado and Arodys Vizcaino, who ended up getting the win.

How many Miami players are top 50 prospects in minor league baseball? None! duh!

Scooped

COuld this be because as some has mentioned that ESPN is not that fond of Yahoo sports doing a more through job of investigating than themselves?
