With everyone in an uproar about star rankings of our recruits, I am a little puzzled by DJ Willimason. He plays in Ohios toughest Class, he just won the state 100M title, has nice size and yet there seems very little info and zero hype. How bad do you have to be at football to be the fastest kid in a state like Ohio and people not see potential?? Was he buried on a depth chart last year Teric Jones style?? Does he fall down if he doesn't run in a straight line?? Seems rather puzzling.
DJ Williamson Mystery
Rivals just got his tape.
some peoples tune will change if Rivals decides to give him 4 or 5 stars.
led to a down year numbers wise for DJ. He had a much better year statistically as a sophomore. Nothing the kid can do about not having someone to throw him the ball.
I sure hope AA Huron has a QB who can throw the ball this year or Ricardo and Jeremy's star ratings are going to drop (lol)!
Something useful actually regarding the post. +25 to you sir.
Kudos to you, good question.
Al Davis has had this kid on his radar for three years.
+1 LOL I'm still in shock they took Bey over Crabtree!
...and, he's committed. If committed, there is no need to put much work (or an alteration of star rankings) into a recruit who won't drive web clicks and revenue.
He has no ranking, if Rivals makes him a 5* it will be big news, generate web clicks and revenue.
Rivals is dumb and even though there are highlights of Williamson elsewhere on the web, they wouldn't rate him because they didn't have his tape. It's kind of a petty thing, I think.
Nobody should be worried about him, though. At the very least, he'll be a 3-star prospect. I compared him to Carl Tabb, which obviously doesn't remind anyone of greatness...but Tabb was serviceable and could have produced a little if he weren't surrounded by such great talent at the WR position.
Rivals really seems behind this year. Almost like they rushed too fast to get their first rankings out and missed a lot of recruits. The first revision had some huge movers/droppers and I wouldn't be surprised if it continues in their 3rd revision.
I think scout actually did a better job with their first lists and after just updating it recently they seem to still have recruits where most people were expecting them.
We have Devin Gardner #2 ranked Dual Threat QB
We are in it for Munchie Legaux #5 ranked Dual Threat QB
We have Tony Drake #12 ranked AP RB
In it for Brennen Clay #2 ranked AP RB
In it for Mack Brown #6 ranked RB
In it for Nick Hill #10 ranked AP RB
We have Christian Pace #5 ranked C
In it for Torian Wilson #2 ranked G
In it for Seantrel Henderson #1 ranked T and overall player
We have M Rob #8 ranked OLB
In it for Jordan Hicks #1 ranked OLB
In it for Corey Nelson #2 ranked OLB
In it for Dior Mathis #8 ranked CB
In it for Rashad Knight #18 ranked CB
In it for Cullen Christian #19 ranked CB
All of those listed are 4stars or above except Cullen Christian and Nick Hill. There are plenty more on the radar with Austin White, Shariff Floyd, Spencer Ware, etc. So relax with the 4 star talk. It is June.
Out of it for Jordan Hicks.
Also, Mack Brown has eliminated us from contention.
Well if we are all so worried about what Rivals has to say then the above is what is currently on thier site. Conclusion? Don't worry about what Rivals has to say about anything. It is June. I would be much more worried about the test scores of Gallon and Fitz than anything at Rivals about our 3 star collection.
I'm not worried about anything.
The general concensus is worry and panic, Jesus. Seriously? It was in response to the general worry and panic not to you specifically. I have a headache.
When you respond to an individual's post, often that individual thinks the comment is directed toward him.
I apologize for using common sense.
Thanks for your humble opinion, so often. So very often.
Don't project your stupidity onto me.
You responded to my post.
Now you're pissed at me for thinking that your response was to my post when, in fact, it was a response to my post.
I'm 99% certain you and Dudeness don't realize you're replying to each other.
EDIT: Or at least not about the same thing anyway. Just kiss and makeup already. The makeup e-sex is worth it.
Last time I had makeup e-sex, it fried my boner.
Are you serious? I used the word WE. As in we (not me personally, but certainly not you) are worried about the 3 stars. Then you inferred that I somehow meant you? This makes me stupid in your world? Fine. As I have said before, perhaps you need to sit a few posts out. I don't know. Have a beer and relax, maybe take a day off from posting for a while. It seems this may be too much for you at times what with all the reading and comprehension involved.
So you used the word "we" but people that shouldn't have been included in that subset are you (the person speaking) and me (the person whose post you responded to).
That makes perfect sense now. How could I possibly have thought that you were referring to me?
certain posters INABILITY to find proper REPLY BUTTON has chance to OBFUSCATE true DIRECTION behind their POSTS
just epinion no sugarcoat
-1 for using "OBFUSCATE" when you know damn well that word is wayyyy beyond the vocabulary of GBMW.
+1 for the premise of your post
Unfortunately that leaves you with 0 points but at least you got an MGoPoint, so you've got that going for you.
You both need to chill the fuck out.
I know your argument has failed when you resort only to calling names.
You can't beat Magnus in an argument.
Checkers, on the other hand, is a sure-fire victory.
Like calling me stupid? Look man I don't really care what you think of me. You have your very well known opinions and I have mine. I see no reason why you have to turn a misunderstanding (yours not mine) and turn it into this because you can't let it go. You pissed me off by calling me stupid because you misinterpreted my post. If you want to continue this you can go right on ahead. I am sorry that you turned yet another post into a Magnus comment-fest. I was just commenting that we should chill about the 3 star bullshit because it is June. You turned it into something about you. Well played.
In the literary world, it is a very important point that it is the WRITER'S job to convey his point with no ambiguity; the reader's job is to understand what is written. Your post was filled with ambiguity; therefore, you failed.
Then you tried (and you're continuing to try) to blame your failure on my lack of understanding.
Also, my argument wasn't "You're stupid." My argument was that you were projecting your lack of common sense onto me, and I then proceeded to tell you how you failed at communication.
Your argument devolved into "Douche."
And you, I am afraid, are not being Magnanimous,.
Dude...You are being very undude.
edit ---- Shit. I missed the one below mine. I thought I was sweet.
being very un-Dude
how DARE you use COMMON sense in one of your POSTS. It has NO place ON the internets!!
Haven't you heard that a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go-Oh, wait a minute. No sugarcoating...Yeah, got you. Well, hell those Oats are starting to give me the runs!!!
The more fiber you eat, the more regular you become.
I haven't had diarrhea for months.
You should see my forty time when I got the runs. Let's just say Denard would still beat me, but I'm pretty fast.
don't alot of players make a name for themselves at summer camps, but he's not attending them? This gives Scout and Rivals less of a chance to evaluate him, which will most likely leave him at a 3* rankings.
him as a 3* recruit and the #105 WR nationally
In summary I guess we're saying we have no idea and we're waiting for some idiot at Rivals who has no motivation because he's already committed to randomly give him a 3 star at which point 70% will say he is garbage and 30% will say Mike Hart/Pat White or he could say "wow he's fast make him a 4 star" at which point RR will get a reach around for unearthing a gem from the internet hordes.
That's not even close to what I said.
He didn't say that you said it. See post #11.
Williamson certainly has proven track speed, and has decent size. Those don't make a four-star player. I haven't watched his film, but I do know that he didn't put up great stats last year, so until he can prove on the football field that he deserves a higher ranking, why would he get one?
That is more of what I was looking for. I'm not saying he is fast he deserves a 4th star. I was just saying he isn't rated by ESPN or Rivals and he played for one of the bigger schools in Ohio and he won the 100M as a Junior so it wasn't like no one knows who he is. I want a reason. If you say his speed doesn't translate to the field because he is very stiff or has no hands or isn't tough than I can understand. Just seems odd he has little info. I'm hoping he didn't have great stats because he played behind some stud who went to LSU and this year he is going to blossom and we have this stud locked up, but no one has seemed to see him in action so I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Sarcasm meter please set to on. I'm not worried about anything I think that most of the whole "star" thing is a joke once you start getting this deep in the pool. People post on here that Denard Robinson ran thru Meijer to get milk and someone hand timed it at 9.79 over the 100M he ran in there....with a busted wheel on the cart. It's been 3 days and no one has posted anything about this guy winning the Ohio 100M as a Junior and he has little info out there. My question was why?? Just seemed odd, I'm not worried about his rating at all. Seems like speed is something scouts kinda looked at. With that in his back pocket I wondered if anyone had seen him play or if he didn't play much and if that was the case why?? I'd be glad to here he didn't give a shit about rankings so he didn't make a mix tape and go to some stupid combine to get his ranking up so they just ignored him.
But you know that.
I can't believe you are giving up on Clay.
Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?
Someone will come flying in soon to correct your history. Then someone will remind him of Animal House making the guy look like a moron.
Wasn't that a quote from "Animal House"?
Yep, I was just waiting for someone to come correct his history. Normally there's at least one person who bites.
You ruined it when you said "wait for it." I was hoping someone would come out and look like an idiot. I think your post made them think about it first and refrain. You gotta just sit back and let it happen, man.
Wait, I thought those nasty Brits bombed Pearl Harbor?
perfect use of hidden text in a post. I also award you an internets.
It was the Chinese you dummy.
How do Scout and Rivals evaluate players? Is it 1 guy assigned to a position or a state? Is it a group of guys that go see every high school player that is known to be a 1-A prospect?
I know that Rivals/ Scout sponsor camps and attend other camps (e.g. Nike), but is this the primary tool?
Also, if these "people" are so good at evaluating talent, why don't they work for a college team or for an NFL team? Do Scout/ Rivals pay a lot more?
The model that would make the most sense is a system of current coaches who get some side action for evaluating players with a few coaches rating each prospect.
Anyway, thanks for any insight.
It is a group of guys who watch film on each player and then determine what star rating/position ranking to give. In other words, it won't just be Josh Helmholdt or Adam Trieu or Mike Farrell. There are guys who concentrate in certain regions and, therefore, I would imagine they have a little more input.
I would imagine that Scout/Rivals' analysts don't work for NFL/college teams because there are only so many of those jobs to go around. So if the NFL has the top 32 guys and the FBS has the next 119 best, maybe these guys are the 152nd best in the country or so... (I know that's not accurate, but you get the point.)
I think coaches rating players would be a conflict of interests. Not only do coaches have enough on their plates, but they would obviously feel obligated to give their kids higher ratings or maybe keep a kid at a 2-star to make sure he stays under the radar or something. I don't think that would be a good system. Coaches rate players by giving them scholarship offers; we know what Randy Shannon or Urban Meyer or Brady Hoke thinks of a player based on whether he gives the kid a scholarship offer or not.
Past coaches maybe. But yeah, definitely not current ones - seriously, if you were Mr. Big Shot Booster Man, would you be real happy if you were paying the coach's salary and he was moonlighting with Rivals rating a whole bunch of players he probably isn't recruiting? I wouldn't. Coaches have a job to do, and I doubt many of 'em would line up for a side job.
Thanks for the info.
In terms of coaches rating players, I meant High School coaches, which brings up a conflict of interest, but there may be a way to mitigate that (maybe don't rate your own team, or conference...). I believe that HS coaches moonlight in various areas, so this may just be another opportunity for them.
Anyway, thanks for the info on how these guys are rated.
In the case of DJ, it may just be that his film doesn't translate as well, or he didn't put a lot of effort into making it, or whatever. That combined with not actively pursuing recruiting (it seems like he's laying low and is happy with M).
I believe FBS now has 120.
His Dudeness, you ass clown, bow down to Magnus.
ass clown with 8 points on this thread alone. a cool dozen for magnus. I am going to have to get in an e-argument soon. very good for the status
Ford sucked. You got anything to say tough guy? Here's your chance you coward.
but I recall Williamson wasn't featured much in the offense, hence not much film on him.
Could Williamson be compared to James Jackson? (OSU 4 STAR WR RECRUIT 2009). Both are super fast and basically have the same body structure. Williamson is a bit taller though. All I saw in James Jackson was speed.
Im guessing Dj will be a 4 star by february. Not that it matters how many stars he gets because it's the production on the field that matters. But for the star rating fanatics I wouldn't worry too much about it. Like many other posters said before me, rivals has just recieved his tape.
I watched James Jackson play in person and he was underwhelming for a four star (3 rec., like 45 yds, and a TD, got his shit rocked by a punter....) He didn't scream "Ohio State" to me. He was at best aboverage. He was fast.
Rivals had no tape on any of the Harding players. There are a number of them committed around the country (I noticed West Virginia had two committed as well).
