"In response to CBSSports.com's request for Michigan's concussion management protocol, the athletic department sent the NCAA's 11-page document for treating head injuries."
So I'm doing the Memorial Day thing and as such am almost completely out of pocket. I'm typing on a phone and therefore can't do various things I otherwise would do. Like link. Sorry in advance.
Preliminaries out of the way: wow. Ding, dong. /brucecampbellvoice. Tressel's dead, Ohio State won't have a new coach until November, when the Buckeye season will end no matter their record, and there's an SI story coming out in the next day or so that will apparently explain the sudden shift from "I hope he doesn't fire me" to dead man. In all likelihood that will contain details that put USC level sanctions on the table. In the interregnum in Columbus, shiny friendly not about to get cratered Brady Hoke will be in ur base stealing ur recruits. Full analysis tomorrow when I've got a computer and the SI story. Someone find a good place to get a Dispatch style count up clock in the meantime.

My mobile knows THAT word. All the other simple ones it changes and "corrects"....
tressel drinks wine coolers
Tressel resigns, TomVH hints at an exciting June, Brian working on a holiday weekend... all good things!
This comment has been rated B-A for being a "Bad-Ass" "Bacari-Alexander" quote.
Seems like all of the stars that were so furiously aligned against us the past three years have had a massive Galactic Shift. Willing and ready to ride the wave of Hoke's auric excrective aura.
There's plenty out there to satisfy our appetites (go read the comments thread on 11 Warriors LOL). We'll look forward to your insight when you have a full keyboard to work with.
We need Lloyd Brady on this one.
I don't even know what to say. This is a great day. So...how many days until we beat OSU?
it depends. The NCAA is likely to say that we didn't lose last years game. does that mean that we won?
A vacated loss is not a win. Sadly. But the 'haven't lost to Ohio State will be reduced to potentially '0' days depending on how far it goes back. Here's to hoping...
Unfortunately, it would still be 2700+ days since Michigan beat OSU.
Fortunately, it might be over 3000 days since OSU beat Michigan.
I can't fathom the NCAA forcing OSU to vacate all wins since 2004. It would be nice, but....
4,573 days since osu last beat Michigan without possibly using ineligible players/cheating. http://www.convertunits.co
I can sense it already. Great start to the week!
I guess I need a new user name. lukefickellissatan is just not as satisfying.
I'm loving watching OSU fans spin this as watch out, not they'll get a coach who won't take his foot off when they get a lead.
I was at a party last night with WAY too many OSU fans and as a group they kept saying that there was no way Tressel was leaving. Too bad that party wasn't today.
with a bigger smile and an extra brew or two after we remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
Happy Memorial Day
So when Boren cited"family values", what exactly was he referring to? Sucks we won't be able to exact revenge on Tressel, but hopefully the tide turns anyhow and we rack up 7 straight. Go Blue!
needed new cars?
That will be the sweetest thing, for Buckeye Nation to slowly watch the win gap that they've been closing with Michigan creep back up to 20-22.
There cannot be a better sign from the football gods as to their approval of one Brady Hoke.
with his hovercrafts.
Pretty good Staples article
"Try for a moment to remove whatever school-colored glasses you might own and consider the following questions:
-- If Tim Tebow, Percy Harvin and Alex Smith had been found guilty of breaking NCAA rules, what would you think of former Utah and Florida coach Urban Meyer?
-- If Ricky Williams, Vince Young and Colt McCoy had all been penalized for running afoul of the NCAA, what would you think of Texas coach Mack Brown?
-- If college sports' governing body had forced LaRon Landry, Rolando McClain and Mark Ingram to miss games for their transgressions, what would you think of former LSU and current Alabama coach Nick Saban?"
you really went out on a limb there. should I give you all of my mgopoints?
That the two OSU coaches who did the most to establish, continue and enhance the Buckeye brand of Top Ten football depart in such an ignominious fashion. Woody for belting an opposing player...during the game! And Tressel the serial turn the other cheek cheater who established no institutional control while his players lined their pockers for......ten years!
So Brent Musberger said that JT was a great guy. Have you ever noticed that most con artists and pathological liars are very likable? Of course they are because they say only what they think you want to hear.
Then there is Gordon Gee, selected by Time magazine within the past 12 months as the top university president in the USA, with MSC 3rd. Really? Could we have a revote?
When Nixon was forced out of office he stated that he was doing it for the sake of the nation and that he was innocent of any wrong doing. I would imagine that Tressel will take the same approach, that he is leaving for the sake of OSU and is totally innocent of any wrong doing.
Way too early to be thinking about these things but... Tressel, as good as his record was against us, was starting to watch the game pass him by.
Lets hope Meyer, Pelini and Patterson forsee the impending doom the NCAA will soon asert against an unsuspecting OSU and stay way. I think all three are better coaches than Tressel. If Dantonio jumps ship for the Buckeyes even better.
As happy as we are today to watch OSU's pain and embarrasment lets hope it doesn't come back to bite us.
How about English?
There is another Tressel. I wonder if he's going to keep recruiting there or if he's going to go out like Ella Bully Cummings did when Kwame resigned. I'm trying to picture him out there trying to pull in the top recruits and the picture is just too funny right now.
on my Michigan flag in suburban Cbus. Oh life is going to be such fun!
I was really surprised to wake up to this news today. I could not shake the feeling that Tressel and OSU would skate by with minimum punishment by the NCAA. So glad I was wrong. Go over to Bucknuts if you want some entertainment. They all still think Tressel is a saint who didn't do anything wrong. Mr. Dunn---Come on down. GO BLUE!
so I wonder if the resignation of the "vest" isn't just T$IO trying to manipulate the system even more. is it true that now that the "vest" is no longer an employee of the university, he no longer has to explain to the NCAA what he knew and when he new it?
Didn't USC and Pete Carroll do something similiar? I wonder if we will find out soon that the "vest" has a really nice buyout deal that was negotiated by the lawyer that he hired? It wouldn't surprise me at all to see that this is just another tactic being employed by the T$IO to avoid sanctions and penalities.
How long before we find out that Terrell "aka Reggie Bush" Pryor is not going to play his senior season and asked the NFL for a supplemental draft.....
If I remember correctly (and I very well may not) I believe the sanctions against USC had a lot more to do with the University and not specifically the coach. It seemed down there the HC was oblivious to what was going on (or at least was able to claim he was without evidence suggesting otherwise). Also, I think Pete leaving had more to do with him wanting out than the university forcing him out which appears to be the case here.
In this instance, it seems to this point that JT was where the buck stopped. He had all sorts of knowledge regarding violations and seemed to sit on it, without passing it up the chain (I say "seemed" because at their first press conference it looked as though he wanted to say something but was interrupted by the AD before he could get it out).
I don't know that this will change anything, but now that he isn't a coach in the NCAA I don't believe they can do anything to him (or even question him about anything). So if the NCAA finds that the infractions were all down to players and the coach not passing on the information, and the coach is no longer an employee....I am wondering if it will cause them to go lighter on OSU in this case. Probably what OSU is hoping for at any rate. I don't think they push JT to resign without some serious alterior motive.
The NCAA can no longer force him to talk, but they will probably give him a very long show cause order if he does not--which may or may not matter to Tressel.
OSU is definitely going to frame this as one guy who was extremely adept at tricking OSU's compliance department, but if there's enough dirt, the NCAA isn't going to buy it. However, a big part of USC's problem with the NCAA was that the USC Athletic Department basically gave the NCAA the finger instead of cooperating fully with the NCAA. OSU won't make that mistake.
But OSU already did make that mistake. They gave Tress a slap on the hand and said they found no additional infractions, including with the car situation. They swept everything under the rug -- in contrast to what M did, when, on principle, it immediately plead guilty to major violations that weren't so major.
