Who thinks that Dileo's commitment is a kick returner fill with all the return troubles we had last year? I still feel he is on the 2-3 deep in the slot, but do you think his versatility holds any weight? 42.5 kick return average sounds pretty solid to me...
I'll wager any amount of money that he will not average anywhere close to 42.5 and would venture that he will be "good" if he doesn't fumble and if he provides michigan with an average start of the 30 yard line (hell I'd take the 25)
I'd wager he's like 10 deep on the slot because he's a high school junior currently.
until you consider the context.
I'm sure the kid will be a good returner in college and will add depth to the slot position, which is currently needed.
Hopefully this kid grows some more, if he put some more size on that body he'd be getting more offers from upper tier schools; anyone know how big mom and pops are?
I wonder if this isn't part of a larger plan to simply make more inroads in Louisiana, if not other members of his football team. There's a guy named, uh, what's he named... Fotenot? A linebacker anyways; he's also a junior and there is talk on some of the LSU blogs that this guy is going to be a real player for somebody, maybe we're getting our foot in the door by introducing the buddy system...
I did some research on the kid and apparently he has been beefing up in the weight room much more as of late. LSU's message board said Dileo is "One hell of a ball player." It sounds like he originally wasn't D-1 material at all but as of late his stock has risen as he has bulked up.
Here are my thoughts on the anti-Rich Rod 2010 recruiting:
I would rather have us take a player who loves the game of football, has some upside, will work hard and contribute as best he can - rather than a 5 star recruit who can't spell his name. It sounds like this kid is a die hard Michigan fan since birth and it has been his dream to play for the maize and blue - I like it.
As Herb Brooks said, "I don't look for the best players - I look for the right ones."
Next year we will lose Brown and Minor so I really have to wonder if he is not being recruited for the sake of depth at the running back position. Hart was not super fast and I don't know for sure but I have to guess that with his size and lack of speed that he was a 3 star (I could be wrong) and look what he did for us while he was there (and healthy). I trust RR for now. Out of curiousity does anyone know how he did in his first full recruiting class at WVU? I have to think that he did not have a top 10 class that year. I would even guess that the class that brought in White was not a top 10 class either. Don't know where I am going with that, just kind of curious.
I agree - he can be used in a lot of ways too - he may not be in impact player right away but he is definitely versatile. He looks like Welker in his clips (skinny version). Going to my last statement - the kid loves Michigan. Give him some time with Barwis and a couple years to develop and who knows.
He is being recruited exclusively as a slot receiver.
For now, yes. They said the same about Cam Gordon - he will end up at LB most likely...even though they said he will get his shot at outside WR. Dileo will probably stay in the slot though.
There has been no hint whatsoever that he might play another position, unless you count musings from random fans.
