Denard Robinson in Sports Illustrated

Denard Robinson is in the latest sports illustrated in the "Faces in the Crowd" section. Basically it says that he is really fast, won the Florida State 4x100 relay and is commited to Michigan. Not really news, but just more proof that D-Rob is fast.

Waiting for other adjectives

I am going to have reservations on this kids ability to play QB until I hear an adjective other than fast used to describe him. Forcier is lauded for his speed, as well as his accuracy, his leadsership, his moxie, his playmaking, etc. Speed alone can make you a good football player, but it takes a ton more than physical tools to be a QB. That same argument goes for rocket arms. Just ask Jason Kapsner or Scott Dreisbach.

Denard has more going for him than just his speed

If you look at his videos, which show him playing against the top teams in Florida, as well as the nation, he displays leadership, quick thinking, good decision making, and other intangibles that make him and his team winners. There's definitely more about him than his speed that has most of us very excited to see him in uniform.

He also completed less than

He also completed less than 50% of his passes and ran for just over 4 yards per carry.

There's something to work with, but there are also plenty of reasons to doubt whether he can play quarterback at a high level.

Please, where did you get

Please, where did you get your stats, I have been looking and haven't come up with anything.
Here is a quote from his coach
“Oh my god, Michigan is going to get an explosive, explosive quarterback. He is a leader, he pushes his will to win on others. I’ve never seen a kid so competitive"

The kid likely has a long way to go before he's ready to be a a collegiate QB.

Thank you, 85 carries for 462

Thank you, 85 carries for 462 yards is 5.43 YPC. 18 yards per completion not bad.
I am not really a numbers guy, especially considering the disparity in competition in HS. Can't wait to see how Denard's undeniable talent translates to College Football.

Yeah thats good, but Tate

Yeah thats good, but Tate passed for 3,424 yards, and also carried the ball 92 times for 783! Thats 4,200 yards by one player! And an average of 8.5 yards per carry!

Honestly, with how good Tate is preparing for this year, I don't think Denard has much of a shot. I bet he gets switched to receiver like Steve Breaston. Steve was a pretty fast guy, but Denard will be able to blow right past the corners!

Tate has a big head start for

Tate has a big head start for sure, I do not care who starts, and I look forward to seeing them both this fall at QB. With our pronounced lack of depth, they are both going to play which should be exciting and frustrating.
Again, I do not put too much weight on HS stats. They are both **** prospects and great great atheletes, who bring much needed competition to our QB position.

Denard will be at QB for at

Denard will be at QB for at least his first year and probably his first two, if he switches at all. We have virtually no depth there, and Gardner will not be ready to play as a true frosh and should get red-shirted. That means even if Denard isn't as good as Tate, we need a solid non-Sheridan back-up.

Rodriguez has commented many

Rodriguez has commented many times on Denard's favorable quatlities beside speed, you must not have been paying attention.
His high school coach said Denard will play in the NFL, no he did not say as a QB.
One of the scouting services raved about his competitiveness and the fact that with the game on the line you want the ball in Denard's hands
All in all there are many reasons to look forward to Denard in a Michigan uniform, speed may pop into the mind first, but there is much more to the package. Personally I will be surprised if he redshirts.

Scott Driesbach had nowhere

Scott Driesbach had nowhere near a rocket arm. As for Kapsner, we don't know why he didn't see the field. He may well have been a good player who just got caught up in a numbers game.

I just think that his speed

I just think that his speed is getting people overly excited about his abilities as a QB. My biggest fear with RR's offense was that it would make us one dimensional. The ability to run and throw the ball at a high level is what will make this a dangerous offense in the big ten. If we are just going to throw a slot back behind center, then the critics are right, and this will be a gimick offense that will win a game or so every year that it shouldn
't and lose three that it should win. Drooling over physical tools without looking at the whole player is what made people like Ryan Leaf over Manning because of his 'upside,' and think that Drew Henson should start over Tom Brady. Look at Ryan Perriloux or Alex Smith and you see the same result. Everyone raves about guys like Kevin Newsome, Beaver, Gardner, etc. and then in the same article will say "they have poor mechanics and will have to improve as a passer, however." (paraphrasing) If a guy is strong and fast and can run, but can't throw the ball 30 yards on a line then they are not a QB, they are a RB or WR. Just that simple.

Yes, but if you get freaks of

Yes, but if you get freaks of nature like Pat White, Vince Young, or (to a lesser extent) Dennis Dixon to play QB, it doesn't matter. None of those three guys was considered a great passer, but their overall skills contributed to having outstanding football teams.

I get the feeling you could be told umpteen times of other skills and abilities Denard has and it would not faze you. You seem to revel in your lack of knowledge and are only capable of continuing your repetitive spew ad nauseum

revel in a lack of knowledge?

Come on. I am not bashing on the guy or saying he won't be a good quarterback, I was just pointing out that we all have a lack of knowledge about this guy's QB intrangibles (and Forcier's, too, for that matter). I am tempted to point out the infatuation the NFL had with these speed QB's for a couple of years with a huge lack of success, but I realize that the college level is completely different. If the kid has the whole skill set, I am very much looking foward to him at the helm. I just want to see more than a sprinter taking snaps.

There was a Duck fan at that game waving a "Dixon ya mouf" sign through the whole freakin game. It was pure rock salt in an already gaping wound.

Dennis Dixon was awesome.

Dennis Dixon was awesome. Oregon would have won the national championship if he had not hurt his ankle/leg, imo.
