Demar Dorsey's Potentially Bogus JUCO Journey
As people who hit the message board already know and have vented about, there's a website out there that lists junior college LOIs for Fort Scott Community College. This would not be of interest to anybody except for this bit:
Commence running around and screaming and stuff. Or, if you're of the helpful persuasion, look up the NLI FAQ to get some clarity on this…
You may sign a National Letter of Intent if you have already signed a letter of intent with a junior college or an NAIA school. The National Letter of Intent is a voluntary program with more than 600 participating institutions, all of which are members of either NCAA Division I or II. By entering the National Letter of Intent program, participating institutions agree to honor one another's commitments.
…and do the grinding legwork of finding out how many of these 70-deep JUCO recruiting classes actually end up in JUCO:
56% of last year's "class" for the CC never materialized.... yeah, I think many of these are back up plans.
So. At some point Demar Dorsey signed a LOI with a JUCO, so he's not qualified yet and has made a backup plan. Tom tracked down Fort Scott HC Jeff Sims to confirm:
"He's working very hard to be a Wolverine, but he has to be ready just in case, to recover if he doesn't get in. If he comes here, we'd love to develop him, and get him to his goals. We are his back up plan. He may never end up at our school. If he can't get qualified, then he needs to know that he has a backup plan, and that's us."
He's still got the rest of this high school semester and the summer to get his grades in order but there's obviously a nonzero chance that happens. Players with truly hideous grades usually don't end up recruited by the Floridas and USCs and Florida States. Commence steady, relaxing breathing.
I don't disagree with anything else you posted but,
Players with truly hideous grades usually don't end up recruited by the Floridas and USCs and Florida States.
doesn't sound like a glowing endorsement

I think he was just making the point that if a player is truly an academic long shot those programs won't invest a large amount of time in him. Doesn't mean he is going to make it, but a positive indicator.
That's how I read it as well. Schools like that don't have to devote unneccessary time to recruits who are likely to be longshots, grade-wise, because there are plenty of others to choose from.
"Come on, you Wolverines!"
I would agree with that then

FSU HEAVILY recruited Noel Devine as well as several other major programs....and Devine's grades and past history were a major concern. I firmly believe that if a player is good enough, it really doesn't matter what his grades situation are, coaches will take a chance on them. Their history is a little different, but as long as there isn't anything major or recent, most schools will take a chance on them as well

Interesting angle to get get the story, and very likely to be credible.
A little sanity in an insane world can do wonders.
Keep hitting the books, Demar.
If you can't get into college,
go to State.
Not only from the fact that it is a confirmed back up plan, but in the essence that Demar seems to have a solid support structure at this point in his life.
The signing of this LOI as a backup plan is evidence that he is being advised well, which makes me feel good about his chances of qualifying for us. Somebody is pointing him in right direction.
Here's to Demar qualifying and wearing the winged helmet next year.
I've not been able to log-on to say these things (same as TomVH on Twitter). This isn't the kid who was trying to skate by into college and wasn't eligible, thereby screwing his team and his own future.
This is a kid who chose KANSAS to do his CC work if necessary. KANSAS.
Not Florida. Not Los Angeles. Not St. Louis/Kansas City/Detroit/Dangerous cities with negative influences. Fucking Kansas. I mean, it could have been Iowa but....
yah.
I think it had to due more to the fact that's it's one of the elite football programs at that level than where the influences are or aren't, and how good they are at moving people to Division 1.

They're number #2 in the National Poll, and are usually up there. (11-1 last year)
"I love him, he's a great coach, he's a great mentor, he's a great friend. He's every single thing you want a college coach to be, and he does it flawlessly." -David Molk
Be honest. You just want this to be a backup plan so you don't get all your MGoracular points yoinked.
And so you still get to sleep with Megan Fox, IIRC.
Since you have this 'inside info', you do know that DD signed multiple LOI's, right? Not even the UofM coaches knew for sure the night before signing day the he was coming here, let alone our players. It doesn't surprise me at all the he signed this CC LOI. I agree, that it was a good back-up plan though.

and scared to check MGo, that I actually did work, and a lot of it. Wow, is that sad :(
As always, thanks for coming to the rescue!

The fact that he does have a backup plan at least says he is planning, not something all teenagers do. I'm betting he makes it in. If he is committed to getting it together, and it sounds like he is, he should have enough time.
For actually picking up the phone and getting some info on this. Amazing how useful some bona-fide reporting can be.
This is good news, Ed!
Good News!!
It ain't easy being cheesy
but given the historic infrequency of JUCO transfers coming to Michigan, I hope he doesn't have to resort to that plan, for his sake. He's much better off with a Michigan degree, totally aside from the issue of where he plays football.
tony drake did this same exact thing. calm down.

Boom goes the dynamite.
Thank you!
You sound like you're from London
Thank you for walking me off the ledge.
A casual back up plan is of importance when it comes to Michigan and its players. Hmpf! The inference is negative.
Demar seems like a good kid. He may have had some advice. This is real smart and cautious. They are still talking about The Wolverines. They love Michigan's woes. Even if there are none. Soon that talk will be about the new winning streak.
Some people don't have anything else going on in their lives. DeMar Dorsey will be completely Blue! No worries.

ANN ARBOR - In a further shocking display of egregious disregard for NCAA academic standards, U-M Head Football Coach Rich Rodriguez admitted to using junior colleges to bolster the likelihood of acceptance to U-M. When asked to quote on this story, Rich Rodriguez offered this, "Get the @#$% out of my office and don't come here again, Rosenberg!"
Basically, everything other than Tom VH's comments and the pic of Dorsey's name on the LOI roster could have been summed up by the thread's tags--they even read like something out of Family Guy:
Demar Dorsey -> JUCO -> Panic
That pretty much sums up the thread earlier.
and reported "not likely he will be at UM in the Fall". Is everyone looking for a negative story. Why don't they report the sparties have convicts on their roster?
Go Blue !!!
Dave Brandon: Detailed and thorough investigation proves that Freep report was intentionally misleading.
