Maybe this will calm down some of the Right wing rhetoric but I doubt it.
Not sure if this type of post is frowned upon, but Obama did get this resolved in DENARD speed.

Politics DO NOT belong on this board.
ok thanks. I shall refrain. I was fired up by the actions of the US NAVY more than anything.
If you had made it a positive about the captain or how the event was resolved it would have been ok. But anytime the phrase "right wing rhetoric" is used, it's clear that no actually discussion will take place.
I stand corrected on your point, but I hope my inflammatory point is correct.
PS. I did not vote for Obama or McCain or anyone else for that matter
I hope both sides stop politicizing stupid shit while bankers loot the country.
and the people said amen
then why do you care?
PS: I'm a McCain voter that was pleasantly surprised by President Obama authorizing action if the need/opportunity arose. Good work Obama, US Navy SEALs, and the ship captain.
No politics but what that captain did was really couragous he sacrificed himself for his crew thats a true captain good job to him although he did gamble very correctly and trusted the nave seals good job to the military too they did an amzing job sorry for the spelling by the way i am just to lazy to fix it.
Great story, that is a movie/documentary waiting to happen.
baROCK has a *pirate policy*...good job by the Navy SEALS.
as long as you put an OT: (politics) tag on its title so people can skip it if they like.
thanks for the info, now one more thing what is "OT", I have no clue.
what did those pirates think would happen with several us navy ships surrounding them? pwned
Given what's currently going on in the country? Probably expected billions of dollars in a bailout.
but you could not make up a better name for a ponzi scheme scammer than Madoff
Let's review this. Someone overpaid for assets from Madoff to watch a ton of overpaid baseball players in New York at, and this is the kicker, Citi Field.
"The posting listed the face value for each ticket as $520, adding "you will not find better seats at this price." "
Who the hell were the two idiots bidding up the price? Geithner and Summers?
Bern baby bern, oops wrong team
Well, we should have seen this coming actually, Obama hates pirates: http://digg.com/d1mylN
However, unless he cluelessly does so himself: http://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2009/04/first-sale-president-obama-and-quee...
Technically, he owes 40 X $150,000 now under his own policies. To bad this isn't a bigger news story to fix copyright law.
then no one gives a shit what you think, do they?
guess not, but they do reply. Go Blue.
God I need to get used to Obama's name. Whenever I just quickly glance over it, I see Osama as in Bin Laden. I was like, are you really rooting for OBL to defeat the pirates?
I must add, the Islamists do not seem to be big fans of the pirates, partly because they also hijack Muslim ships. I think they've issued a fatwa or two. As much as the pirates suck and as glad as I am that the captain was rescued, I don't think they're as ruthless as the terrorists, who would behead hostages in a heartbeat. They have made so much money, in some cases they've actually gotten catered food for their hostages. That doesn't at all mean that they shouldn't be stopped though. Just some info about them.
I didn't want to say anything, but I am a little leery of the whole "Muslim" pirates. Granted that a majority of world's terrorists are Muslims, but they do not have an exclusive preserve on mindless violence. I think you should think twice before using it pejoratively like you did.
Stuff like this is why ignorant idiots who thought he was Muslim wouldn't vote for Obama. And even if he were a Muslim, so what? People should have still voted for him if they thought he was the right person for the job. At the end of day, despite what FOX news wants, America is a secular country (although for a secular country God does get thrown around an awful lot, but that is a topic for a different day). It is just unfortunate that in most minds, Muslim = Terrorist, causing them to treat an entire community with suspicion.
I agree with your thoughts.
If the author thought Muslim = pirate then he could have put either "Muslims" or "pirates" in the title, without further clarification. He's just being descriptive, maybe?
Wouldn't Death = Pirates messing with Obama been just as effective? Mind you, these Pirates aren't waging some sort of Jihad against international shipping lines. They are not doing this for Islam, or in the name of Islam, but purely because it is lucrative and commercial ships are soft targets. The fact that they were Muslims is incidental, and not the reason that they become pirates (unlike Islamic terrorists where the stated objective is to wage a holy war in the name of islam). That being the case, applying the adjective Muslim adds nothing in the way of description except reinforce an already harmful stereotype. You might think this is a lot of brow beating over semantics, but I just happen to think it is important. Language has an extremely strong influence on subconscious conditioning, which is why outlawing terms in some cases assumes as much importance as outlawing the prejudicial practices and attitudes themselves.
Actually, many of these pirates do, in fact, justify their actions as acts of jihad against infidels. Historically, piracy was the method of choice favored by Islamic extremists. The Islamic states of North Africa, among others, long harbored pirates who preyed on Europeans' Mediterranean shipping. It was a crime for them to attack a vessel from a Muslim country, but if they attacked one from "infidel" Europe, they were in the clear. The first overseas military expedition in our nation's history was taken out against the Barbary pirates during the presidency of Thomas Jefferson.
It's great that you Wikipedia'd the Barbary Pirates, but:
1. The Barbary Pirates were a political tool used by North African governments largely made up of Moorish refugees from Spain and Portugal. These governments funded the pirates against Europe and the US.
2. The Barbary Pirates, as much as like to talk history, have nothing to do with this, at all.
3. The people who actually did perpetrate this act last week (who were not the Barbary Pirates) did not claim, for a second, that religion was a motivating factor. In their demands, religion did not once come up - money did.
4. They act in an utter vacuum of government control (the void that is Somalia) rather than at the beck and call of one.
Spare me your gratuitous insults. I'm quite familiar with this subject. Piracy, whether we like to admit it or not, has a long history in Islamic societies. It has always been targeted against non-Muslim countries, with the justification that these form part of the Dar al-Harb ("House of War") that, according to the Quran, needs to be wiped from the earth. Muslim pirates, whether they have been state-supported (in the Barbary case) or not (in the case of the Somalis, as well as contemporary Malaysian pirates), have consistently used this line of reasoning.
It's not surprising at all that the pirates called for money. Islamic pirates have never been agents of conversion. The Quran does not even instruct Muslims to try to convert everyone. Rather, it calls for the entire world to be brought into the Dar al-Islam ("House of Submission"). Non-Muslims may live in the Dar al-Islam if they accept second-class "dhimmi" status, which comes by paying a tax for protection to Muslim authorities. Those who do not pay it are refusing to be submissive and must be killed.
Getting into a racial/ethnic slapfight on the internet is pointless, and will only lead to further idiocy. I will only say that you're assuming a wide swath of motivations and beliefs to a handful of people where there is no evidence of them being true.
I have a few disagreements with you.
1. Many of the leaders are nominal Muslims who use Islam to rally the masses for their power grab.
2. The reason I used "Muslim", is as a shot at Obama bashers, not a shot at Muslims. long live Ali Haji Sheik.
3. "outlawing terms". Can you give some examples?
4. "applying the adjective Muslim adds nothing in the way of description except reinforce an already harmful stereotype".
Your application of what I wrote is misguided, I do not share your harmful stereotypes of Muslims.
I think any ethnic or cultural descriptive term adds significant meaning. Though as you may have deduced by my avatar and philosophical leanings, my mind is stuck in the 15th century.
But more to the point, perhaps they were flamboyantly gay pirates dressed in bright pink leotards... and this had nothing to do with their cause for piracy... but to briefly describe them as such (with a politically correct term, of course) would make the title more interesting. Don't you think?
I guess so?
Ignorant idiots who think Obama is a closet Muslim are one of the reasons I posted as I did, but have no fear this will offer "proof" of some other type of Obama evil.
just that his epinion is slightly less valuable than a degree from osu
I would have voted for Bo or Lloyd had they run and one 12 win season from Rodriguez will garner my vote
I know everyone here has a hard-on for numbers so here is a pretty graph:
That's awesome! I had thought they were killed by snipers, but you say it was Obama himself? I bet he's so awesome that he did it barehanded and didn't even get any blood on his shirt! This is the kind of change I want to believe in!
Much like Hitler is credited with the Holocaust deaths, carried out as per his orders, despite never actually killing a person ... in person (other than himself and his family)
/obligatory Nazi analogy
Damn, I've been Hitlered.
