Dear Diary, The Worst is Over Comment Count

Seth

Gentleman-Caller

A whole lot of "defense will be better" diaries this week. Rather than steal their thunder, HIT PLAY to listen to my favorite song off my favorite album of all time, and once the strings and charts come in, start clicking things. (Mp3 courtesy of band's official page)

Dear Diary,

Your gentleman caller

Well, he's been calling on another

He loves his forbidden fruit

And as it dribbles down his chin

He cries:

"Baby I've been drinking with some friends now how about a little kiss"

Bad boy

Rub his nose in it, what a mess

And he's playing dumb

Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo

I'm not looking for a lover

All those lovers are liars

I would never lie to you

wheel_01_04

You say you wanna get even

Yeah you wanna get your bad man good

Well, are you in the mood?

You bad girl

Does it feel good

Being bad? and get worse

do do do do do do do do

SYRACUSE ROBINSON

But in the morning

On the sober dawn of Sunday

You're not sure what you have done

Who told you love was fleeting?

Sometimes men can be so misleading

To take what they need from you

Whatever you need to make you feel

Like you've been the one behind the wheel

The sunrise is just over that hill

Whatever I said to make you think

That love's the religion of the weak

This morning we love like weaklings

The worst is over.

Both as a song and as a metaphor for my relationship with UM football recently:

Awake, alone, in a woman's room I hardly know (RR)
I'm not that desperate, oh no, oh god, I am (the week after toledo)
Why do I start what I can't finish? (every game vs top 25)
You're in my web now. (watching the gator bowl)

You could've used Art is Hard as well. Just substitute the word Defense for Art. Haven't listened to Cursive in a loooong time.

tim kasher was at the blind pig not terribly long ago, i believe. wish i could have made it even though i haven't listened to his solo album yet. 2003/04 were all about cursive and the good life.

Dude, photos of GERG should never be posted on MGBlog again. It's like a beautiful former girlfriend who cruelly dumped you -- she can be mentioned (preferably obliquely) but photos should never be shown. Similarly, we have been able to put GERG behind us, finally, with difficulty. So no pictures. Please.

More like a girlfriend you only dated because you were desperate and eventually dumped because you realized she was making your friends laugh at you. And now the memory lives in the "what the Hell was I thinking?" area of your brain. Yet you don't talk all that much smack about her because she never did anything wrong; she just wasn't good enough for you.

I look at those picture pages and I look at Greg Robinson and my inner rage starts to bubble with disgust. Son of a bitch we were an embarrassment on defense. If I never see anything like that again in my lifetime, I will die happy.

I can't help but think of the Willard/Kurtz exchange anytime I see GERG...

“ They told me that you had gone totally insane and that your methods were unsound.”

“ Are my methods unsound?”

“ I don’t see any method at all, sir.”

Let's get this petulant nostalgia behind us. I would be interested in ten years to hear from Coaches Mattison and Hoke about the scene that they found. However, confidence and other intangibles make a big difference, and GERG seems to be on the short end of the stick there.

Let us look forward to better times and brighter fortunes.

No comment on the music, Mr. Misopogen, but far be it for me to rain on your parade. Cheers and good luck!
