Day Of Legal Fun Continues: Frank Clark's Turn

By Brian — July 23rd, 2012 at 3:17 PM — 145 comments

Zero details on this yet but a Frank Dominick Clark shows up on a 14th District Court preliminary exam list with a charge of "Home Invasion" in the second degree:

CR-W-12-0000797 FH
CLARK, FRANK DOMINICK
PRELIMINARY EXAM - JG SHELTON
LEWIS, DOUGLAS E

Count:
001
HOME INVASION - 2ND DEGREE

Slight possibility this might be some other Frank Clark—google did not turn up confirming evidence of his middle name—but there were some rumors going around some weeks back about Clark being in some sort of trouble so the chances this is a mixup are very low.

The charge is serious…

(6) Home invasion in the second degree is a felony punishable by imprisonment for not more than 15 years or a fine of not more than $3,000.00, or both.

…but is probably similar in nature to the Marvin Robinson issue that drew an identical charge and is in the process of turning into a misdemeanor of some variety.

UPDATE: Hoke confirms it's that Frank Clark. Indefinite suspension, wait for outcome, etc. Also this is what he allegedly did:

Frank Clark is accused of stealing a MacBook Air from Stockwell Hall, according to police.

I don't think he should have allegedly done that.

This is precisely why you don't schedule really hard games to open the season. Players do dumbass stuff during the offseason and have a ton of time to do it. You should assume that you'll have to suspend at least one or two starters for the first game, so you might as well schedule a cupcake.

That said, sometimes "borrowing" can become stealing when the person/insitution who loaned it gets PO'd. Once the court case plays out, it turns out that Clark stole the laptop he should be off the team. I get that. But so does every other NCAA football coache. Not every other school is dealing with this.

Ideally, I'm over reacting, Hoke's message will be sent, and soon these arrests will stop, especially when he gets his recruited players on campus. But until it happens, I'm going to be cynical. That's the type of person I am.

Look around NCAA sports and all year long you read about kids being arrested and doing stupid things. Every coach has to deal with this at some point or another. Just look at Va Tech last year before the Sugar Bowl, they sent two of thier kickers home because of legal issues, that played a key role in our victory. Look at MSU, OSU, Auburn, Alabama, ND and so on the fact is all school's have to deal with this. I for one think that Hoke has been very fair with his punishments, compared to other schools.

Coach Hoke has set a stance as a no bullshit coach who is not afraid to sit, suspend, or kick a kid off the team. He can only do so much, he can only have so much face time with each player, he has to trust these kids will make the right choice.

As a man who doesn't forget what it wa like to be a teenager and currently being around many as well, I wouldn't say that is an extreme exaggeration. I don't think he is saying young people drink and drive all the time, he's saying they do stupid things all the time, and that's true. Whether it's sliding over car hoods dukes of hazard style, making small pipe bombs to see if they will blow up mail boxes, drag racing on empty streets etc etc. The fact is kids just don't understand at this age that what they do can have lasting consequences beyond the instant gratification they are getting from them. It's sad, but it's true.

I'm not condoning what they did and think they need to have consequences for their actions, but pretending things like this don't happen all the time (as sad as that is) is burrying your head in the sand
