I've watched Denard Robinson's highlight tapesmany times, and his mechanics look pretty good. And he's lightning.I know he's a freshman and there is going to be a learning curve But does he really have a shot a being the second string QB or is he ging to fall to 3rd string; since Tate is the apparent #1, and Nick knows the system, eventhough he's hot garbage?
D Rob, and Nick Sheridan
Sweet comma in your title!
If you've got the feeling, jump and touch the ceiling.
I think Robinson does have a shot to be the second string QB. Rodriguez has seen what Sheridan can and cannot do. He does not throw or run particularly well. Robinson will be behind the curve when it comes to knowing the offense, but he's a better runner and possibly a better passer right off the bat.
I think the depth chart might be situational. For example, if Forcier (who I assume will be the starter) goes down for a long period, I figure Robinson will fill in for him. But if Forcier goes out late in the game where it's close or if we have a lead, I think Sheridan is probably safer - he can run the offense and make the short throws to maintain a lead, but he probably can't conduct a big comeback.
all he has to do is come in during the summer and really grasp the play book that Sheridan has had almost 2 years to digest and beat him out on the playing field during practice. It's possible but not probable.
due to his experience...and Nick actually is a decent ball handler in this offense, just lacks any kind of good arm downfield...
but eventually when he gains experience, look for D Rob to take over #2 and possibly see game action this year... D Rob has a quick release and sets his feet very nicely and quickly to throw on the run. He has better arm skills than most people would imagine. He could challenge Tate, if Tate struggles later in the year or in 010.
sheridan is terrible and to think denard robinson will not play is just blasphemy.
If Robinson outplays Sheridan in practice, I predict he will be the #2 QB.
If Sheridan outplays Robinson in practice, I predict he will be the #2 QB.
I think that's all anyone knows at this point.
(okay, okay- I could see RR promoting DRob to second string even if Sheridan looks better because "he fits the system" and so forth. Just my epinion)
our epinion is that Sheridan at #2 is good for the team
but D-Rob at #2 would be good for the program.
In our epinion building program is more important than building team, so Rod will do what is best for program.
I would guess that maybe by the Iowa game we may see D-Rob in some real plays. They may be tough this year so maybe not in that game specifically but somewhere midseason I would think we will see him start to come in. Sheridan I think is a good kid but he does not have the stuff to be a determining factor in a game so I hope it is very soon that D Rob takes the #2 spot.
D Rob will win the starting job by the end of the year- you will see
the thing that jumps out on his highlight film is the quick release and the ability that he has to set his feet quickly, turn his body and step in to his throws....
those things, if they are natural...as they seem to be with DRob... can only be enhanced with good coaching. Coach Smith is going to love working with this kid.
Between him and Tate... both are excellent prospects at QB.
