Not like this [Bryan Fuller]

This is still in the not-gospel category but it looks like Desmond Morgan is going to be on the shelf a while.

This morning, the internet started rumoring about a linebacker out injured. This was vaguely confirmed (no name, no timetable) by Sam Webb. Now there are reports that Desmond Morgan has been spotted on campus with a cast on one arm. This confirms a report from our message board that I think is legit; I've followed up with the poster to get more detail.

Someone is hurt, and two different reports that it's Morgan, one eyewitness. I expect that he will be out for a bit; six weeks is the internet timetable, but I wouldn't put a ton of stock in that.

In Morgan's absence expect to see more James Ross. ND's offensive scheme will put Michigan in the nickel for most snaps, all but eliminating the WLB spot that Ross and RJS are occupying at the moment. Ross got some time at ILB against App State when Mattison was displeased with the starters. Michigan is going to need an option there if either starter doesn't live up to offseason hype.

God damn it, why didn't Hoke tell the media what Mason Cole had for breakfast?! This omission is UNACCEPTABLE. But seriously, what does Hoke telling the media about the injury get him? Nothing. What does he get by not telling them? Nothing, except a potential advantage in game planning. Why in the hell would he tell the media about it, given the options?

Wow, you got some nerve. Here I am, working myself into a great pissy mood over the Morgan news, and now you got me laughing my crabby ass off with this. One bad mood shot to hell. Thanks a lot.

Seriously, it sucks about Morgan, both from the team's perspective, and because I hate to see any young man get injured, especially in his senior season. Here's hoping for a full and fast recovery.

I know every team has injuries, but this is the 3rd straight season that our defense has lost a huge piece early in the year.  WTF.

I haven't been posting here all that long despite being a long time reader.

I can now more confidently say that I believe you misinterpreted which post the disclaimer was pointed at (intended tone: tongue in cheek).

I took it as 'don't neg bang me for the joke I just made in this post.'

(also, I wasn't being sarcastic about the thanks.  I did not know that.  Tone and the internet, it's hard to convey properly).

with a broken thumb?  I remember he used his big arm cast as a club but still played well at MLB. I hope Morgan can make a quick recovery! May be he can play with a cast on?

Big loss, but bright side is it's a position of depth. Also, an arm injury is probably also close to best case scenario, since he won't miss conditioning and still be able to participate lots of drills and walkthroughs, so once he's cleared, he'll likely be back to full speed pretty quickly.

There was a play where he got kind of bowled over and it showed him grimacing after.  I thought it was his right shoulder, but I guess not.  Surprised no one has a clip of the video so we can dissect what happened.

This is where the talk of "depth" either talks up or shuts up. As far as LB is concerned, we can either play the whole season without Morgan, or we can't. Ben Gedeon, anyone? In any event, I wish Morgan a swift recovery.

He is a starter, so it will hurt the defense to some degree.  Linebacker depth is pretty good since Gedeon can get on the field and other LBs that are ready.  Mattison will play the best, you can be assured of that.

the existence or extent of the injury and the recovery associated with it?  The stringency of health information privacy law has increased dramatically - not worth jeopardizing for a story, in my opinion.

he's probably Michigan's best run defender, and leaving Bolden/Ryan to make the right run decisions is dicey right? I just think back to the MSU game where Langford's TD at the end was helped by Bolden darting inside too early.

This is a bummer, probably the best pure run stopper on the team and one of my favorite players. But as long as he's back and ready to go by the MSU game I'll be happy, I'd like to have him in the trenches for that war. Until then, the other guys will be able to fill in nicely. Hopefully it's nothing too major.

the entire game with that soft cast on his left arm, I do wonder if he's still wearing it, and thus I wonder if somebody is conflating that with a report of a LB out for six weeks.

Well certainly none of us are happy to see someone get injured, but about as good as losing a starter could be. We've got a mess of LBs who can play well, maybe only CB is deeper.

Get well soon

Not great news but he sounds like he will/could be back for the heart of the schedule.  After ND there are a lot of teams that on paper UM should be favored over by a significant margin.  Better now that in 3 weeks.  If the timetable is correct he misses PSU and then has a bye week to get back for MSU, Indiana, NW, Maryland, OSU.

I think outside of ND, he would have been very valuable against Minnesota who loves to run run run but the other games we should have players who can do his job.  I am not sure how much he would play against what I forsee coming from PSU (a lot of 2 LBs and 5 DBs)
