Cleveland Paper "Carr was forced out as coach"

Ran into this article at rivals board.

http://www.tribtoday.com/page/content.detail/id/525918.html?nav=5024

What a joke. Why would this guy print this. I can only assume that is 100% not true. I wonder why people don't buy papers anymore?

EDIT: I don't think this is actually a newspaper. But it's still dog poo.

This just sounds like someone repeating what they've been hearing about the situation. I don't know how much time he spent following our coaching search, but I'd guess it's 0 minutes. Oh well.

I read about sports to get away from politics. And, no matter how "accurate" a person may be in their views, all they are doing when they post any political opinion is invite a rebuttal. Which in turn invites another and another, ad nauseum.

On a board with people as opinionated as this one is, nobody will really change someone's mind with one post anyway. And if you can't change anyone's mind, what's the point of a political post?

Anything political on the internet is almost guaranteed to turn into a shitstorm. Even something as small as insulting popular political pundits can turn into 100 post clusterfuck of dissertation length arguments and smart ass one line comebacks. No one here wants to see that, and if they do, they'd be better served to go to PWOT or /b/, someplace that won't be ruined by childish namecalling and anonymous attacks on character.

The way it's just tossed in the article, it sounds like the reporter has no clue that there's any difference between this rumor he wants to believe and the actual facts. He probably saw Lloyd and thought, "Oh, it's Lloyd Carr. Michigan dumped him for that snake Rodriguez who Doesn't Understand The Rivalry". Meanwhile, fact-checkers don't exist at the Tribune Chronicle and the error makes it into e-print.

productive, I just sent a little love letter to Coach Carr's friends at the tribtoday:

Gentlemen:

I read with great interest Mr. McLain's August 12 article entitled "Former UM coach Carr attends Browns practice" today. It was interesting to see Mr. Carr has kept up the same demeanor in reply to reporter questions as he did as the University of Michgan head football coach evident in his quote that "You'd have to talk to him about that", in reply to a question about Mr. Edwards. I have no doubt that Mr. McLain accurately quoted Mr. Carr -- I have listened to those very same type of quotes innumerable times following the University of Michigan football program over the last 30 years.

On the other hand, I was disappointed to see that Mr. McLain did not ask Coach Carr to reply to the real news that he broke in this article -- that Mr. Carr was forced out from his position as the UM football coach. Mr. McLain reported:

"Carr was standing with former Michigan and Browns tight end Aaron Shea. Carr was pleased to see former Michigan receiver Braylon Edwards make a catch on a long touchdown play near the end of practice.
Carr was forced out as coach of the Wolverines after the 2007 season. He remains close to the football program and has used the 19 months since he retired to catch up with former players."

During the time that I have fervently followed the Wolverines, I am quite sure that Mr. Carr's forced departure has not previously been disclosed. This is obviously news that the wire services would be keenly interested in, and I encourage your paper and Mr. McLain to take full advantage of this opportnity to further his career. I can tell you from personal experience there are many people in Michigan, and across the country who would be very interested in this piece, but will not come across your outlet.

When did your mother let you out of the basement Mr. Rosenberg?

It's a article from Ohio, that explains the whole anti-Michigan Carr was forced out thing.

I think a lot of people outside of Michigan believe this. My non-M friends in other parts of the country have said similar things to me.

"Everyone gets dumped Gabe. Let me give you some advice: a little coverup on your Adams Apple will make it appear smaller. Which will make you appear less like a transvestite."

by the tribtoday editor, in an email I received today:

"FYI, after looking into this a bit more today and tonight, I decided that a clarification of that note about Carr was in order, so we published one to make it clear to our readers that, officially, Carr's departure from UM was considered a retirement. Mike still stands by his wording, for what it's worth.

Warren has a considerable UM alumni base and even hosts an annual dinner in celebration of The Game. In conversations I've had with locals who follow the Wolverines, the feeling that Carr was at the very least urged to retire by certain UM officials seems to have gained traction among some observers.

Would those UM fans still feel that way if the Wolverines had gone 8-3 in Rodriguez's first year? Perhaps not. It could be that the struggles of 2008 made some view Carr's final months with the program differently. I know I didn't expect the Wolverines to win the Big Ten last season, but I didn't think they'd be 3-8, either.

As I mentioned previously, you have to respect the job Carr did in Ann Arbor. It will only help the Big Ten, and the best rivalry in college football, if that same thing is eventually said about Rodriguez.

* A bit backhanded, I'd say.
