why was he on the field for a large portion of the game? where was rvb or graham?

I'm assuming it's because they wanted Butler's athleticism in there to chase around Siller. I think Graham was a little banged up, and Van Bergen just doesn't match up well against a mobile QB. I agree with the theory, but they should have pulled him once they saw he was getting manhandled.
I didn't realize you only need a week and a half of coaching to play defensive end
I'm pretty sure Butler was a defenisve end in high school. I don't think he forget what it was like, plus he plays against this defense in practice all the time, so he has to be somewhat familiar with the schemes. I don't think it would be that difficult for him to revert back to DE.
Well look at it this way, Jamison and Taylor have been playing on the D-Line for 4 years and neither of them know what they're doing this year. Completely ineffective.
Did you watch the game today? At least in the first half Jamison was dominating Purdue's LT.
